I wasn't even paying attention when he said he was bow hunting. Ouch. That's going to be VERY tough. I definitely agree with the decision to go regardless though. The money on the tags is probably money thrown away, but it should still be a good experience.

Ah heck, I say go for it! But, plan on it being more of a backpacking/camping trip than an actual hunt. Take your rifles in case you get lucky, but at this point, that's really what you're counting on - pure, blind luck. However, you'll get to familiarize yourself with the area, with elk country, and know what to expect later when you return better prepared.
