ORIGINAL: skeeter 7MM

If your not a handloader then I think your original thought of a .308 win is very sound.

Good luck
What's wrong with the 7mm-08 factory loads?Why wouldn't a 7mm-08 work if you didn't handload them?

By the way, I'm asking this as a question, not as an insult.
I am researching on the 7mm-08 alot now, because I have a particular interest in it. I guess I could learn to handload if I got a 7mm-08, I suppose it isn't too hard.

I seen a few say get her a 300 win mag but buy reduced recoil loads. What would be the point of having the magnum then? My vote goes for the 308 then if she wants to move up the recoil chain that's her choice. Some that start out with too much recoil never get over the flinch.

It depends on a lot of factors, including overall cost you're willing to spend. But I like the .308 You can shoot a .308 all day, and shooting a long shot isn't a problem, as long as you're confident and comfortable with the gun setup. A couple years ago, I had to make the same decision as you. I chose the .308 for my wife, and am glad I did that. Like was said eariler, the last thing you want to do is start her off on something with too much recoil, and develop a flinch. IMO.. go for the .308

Thanks for all your input. I decided that the .308 will be the choice. The Stevens model 200 should fit the bill with my budget so will the ammo. Been pricing a few. From what I have read about them they are a good rifle and lightweight.

The newer Remingtons come from the factory with a R3 (sims) recoil pad. My 7mm Rem Mag kicks a VERY notciable amount less then my &60 in a .308. Trust me, i was worried about the recoil and after the first squeeze, I was very relieved and acually laughing because i felt very little recoil. I would honestly say it kicks bout the same as or less the a 243. No BS. And that was with a 140gr TSX pused by 67gr of RL22! Also, if you have a muzzle break, the recoil is almost not exsistant. Just ALOT of noise. Thats my suggestion. Get her the 300 or a 7 mag and you will not be disapointed.

4 pages of recommendation and as far as I can tell, no one ascertained what the lady's shooting experience to date has been.
All that was broached was the selection of a gift. Amazing.

She's about 130lbs and has been shooting a pump 20ga. with 3" turkey loads without a recoil pad. She has shot a 45-70 trapdoor with cowboy loads that didn't kick much. She doesn't like guns that are to heavy for her to hold up. Once again thanks for the input.
