I' ll be hunting the Jicarilla Res. in NM October 1-5. I have an any weapon tag, but plan to use my muzzleloader.

Elkhntr04 - so, you' ll be hunting with a bow? Are the elk in the rut at that time of the year up there? I hunted the bow season last year west of Cascade, but it was amazingly hot and I didn' t see a single animal. Just wondering...(No, I' m not going to hunt up there. I' ll be in unit 43.)

Ealid, Yeah I will be hunting with a bow. Yep the elk are in the full swing of the rut by mid-sept. That is to bad your hunt didn' t turn out so well. I on the other had cold weather after opening weekend. We pretty much got into elk everyday. Good luck this year.

CO Unit 45, either-sex tag for 1st season, 10/11- 10/15. They did away with " bull-only" tags in that unit for the limited season. By the way, as a " back-up" rifle, would you all choose a .300 winnie or 7mm mag? Thanks!
