Well I was able to get to my farm in SC today. I didn't see as much sign as I was hoping for. It was hard to pick out any turkey tracks in the field b/c of all the deer tracks!! I did find some areas that looked to have been scratched though. I also got my new choke tube for my shotgun today in the mail...of course they sent the wrong freakin one! I called them and they are going to send out the right choke tomorrow. Why is that when you order something it takes two weeks to get here but if they send the wrong thing they can get it in the mail the next day!??!!? Oh well, that's life!!

RE: Team 14 Thread

Haha yeah neither me or my ugly bird are easy on the eyes! I took a buddy hunting at my place last Tuesday and he was able to MISS two dad gum birds at thirty yards. He has yet to kill one and it's killing him!I spotted a hen in a food plot and belly crawled us into position behind some tall grass. I lifted my head up and saw the top of a fan, we had a strutter! I didnt wanna stick my head up too far so I was unaware that there were TWO gobblers in the field competing for that hen's heart. After laying on our belly for 15 minutes or so the hen walked by in the clear at about 20 yards, followed by the two gobblers. He had his gun up and I just knew he was gonna get his first bird. But when two longbeards walked by, I was so mad that I didnt have my gun up when he shot. He missed the first one, and before I could get my gun up to shoot he pumped another shell in and missed the second one.........to say the least, I was upset for him, but it was one of the most fun hunts I've ever been on. Getting within 30 yards of 3 turkeys in a field with only a strip of tall grass for cover, what a RUSH!

RE: Team 14 Thread

Turns out that cool little story about creepin up on those two toms and my buddy missing BOTH of em has ruined my hunting. I've been back 4 or 5 times since then and have had NO luck hearing or seeing any birds. Pretty sure I won't see those two longbeards again this year, makes me sick. It seems like there oughta be plenty more birds to gobble for me though. It's 300 acres of riverbottom farmlandwith hardwood hollows andridges galore, I know there's more than 3 gobblers in there. I dont have any time to hunt during the week this year b/c of dadgum school, so it makes me wonder if other people are poaching....? Hasn't been a great season at all, but hopefully it will change SOON! I'm going to south alabama with a buddy to his family peanut farm this weekend, and next weekend my landlord, who has already killed his limit of 5 this year, is takin me to some of his property. But let me just say, CONGRATS to everybodywho is having a great season! You guys, AND GALS, keep it up and keep having fun!

Just got back from my evening run (in the rain to boot). I was tooling along when a bird cut loose about 100 yds from the road I was on. I stopped and gave a listen. He must have gobbled 50 times in 10 min. They are getting cranked up here in PA.

RE: Team 14 Thread

Well guys, figured I would check in.I've been doing some scouting and also setup a new turkey gun for myself, so I'm prepared at this point very well I think.

I ended up buying a new 870 SPS Turkey with the23" barrel and Shurshot stock on it, fully dipped in Mossy Oak Obsession. The gun issweet. I've also mounted a 2-7x33 Mueller Multi-Shot on it with the illuminatedcircle dot reticle. If I can get anything within 50 yards this thing should kill one dead as a box of hammers........[8D]. I'm still playing with load and choke combos but should be done with that by this weekend. So far I've shot Wingmaster 3.5" HD out of it, 3.5" Winchester Supreme #5's, 3" Winchester ER HD #6's, and a few others out of a variety of chokes. I also have anIndian Creek .665 coming for it and some 3.5" 2.25oz #6 Hevi 13 loads that I think are going to be just the ticket for this thing. I've read of a few people with this exact choke/load/gun setup that were putting 200+ pellets into a 10" circle at 40 yards. ;)

Last weekend I went to the property I hunt here in NY before first light on Saturday and heard 3 birds in the same roosting spots we killed 2 of them out of last year. Looks like we should be able to get on them there again this year.

Also I put up the camera at my place in PA back in March with a small pile of corn just to draw them in enough to take inventory with the camera. The corn is gone now but I'm still getting pics as of earlier this week.

Looks like I'll have maybe 9 hunts this year to try and fill 3 tags, and with the number of birds I'm seeing I don't think it will be a problem to put at least one on the board for the team.

Below are a few of the better pics from my camera setup in PA for you to enjoy!

Great pictures! Season opened today here in NC. I am not going to be able to get in the woods until Monday. I'm heading out tomorrow evening to hopefully roost a couple birds for the Monday morning hunt. I haven't been able to get on here or out there as much as I would like. I'm moving from NC to SC in less than 2 weeks so things are a little crazy around the house. I'll let ya'll know how it goes Monday. Good luck everyone!

Got my second one today, finally. About the same size as the last one, 9 inch beard and inch spurs, bout 18 lbs. Had three big uns gobbling their ugly heads off from about 9:00 til 11:00, they circled me and snuck in to my right, I swung and popped one. Fun fun day in the woods. Pictures coming soon. NICE pics Rick!!!

RE: Official Team 14 Final Strut Thread

Finally got number 2 today!!! I got down there at 9:30, saw the same ol gobbler struttin on the road where I killed the first one, so I rushed to get set up. I sat there for about 20 minutes before it turned into an all outgobblefest between 3 or 4 different toms. I answered back with a little yelp, which I continued doing every 15 minutes or so. They gobbled over and over, cutting each other off and going crazy when crows flew over. Around 10:30 they all shut up, and I got a little worried. About 20 minutes later I saw em out of the corner of my eye, 3 of em walkin down the road from right to left......I was facing the opposite direction, they circled me. I waited for the lead gobbler to walk behind a tree, then swung and put the hurt on him. Anyways, here he is. My second bird, finally!

Hey guys/gals/teammates, I experienced one of the most incredible days of turkey hunting in a long time yesterday. Well it finally happened. I got my first bird yesterday! Yeah, he's a jake and won't do a lot for our team score but I'm STOKED that I got him. He gobbled for over 2 hours before the shotgun got the last word. He weighed 14 lbs. Hopefully I'll be able to get a long beard before the season is out but we'll see. That was one of the most memorble, incredible hunts I've ever been on in my entire life!! I'm hooked!!!

Great hunt csgriz, I read your story before, didn't realize you were on my team! NC, WAY TO GO! Jake or not, Congrats on your first! I've still got 2 weeks to go before I can hit the woods. Just started scouting a little, found some potential areas in RI. I just scored a 123 acre piece of property in CT, nobody else turkey hunts there. The landowner said a neighbor moved in last year and shoots some, but he is NOT supposed to be hunting on this property. I got the impression that no permission might not stop this guy tho, so we'll see how that goes. I'm gonna go check out the property on Friday. Funny thing, the guy didn't want me to deer hunt there because of lack of access and he has a couple buddys that hunt there. He said there is no shortage of deer tho. He says he limits who can hunt there and turns down most people that ask. I told him I bowhunt only in CT, and won't be interested in gun hunting, he said well, thats a different story! He said only one other guy bowhunts there, and he hasn't been ina while. Score 2 for me! The other guy who bowhunts there and the landowner are like family....of sorts. The other bowhunter's daughter bred her dog and I have one of the puppies. The landowner has my dog's sister, lol.
