Need some answers and comments,
Last week I was bear hunting in Minnesota, and had a rare experience happen to me, I sat on the side of a hill and at 197 yards away, the corn field was seperarted by about 15 yards, I saw two bear trot into the corn field, and I took a shot, I missed as I shot at them in the corn. over a period of 20 minutes a total of 11 bear walked out of the corn field into the woods, big bear, cubs...
Have any of you bear hunters have this happen to you? Tell me...
Dr. Mike

The most I have ever heard of prior to this was five in one group, a sow with four cubs several years ago. One of my neighbors saw them and told me about them. My wife had an encounter with four last fall, again a sow with cubs, she has to tell that story herself in order to get the best version of it.
My Grandfather, killed four bears in less time than it will take me to write about it. He didn' t have time to reload and took them all with five shots from that old Winchester pump gun he carried all of the time. This again was a situation with a sow and nearly grown cubs. Before anybody gets their knickers in a twist, at that time in Wisconsin, the 1930' s, Bears were treated as vermin. No season, no limit and probably no license required.
Another neighbor and a friend took two from the same cornfield last fall on consecutive days, both over 300 pounds ( I know the weights because I field dressed and skinned both of them, the smaller of the two was weighed on a certified scale and field dress just at 300#) and there were still more in the area, but nobody ever got a count on what was actually in there.

I talked to some guys from Georgia who where up hunting here last week.
They said that the farm where they were hunting had a lot of bears according to the farmer. He owns a small plane and saw 9 bears in his corn field at one time.
When I went to hand in the premolars from my bear the lady at the Natural Resourses office verified the story and said that the farmer had been there complaining of the bears causing a lot of damage. They' re thick here for sure.
Talked to the guy at the butcher shop and he claims there' s a 500 pounder roamin just North of here. I also found a very large log turned over behind the house with some very large claw marks on it and there was an active hornet nest in the end of the log where some big bear had been trying to dig away at it.

Greetings from Colorado,
Me anti hunter..lol I am a responsible hunter and shooting with my 338 Mag and missing a broadside shot, at 197 yards..well I never missed until that Saturday evening and knew that my one shot and missing was a big concern, my scope had to be out of kilter and it was, I am a man who will not wound and not look for any sign, the area was heavy in folage, so looking for spoor, was the only thing I could do, 11 bear, in a corn field, was indeed rare, but it happened!
What would you have done? keep shooting? and not go check. I hope not! My question was geared for experienced bear hunters, as you get more aquanted with this site, you will find that the people that read and post are hunters that can share experiences and give great advice, so I asked who has ever seen such thing. So far one other who posted, take a look at all my posts, I host a television show and want everyones input, and I use many comments from folks like you in my shows. So good hunting my friend.

Dr Mike, I' ll put my 50 year' s in the wood' s up against your experience anytime, that being said I asked you if I was wrong, you replied that I was,so for now I' ll take you at your word, but be aware theres a ton of people on another forum that have the same question' s that I had, I did look up your post,s on both forum' s and came away with the same suspicion, maybe it' s the way you ask your question' s, there,s an element of inexperience that come,s through, I hope that if you are making videos that your presentation project' s a more polished hunt, I wish you great success and good hunting, I have to leave now to get ready to go bear hunting in northern california, usahunter[:-]

Hi 2-Gun,
Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate your response! Again the questions I post are logged and included in scripts for segments, actualy the tree stand question I posted has been a big help, being that I don' t use climber tree stands, I knew where to take my interview with two hunters who were injuried from falls off their climbers, I guess its my writers heart, questions..I like to see how experienced and inexperienced hunters answer them, and script accordingly.
In taking you on with 50 years experience, probably not, unless you want to come out and hunt elk with me, then we may be pretty equal in the mountains, plus you may have a hunt of a lifetime, and me a new story about your elk hunting abilitys. I am always looking for a new show idea and or book idea.
Good luck on hunting bear, send some pictures I would like to see them if you get bear. and the invitation is open for an elk hunt, e-mail me at [email protected] for more info..if your interested.
