Default Blacktail

Blacktail are abundant here. I've never hunted them but keep hearing/reading that they are considerably "harder" to hunt and get than other deer. Is that true? If so, why?

Hmm...is black tail another name for mule deer? I haven't heard that term, but if so I believe the opposite is true -- I've always found mule deer to be less skittish than white tails.

Black-tail are not the same as mule deer...black tails are usually found on the west coast, with the mulies more inland...... black-tail Odocoileus columbianus, mule deer Odocoileus hemionus different but similar in many ways

I'm convinced deer hunting is not difficult, trophy deer hunting is difficult!

Is one tougher than another? perhaps, though I suspect pressured deer vs. non-pressured tend to be the answer regardless of specie.

correct me if I'm wrong...?

I agree 100%, before we went to 3 point minimum here it was nothing to go out and just shoot the first little spike ya came across and have your meat!! which is what hunting is and should be all about!
Here as the season progresses the deer get more and more skittish and don't give U the opportunity to see them and asses their antlers...... I can assure U that trying to put eyeguards on that 2 point at 500yds can be a pizzer!!!!
The deer have a uncanny knack for standing in front of a sage bush which makes it even harder....LOL!
Yep hunting pressure makes a difference out here!!!

Thank you, I didn't know that. For years I always thought there were two species of deer in N. America (white tail and mulies), but I've since learned about 3 different others!
