To get both animals, you will need a gun with some "umpth" but also a flat shooting gun. Also, as stated, you don't need to get a truly big "knock you down with the recoil"gun for the game you are after. Calibers I would choose in this order:

7mm rem mag
300 win mag
30-06

Also, I would suggest a bolt action. Don't want a semi-automatic or a single shot if you happen to have a grizzly charge!
I agree with everything except on the Grizzly charge. I'll take my .300 WSM bolt action with me if I go to hunt big bear some day but I will also have a good buddy with either a semi-auto or shotgun.

1. 7mm rem mag all the way
2. .325 wsm
3. .308

if you guys have the 7mm, you are good to go, after that one, just pick guns that they are comfortable shooting, the 325 hasvery nice trajectory and downrange power, and the 308 comes in justabout every kind of gun for the guy that likes the lever, semi, single, or bolt

.30-06 Springfield
.308 Winchester
7mm Remington Magnum
How? all 3 of these cartridges basically offer the same thing, with the 7mm mag and 30-06 offering almost equal ballistics, and the .308 not too far behind.

Do they all not perform?
I was almost certain any ofthem threewould be enough medicine.
How many guns can one man carry in the mountain?

30-06
375
50 BMG

Better?

Substitute the 30-06 with the .300 Win Mag, and the 50 BMG, with the .416 Rem Mag, and you'll have a keeper.

Now we can't go exchanging the .30 of 1906.
That would be like asking me to leave my Bowie at home.

I use an '06 and a 7mag backup.
Ithrowed the .308 in there in case one of the shooters wanted a short action.

Yeeah, those short action folks are hard to please, sometimes.
