use the topo map all the time with compass and gps. by using the gps, i can locate and mark many things on the map, e.g. beaver dams, scrapes, rubs, trails, tree stand sites, etc. by using a radio along with the map, i can locate where my hunting partners are located also. great tools and i never leave home without them. oh, one time i had left my camera in the woods near a ground stand, i still had the position in my gps, called my brother and gave him the position, he found the camera. i was in virginia and the camera was left in upstate new york, two miles back in the woods, yea, i would say they are great items to learn how to use.

Agree with LeeinVA1. Using the topo map and adding the accuracy of GPS has improved my ability to properly place stands, work the wind and get in and out of my stands efficiently. Marking your known " honey holes" with GPS and comparing what that location looks like on the topo map has proven valuable.
