My friends and I are heading to Colorado this year to do some elk hunting. We have gained access to some prime private land and are getting our things together. I am the only one who has gone elk hunting before - I used a guide service. This trip will be just the four of us - no guide.
While we have all the equipment for the camp, I was wondering what is recommended for the actual hunt - such as calls, scents, etc.....
We will be hunting the third week of October.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't worry about scents. Not in late Oct.. Just watch your scent! Cow calls can do the trick late season. I wouldn't even worry about a bugle...

Like they say in real estate...its all about location. By third season any elk that have been shot at will not respond favorably to calls. Best to get as much information as you can about the land, access and elk movement in the area.

hope it is a good location cause that is what it is about when elk hunting especially colorado, im with the other guys do worry about being aggressive with calls, or scents. Use the wind. If it is good private land you'll have a ball. good luck
