30-06 the everything cartridge...
Would the 30-06 be good for everthing by that I mean moose, bear, deer, elk, goat, sheep, pronghorn, caribou and mountain lion? With an arrange of 120 gr. to 190gr bullets? thanks I know that half the animals listed are not in ontario but if I was every to go on trips.

In North America, it would either be that 30-06 or a 300 WindBag/WSM. If I was going after the bigger bears though, I'd opt for a little more power and pick the 300's. But the '06 will get it done for sure without being overkill on any of the lighter stuff.
For a worldwide do it all gun, the 375 H&H is THE everything cartridge.

There is an article in Rifleman magazine on this very topic and the autor of the article has used his 30.06 on just about everything that you listed. If you are a good shot with your .06, there is nothing that the bullet is not capable of. Basically if you are up to the task, the rifle is too. Sure, there are other guns that will almost certainly be better at taking a given animal, but who has the $$$ to buy all of these different guns just for hunting a different animal? Also, who has the time to be able to get good with all of those different guns? Not me, but I do have time to get good with one gun, get to know it and know what needs to be done in different situations to get the most out of it. The 30.06 is regarded by most as the most versitile gun around.

If those bears your referring to aren't grizzlies, your '06 will take care of any business you wish to do with rest of the game animals listed. Not perfect for all, but adequate, nonetheless. And...perfect more often then not.

RE: 30-06 the everything cartridge...
I think it is one of the best choices for a "nearly everything" rifle cartridge. But the smaller stuff (smaller than little deer and big coyotes) and the bigger stuff (bigger than medium/small elk) are best left to other cartridges. I'm not saying that the 30/06 shouldn't be used for the smaller and bigger stuff....but its certainly not the best choice in the extremes of smaller and larger.
I constantly mull over what it would take to have the fewest but most versatile # of rifles in my cabinet. The 30/06 would be amoung them that is for sure. I have the smaller stuff covered with my .243 and my 6.5's, and the middle to larger medium stuff is covered with my 30/06 and my 8mm/06, ... but I seriously lack the punch of larger calibers and more powerful cartridges in my cabinets. That is why I keep trying to narrow my choices for at least one more cartridge....perhaps a .375 H&H, perhaps a 9.3 X 74R ........choices choices choices
