Default big game muzzleloader load

I currently shoot a 250 gr. Hornady SST with 110 gr. of pyrodex. would this be adequate for moose/elk/grizzly or should i up weight of the bullet to 300 brains or so and maybe increase the charge depending on the accuracy i get?

I would use a 300 gr. Hard Cast LBT Style bullet, Barnes X, Nosler Patition, Swift A-Frame. Good luck.

You said grizzly i'd be looking to a 300 gr barnes. I have shot a bull moose with 120 RS/300XTP & 460 conicaland received full pentration, the shot wereunder 50yards through the ribs. If you remove the grizzly 250 gr barnesshould work well for elk and moose. 300 SST or 300 bonded SW should also work but it wouldn't be my first choice for a shoulder shot.

You may try posting in the black powder forum on this site. Add what ML your shooting as well.

I'm shooting a Rem. 700 SSML, remington doesn't make them anymore but they are really nice guns

I have owned 3 and still owna synthetic 700MLSversion. Love the gun, real shooter, dependable. The only down fall is the bolt design and if you run the remington 209(is lacking IMHO). Anyway the 700 MLS was used to take 1 of the moose and black bear with 300xtp/120RS. On the black bear I broke both shoulder and he was DRT. I use ffg T7 in mine with the 250 SST for deer. I have a cabelas 209 kit installed. While the 250sst has proved fine for deer I have seen a few jacket seperations when bone is the main contact at close range. My partner a few years nailed a buck at a distance better measured in feet on a 1/4 toward. The bullet busted the shoulder and got the one lung, we found was a jacket at the entrance wound and some frags. Like I mentioned I'd opt for something in 300gr and/or barnes.
