What is your favorite big game caliber? You can choose multiple guns (if I missed any, feel free to let me know and I can add them)
Let us know your success with that caliber, and why you enjoy using it so much.

I had to go with the .243 and the 30-06. Both great, all around guns. The .243 is a great gun that you can use on caribou down to fox, and the 30-06 is great for any north american big game, with probably the exception of brown bears.

I have an Interarms 30-06 that used to belong to my grandpa that I use for elk. For deer, I use my Remington .243 which used to belong to my grandma. Both are great guns with alot of sentimental value. I also have an old Smith & Wesson 12-gauge that is great for deer when it' s real brushy, which describes alot of the areas around here. It' s old, worn, with lots of scars, but it' s the first gun I ever had of my own and I love it!

I have no idea how many deer I' ve killed. Some where around 200 I would guess.
I can' t tell you if I' ve killed more with a .243, 30-06, or shotgun. About the same with each I' d guess.
Since I' ve moved to suberbia, the shotgun is gaining ground quick.
The last one' s I got with a .243 and 30-06 are hanging on the wall over my shoulder as I type this.
Btw that was 2yrs ago with the .243, and 3yrs with the 30-06.

I' ve been hunting for years with my 7mm Rem. Mag and have never had any problems. I' ve have taken deer down from 20 ft to 400 yards. I just purchased another rifle with the same caliber so I guess you know what' s my favorite caliber.

The 270 win
I have used a 270win. for most of my professional hunting career and I found for our red deer its unsurpassed for stopping power and pushing out to ranges of 350 yards. I' ve shot approx 5000 red deer with 270' s and have shot out:
2 sauer 200' s
1 mannlicher
2 parker - hales
and am currently using a sako 75 and an a-bolt
I' ve shot 5 driven boar with my 270' s in Germany using norma 150 grain ammo andI normally use norma 130 grain softpoints.
I also have a 22-250 and a 243.

My vote: Something " plenty big/powerful for the " big game" at hand (according to whatever that " big game" might be)!
Question might be what " big game" do you like to hunt and oh by the way which caliber do you use when you pursue " it" ?
How " provincial" is our definition of " big game" for this poll going to be? Deer in the lower 48? If so, then is a 22-250 is even legal in most states?
Looks like the largest (truly) big game and the continent where it all plays out (Africa) and the BGR' s and DGR' s that go with it got " left off of the map."
Specifically, what' s your favorite caliber for the " non-bambi" big game in this scenario?

Note: PH did more than survive. Good Client - didn' t freeze up and wasn' t undergunned. PH was out guiding again in about 2 weeks.
All things are relative, I wonder if we had some of that " kind" of " big game" here in the lower 48 what it would do for caliber selection among our populance?
Never Go Undergunned,
