Default black hills south dakota

My dad and I are looking into hunting the black hills nat. forest in south dakota for deer. It would be a do it yourself hunt. I was wondering what the drawing odds were for drawing a deer tag in the south dakota black hills region? Is there a good success rate for killing a deer? What is a good part of the forest to hunt? we dont care too much if we get whitetails or muleys, we just want to get away from the midwest for a while. thank you

SD has really cut back on the amount of tags they offer to nonresidents in the past years. I would recommend applying and building PP's so you can draw in the future. I think you can draw a tag within 2 years if you apply this year, if it's not too late. The Black Hills are beautiful and pretty easy to hunt. I have taken both whitetails and mulies there in the past. With the new tag regulations I have definitely noticied an inprovement in the deer herd and the size of the bucks. Good luck.

There is a deadline of July 28 I believe for the Black Hills deer.

Contact SD Game Fish and Parks. They have a webb site. It gives all the deadlines and info. Deer Population is pretty high in the Black Hills. It is mostly Whitetail. I like the Deerfield, Moon and Custer area. You may see some fine elk as well.

I think bow tags are easy to get for the Black Hills.

bow tags for SD is easy, just send in and you get the tag. you could get a black hills tag or the entire state tag. and as far as seeing some deer, well you should see 50-100 deer a day. some of the fields will have 100 deer on just one field.
sorry to here you didn't get your moose tag car. i hope you get wy. tags. good luck

Thanks for the replies. Not sure if my dad can get off work for a bow hunt. He can get off anytime in november and we are thinking about hunting region a wyoming since there are better odds to draw a tag, even though we would be in a leftover draw

24/7 the south dakota bow hunt opens oct.1and goes through dec. 31 for bucks, the jan1-31 for does. if you want to hunt south dakota. as far as a region A in wyoming, thats the area i live in. there is a very good chance that there will be left over tags. and you could even buy a non-resident doe pronghorn tag OTC for $29.00 for the same area. good luck to ya
