What state are you hunting in this year? What kind of experience do you have?

This will be roughly my 12th year chasing birds, and I've called in and killed a couple.......;). I should be good for at least one bird this year for the team. I'll be hunting Bradford County, PA and Otsego County, NY this year.

A few pics of the birds I killed last year, as well as some of the birds I called in for others last year.

Also, does anyone have good names for the team? If so, share your thoughts!!

RE: Team 14 Thread

RIStrutStopper checking in! I'll be hunting in RI and CT, and possibly MA. I should be good for a bird or two this season if hunting is anything like it has been the last few years. I've been thinking about a team name and I kind of like one of the ones I thought of last year that we didn't go with. What do you think about "Wattle Whackers?" Anyway, we're gonna kick some tail feathers this year!

RE: Team 14 Thread

I'm Blake, I'll be huntin 3 different tracts of my family owned private land in Alabama. We have two tracts that are about 300 acres a piece, and one that's about 60. I'm the only one that hunts these 3 pieces of property so I have a lot of opportunities. I killed two nice birds last year, should be good for at least two this year, maybe more. Hopefully I can max out with 5 legal birds. By the way, I'm SOUTHERNSTRUT56 not souternstrut like they posted on the teams. My season comes in March 15th and goes til April 30th. I'll be in the woods every chance I get, but I'm in engineering school at Auburn University so I'm rather busy most of the time. I'm very serious when it comes to turkey hunting, so you can count on me to get it done. I will contribute. Good luck to all and I'll check in again shortly.

I'm gonna throw a few possible team names out thereand hopefully some others will suggest some more, then we'll all decide on one. We already got Wattle Whackers, that'll be number one. Here's acouple: Smokin' Feathers?..... Braggin' Beards? Hey RI, were you on the Tominators last year???

MJR10 checking in here...I am from and will be hunting in Steuben County New York. I have been hunting for about 5 years, and have 5 birds under my belt. I have learned a ton in teh last two years and have tagged out both years, which is 2 birds a year here.
This year will be different for me. I just bought a piece of property that is 140 acres and it will be my first time turkey hutning it. Should be fun to learn how to chase the birds on a new chunk of land. The land is 5 minutes from work so I plan to hunt almost every morning before work. Can't get'em if you aren't out there. I'll try to come up with some team names today and post them later...

Here is a picture of one bird from last year..

Yea, i was on the Tominators, #1!!! Got my poster hangin in my office ;) I brought up the rear with a lil jake, but every point counts. I think if someone else scored with a jake the year before that, I prolly would have been on the winning team 2 years runnin. That doesn't matter, cuz we'll probably take it this year! One more name suggestion for a nameif you guys think we can stand the smack talk we'll get from it. How about the Spurminators? Our slogan can be something like "Making this mating season his last"...

SouthernStrut56 03-04-2008 07:05 AM

RE: Team 14 Thread

Haha I like where you're going with the slogan, but Spurminators sounds too .........is explicit the word? :D:D:Dhaha, I started crackin up when I saw that. Tominators dominated last year, we can do it again! When I read your slogan I thought of this name, "Final Strut". We'll narrow it down to 3 names once we get a few more, then choose an official name forthis year'swinning team. I'm excited, I really think we're gonna take it again!
I went down to my place this past weekend and the sign was amazing. I have never in my 7 years of turkey hunting seen as much turkey scat as I did in this one food plot. The plot's about 2 or 3 acres and I would say about 75% of it had a turkey turd in every square foot. Chased 12 hens out too. I'm goin this weekend to have a listen early one morning, see how many lovesick toms I can hear. I'm still on a quest to take out the legendary ghost gobbler at my place, haha, seriously I've seen him every year for the past 4 years and he ALWAYS spooks no matter what I do. The first time I saw him he had about a 10 inch beard. Last year his beard wasvery close to draggin the ground, so hopefully hes still around and I can outsmart him this year. Maybe he's got multiple beards!!!

I think I was on the tominators last year too? I don't remember the team name, but I remember that our team won.

RE: Team 14 Thread

Hey guys, looks like we have a great team. I will be hunting Illinois and Missouri this year, and I hope to make Ohio, and possibly Nebraska as well, but financial issues may put that on hold. I hunt both private and public ground.

I have been hunting turkeys for about thirteen seasons. Killed my first bird (a jake) in 98, and since that time I have bagged 14 toms and 1 jake, as well as 29 birds called to the gun for my friends and family, with only 5 jakes taken total since 98.

I am attempting to take one with the bow this year, so I may be delayed on my bird, but if worse comes to worse, I will bring out the trusty 870 in the name of the team.

later,

CS

Who wants to step up and assume the role of team captain of this year's winning team? I would love to BUT I will definitely be too busy to handle all the info. Who wants it?

Watch out, the Bullshooter is in the house. Looks like we have some turkey killers here. I have been chasing them since 1976 and hope to get 30 more years. Only able to hunt 3 states this year due to a NM elk hunt in the fall. MO, Pa and Oh. Glad to be here and looking forward to some fun.

Here is some of my résumé.

Dang mister, you got my respect. Sure glad we're teammates!!!! That's what Iwanna have in about 20 years. I already got my spur necklace started, but that one puts mine to shame for sure. When does your season start???

RE: Team 14 Thread

Thought I'd show yall my birds from last year. Here's number one from last year. Opening day in the rain, strutted right to the hens in the field in front of me. I love hunting in rain showers bc 99% of the time, the birds at my place head to the food plots. I built some turkey blinds under my shootin houses so it keeps me dry. It's just a matter of knowing which plot to hunt. Most of the time rain can bring success.

Firelt you gotta watch out Germ will be telling ya about some love triangle for turkeys. He sees naked people in the woods too... :D:D:DGerm is a good guy he was the captain of Team 43 Chaos in the Bowhunting contest...

RE: Team 14 Thread

Although I laughed for 10 minutes of "spurminators", I like "Final Strut".

It also made me think of "Huntin' The Strut" or "The Strut Stops Here"

Germ 03-05-2008 07:14 AM

RE: Team 14 Thread

bullshooter is a turkey maniac wow!!!!!f

That is impressive

firelt72 03-05-2008 07:21 AM

RE: Team 14 Thread

Well Germ since I am not a captain and only a Lt, I will have to decline. I don't mind who runs the show. I would like to re-cant my more experieneced than rookie comment, I have 4 seaons and I am a rookie after listening to all ofthe stories and seeing the spurs and birds....I still have new private land I just got this year in the Hoosier state (60 acre farm. 30 and 40 acres as of yesterday and one of my fire buddies just bough land next to the HNF..so I am in good shape.)
Name wise I like Final Strutt... Spurminators that works too.

Arrowmaster Germ may see naked folks out in the woods, but if he can blast us a turkey, I really don't care how he calls them in :)

This was my first bird..wow what a hunt at Kroger...

My first bird last season...

SouthernStrut56 03-05-2008 08:59 PM

RE: Team 14 Thread

Well we can just let the administrators pick a cap'n for us. If Bullshooter has enough time I'd nominate him, looks like he's got plenty of experience. In the meanwhile, let's try to decide on a team name. If you have an opinion on the team name, reply with your choice. We'll choose between these.
1. Wattle Whackers
2. Spurminators
3. Final Strut

Spurminators would carry on the spirit of theTOMinators, me and RI's #1 team from last year, but we need to all agree on a name for THIS YEAR's winning team. I like em all. Yall voice your opinion and we'll decide when we have a definite favorite. While we wait, let's talk turkey. What are your expectations for the season???

RE: Team 14 Thread

Bullshooter sounds good to me for a captain, sound okay to you Bull? Rick, I do believe you were on our team last year too. Firelt, that firstpic is funny. I told my boss after getting skunked 4 or 5 years ago that if I ever get skunked again, I'd get me a butterball from stop and shop, pose with it wearing my camo, and postthe picup at the barber shop. Luckily, I haven't had to follow thru with that yet and I DON'T intend to have to this year either! The more I see the team name Spurminators, the funnier I think it is. Been thinking of Wattle Whackers since last year, I think thats a good name, but Spurminators is just plain funny!

Lol, c'mon huntnma, all it means is we kill those birds with spurs. Now, anything else you read into it is just plain not right ;) Well ok,final Strut is probably a little more PC. Besides, you probably wouldn't want to see what kind of avatar I'd come up with for the Spurminators :D
