Put out less bait and the bears will come in earlier to get the bait before other bears eat it first.It doesn' t always work but it often does.

another thing you could try is to introduce a new scent. i usually like to wait till i hunted a couple days out of the stand before doing anything new. most guides dont like you messing with there set ups and although a little risky i tried a couple different times with good sucess on stands that were baited with mostly meat scraps. i used some potent sweet concoction.my favorite recipe is artificial vanilla extract mixed with cheap cooking vegetable oil and dollar store syrup. i put this in a spray bottle and cover ever inch of ground and especially pine needle type tree limbs. my thinking is that if the new scent has a smell that is very inviting a big ole boy mite think he-d better get in there before a rival or smaller bear eats up the new treats. if a bear has been hitting a bait for a while he will know when something new is introduced .vanilla is pretty overwelhming and the oil helps to keep the scent from drying out. i decided on the vanilla because most guides use anise oil so i went with another sickning sweet smell. shake well and call your taxidermist in the morning!

Just got back from a bear hunt, very successfull, harvested and filmed many bears for our group. Had the same problem as you. Solution, was to get off the bait. Bears are habital and you can pattern them until the sows come into heat. Look for the impressions where the bear is walking in and figure out which direction it approaches from. Hunt this trail 100 to 200 yards from bait. You will see more bears especially that last hour of light. Look for the scratch or claw tree, that could be like the whitetails stageing area before coming into eat. Let us know how your hunt turns out.

They are obviously waiting for you to leave before they come in. Have a buddy walk to your stand with you. When he leaves the bears should think the coast is clear. Also what time are you rebaiting at? You may want to get it out there earlier. (early bird gets the worm).

I friend of mine, who also likes to use trial timers, used a battery power travel alarm clock to softly turn on a talk radio station after dark. Turned the thing off when he returned to bait the barrel in the AM. After he rang the dinner bell at the barrel everything was quiet again during the day. I' m not really a gadget guy, but he said he did this for a couple nights and the bears never did hit the bait at night again. Then again, I' d of thought the flash off the trail camera would make a large bear head for a new bait station!

You should try using honey. Honey is something that bears will love but also put less bait out

Trophy connections has got the answer, hunt the in-coming trail!!!
Big bears usualy circle the bait just out of sight, if you can find where he is coming in, you just may get a crack at him.
Putting out less bait creates competition, but if someone else has a bait within a mile or so from you, they will usualy spend more time wherever they are eating better, so it does not always work. Heat also has alot to do with movement, if you have hot weather, they tend to be a little slower going. Bumber crops of beechnuts, berries and mountain ash will also cause problems, if they have a window to be able to feed on crops that die out, they will spend more time with the natural foods, because they can eat your bait anytime...especially at night!!!
