Friends who are outfitters in Alberta are starting to report booking cancellations. It' s not looking good. If you' ve got a hunt booked in Alberta, you might want to check with your outfitter what his policy is regarding this business of leaving meat, antlers, cape, etc. behind and whether he' ll give you a credit to a booking next year or not. You may wind up having to give up your deposit if he' s not flexible.
Personally, I can' t see booking a hunting trip and only being able to bring back pictures. Bringing back meat, cape, and the antlers is a significant part of the experience and I' d think that most hunters would think twice about giving these up without a fight.
Your choice is to wait and hope this is resolved or better, contact US Agriculture and make your voices heard.
Either way, I' m not optimistic that this will be lifted for this fall' s hunting season.

I' ve checked with my outfitter and also with a friend of mine in Alberta to see what' s in the wind. The concensus north of the border is that the ban will be lifted before hunting season opens. Of course, the USDA is not run by Canadians either. I' ve got feelers out all over and I' ll pass along anything I hear.

A bit of an update from another site I visit.
Click on the link in the quote and you will find a link to send comments via email. I' m not great at writing letters but if you' d like, you could copy and paste mine. Its better than nothing.
Don' t forget to have the docket # in the subject line and your name and address in the body of your email.
I just got of the phone with Dr. Macarty (with the USDA) here in Michigan. He refered me to the site I listed below. On this site is a place for comments. These comments must be in by July 28th. He said it will take about 30 days for all comments to considered and about 60 days after that for any changes to be made. He did mention that this time line is only what he believes will take place. Wish I could be posting better news but there it is, fair and balanced.. Heres the website for your reading pleasure..

aphis-usda: I' m writing to ask for consideration to be made for those of us with plans to hunt moose and caribou in Canada this fall. These animals, as I understand, are banned from entering the U.S. at this time. I, and I' m sure others, would like to see some sort of allowance made that would permit us to bring back meat from these animals for personal consumption. I don' t feel packaged meat, that is cut wrapped and frozen from wild game, should be included in a ban to prevent BSE from a lone cow in Alberta.
Some of us have worked, saved, and planned for years to go on these hunts. Many of us will loose thousands in deposits for cancelations. Please consider all U.S. citizens before finalizing this ban.
Thank You
Kevin

I' ve heard the same thing DJ. But since I' m taking the first legal bull I see, chances are I' d rather have the 450 lbs. of groceries over anything under 50 inches.[:-]

Hey Kip, how ya been? Thats the problem tho, all the talk about the ban being lifted are coming from that side of the border.
Guys and Gals: Please take a minute to send an email and let them know, we would like our meat. Mad Cow has not crossed species into moose and bou. It was one cow in, in one providence. The rest of the herd it came from were killed and all tested negative.
