There were some questions tossed arround to some un-named wolf experts here in wi.It gave me a little insight as to where we are in getting a wolf seasion in my lifetime.Id say 10 yrs.till wolf seasion. The usda will be able to shoot trouble wolves in the spring though.
But lets get the term wolf correct.Thats 100% wolf. The experts tell me that a wolf wont go into the city. And i cant own a wolf as a pet.Hes gotta have some dog in him.You may not be able to tell without a dna test.so the only way to tell on the trail,is by the way he acts. What it came down to was pretty much anything below hwy 64 must be a mix.And realy isnt a wolf at all. Now,The only one who can shoot a dog on your fields is a game warden,by law anyway. But the way im understanding it,most of what we have arround here in central WI. is 80 pound wolf hybreds, and there not endangered or threatened.Im not saying open seasion,Imjust giving you some food for thaught.

For anyone who has ever seen an adultTimber (Gray) Wolf up close, within 1/4 mile, there is no mistaking it for a dog or vice versa. The bodies are so much bigger, body longer, longer legs, bigger feet, shoulders and neck that show they have the strength to take down a deer and any number of other animals.
I don't think people should be allowed breed dogs with wolves for "hybrids" either. This is just opening a whole nother pandora's box of problems of what do you do if these animals get loose. What do you do with them when people have them and then realize they aren't really a dog and can't (shouldn't) release them into the wild. It's a bad situation made worse by people with fuzzy-headed thinking that they think they can "be part of the wild" by having something that's part wild and part dog!??? As General McAuliffe once said, "Nuts!"

So what you're saying may be true in WI but not in the western states so could you post your source?
Also with the hybrid thing: yesa CO can kill a dog that is harrassing livestock or wildlife, it doesn't matter whether it's a hybrid or a dog, or a wolf for that matter. They are considered "dogs at large" in most states and can be shot.

Ill do a little more digging and come up with a postable source.Right now all i have is what i was told after a meeting.Im not so sure the usda isnt shooting them because of policy or manpower.Im told they can start shooting trouble animals in the spring.Right now the only way to get one shot is to get attacked.
As far as dogs go,get on dnr.wi.gov -The 2006 deer hunting regs on page13 will explain the dog thing.Naturally, someone would have to complain that you shot there dog,and ferral dogs have no owners.
