Na, it's not too much gun. 300WM is good caribou medicine, but any of the calibers you mentioned would work fine. Caribou are typically the size of a large bodied whitetail or mule deer and some subspecies are evenlarger, but they're pretty slightly built. What I mean is their bone structure is like a marathon runner. They're not built for strength they're built for long endurance. Your average whitetail deer probably has more bone structure than even a large bull caribou. That said your 300 won't be overkill. That's what I use for them just because it's my personal, all-around Alaska caliber. I wouldn't hesitate to hunt them with a .243 and one of my hunting partners regularly does just that. Good luck on your hunt, and get one of those giant bez tined Quebec bulls.

I've shot them in Quebec with everything from a 308 to a 338. 300 is a perfect gun. Just drop down in your load and resight the gun. You'll be a winner all the way around. Save a few for me!

The 300 win mag is definately not too much gun. And if this happens to be what you feel is your best shooting gun, (that is the gun that you should take) Your 270 and 30-06 will kill them also. But it is your confidence in your 300 win mag that should lead you to bringing this gun. I have seen quite a few caribou taken with .308's...so your 300 win mag is plenty gun for your hunt.

Caribou are not hard to kill, no harder than most deer, and much easier to track -- usually!
Any of the calibers you mentioned will work, the only benefit to the larger rifle is more range, because you may have to take a long shot at a caribou. If you shoot the .300 well, have at it.

Take the gun you shoot the best, I took my first 2 caribou with a 98 Mauser based .244 rem or 6mm if you prefer that I built, bang and down they went. You would think that an animal that lives in that type habitat would be hard to kill, but they truly just drop, nothing like whitetails.
