KSBOHUNTR 09-24-2012 07:29 AM

ksbohuntr checking in. Names Derek. Just been waiting to see if I make a team since I got signed in late. I hunt SE Kansas and have spotted a couple good bucks. It's been a while since I have entered this contest. It just slips my mind each year and then it's to late when I finally remember. I think I posted 120" last time in, so hopefully I can help the team out again. Good luck to you all.

Mibowhunter91 09-24-2012 07:56 AM

Glad to have ya on the team.when does ur season start

KSBOHUNTR 09-24-2012 08:55 AM

Opened last Monday the 17th. I like to get started mid October. My 10 year old boy shot his first deer with rifle (buck 3 pts.) the 15th during youth season. First deer to show was a good looking buck but he wouldn't come to the field that earlier yet (5:20 p.m.) and thankfully stayed in there, other wise i might have been looking at posting pictures with a 3 pt later on while my boy shows off pictures with the big boy, haha.

KSBOHUNTR 09-24-2012 08:59 AM

I have read all the posts just to get caught up and I see we still need a team name. I'll toss out some even if they are bad just to get things moving here. Like them or hate them but maybe it will give a jump start. I have no idea if these have ever been used in past seasons.

I like backstrap brigade and center punch. Congratulations to your son with his first buck!!

sanders3469 09-24-2012 12:35 PM

I like backstrap brigade and Intentional Grounding

Mibowhunter91 09-24-2012 01:07 PM

That ones a good one too

SlowDraw 09-24-2012 04:17 PM

Congrats on the doe Matt, and welcome new members. Finally made it out this morning and saw 5 does. Only a really small one gave me a shot, so I passed. It was a cool calm morning and great to get out in the woods. I like Intentional Grounding and Center Punch. Hope everyone has an enjoyable season, and we all get to rack up some points.

Mibowhunter91 09-24-2012 04:24 PM

Thanks I got really worried when the rain started tho. I saw we give it another day or to and.take a vote on a team name.

sanders3469 09-24-2012 06:49 PM

yea that sounds good to me but im sure it will be backstrap brigade

Canuck_2 09-24-2012 08:10 PM

First, the important stuff. I think 'Intentional Grounding' is pretty darn clever and that one gets my vote.

Oh ya, I got this guy this evening. Haven't scored him yet since I'm pooped but I suspect he'll be less than 100. So I haven't entered him officially yet either. It was a 17 yard shot and the arrow slipped right through his heart.

Mibowhunter91 09-25-2012 05:42 AM

Congrats on the buck get a score on him and get us on the board good shot to!!

KSBOHUNTR 09-25-2012 06:55 AM

Nice shooting there. Yeah he may be around 95 or so. Right in that ballpark. Still a nice buck and score. Thanks for sharing the photo. Hopefully I can contribute more than just a clever name. Teams got a good start.

Mibowhunter91 09-25-2012 07:37 AM

Hopefully we all get a chance to contribute!! I think Mi just wanted to tease me with that doe hunt now I have to wait till the 1st before I go out again!

KSBOHUNTR 09-25-2012 09:27 AM

That would be really tuff Matt now having to wait. That youth hunt fired me up when we had deer walk within 10 feet of our blind. Thankfully bow season started the Monday after that hunt so now it's just all on me to get out there. A few years back Kansas didn't open bow season until 1st of Oct. but has since changed to mid Sept. So you all have an early doe only season and then nothing between until Oct.?

Mibowhunter91 09-25-2012 10:04 AM

Last weekend was early doe 100 percent disabled and the youth hunt is goin all week then the 1st bow opens up. I wish Mi would open bow mid September I had a few nice bucks patterned pretty good then as soon as the beans turned yellow everyone of them vanished. I was hoping this year I would change.my eary season luck...guess we'll see

SlowDraw 09-25-2012 06:38 PM

Congrats Canuck 2 on the buck. If I recall from an earlier post you are only alowed one buck. Can you still go after a doe or 2? I hope co, it would be great to get a buck down early, but if I couldn't go back out till next year it would be bitter sweet.

Canuck_2 09-25-2012 08:10 PM

You're right, SlowDraw - basically 1 buck. But there are exceptions if I want to travel great distances. Does will be open Oct 10-31 for all and then again Dec 1-20 for archery only. So I'm not stymied yet.

KSBOHUNTR, good call. He went 91 7/8, as follows:

Total 91 7/8

Right ----- Left

MB15 2/8 ----- 15 1/8
G1 2 7/8 ----- 3 3/8
G2 7 1/8----- 6 7/8
G3 4 1/8 ----- 5 5/8

H1 3 0/8----- 3 1/8
H2 2 4/8 ----- 2 5/8
H3 2 6/8----- 2 5/8
H4 2 0/8----- 2 0/8

Inside spread 10 7/8

Someone please check my arithmetic.

OK, off to the official scoring thread I go.

KSBOHUNTR 09-26-2012 05:57 AM

Your score looks good to me. I have antlers on a plaque that looked about the same size as yours there so I took a guess based on that.

Talondale 09-26-2012 06:49 AM

Talondale checking in. I'm in VA and season opens Oct 6. I shoot a couple different old Bear recurves and an old Great Plains recurve. I started out shooting an XI Legend Magnum compound instinctive for 14 years and then when it's limbs started de-laminating I went to recurves. I'm moving from treestands to hunting more on the ground with a ghillie suit. Have had lots of deer close and personal. I'm looking to get a doe early for some meat and then concentrating on getting my buck.

Congrats to the two who've already scored. I prefer the Intentional Grounding name myself.

Mibowhunter91 09-26-2012 08:44 AM

gotta give u credit on the recurve! just wondering how far do you accurately shoot with it. I dont know any one by me that shoots traditional.

Talondale 09-26-2012 10:17 AM

I'm good out to 25 yards. I was good out to 40 yards with the compound shooting instinctive, it shot flatter. Most of my kills are under 16 yards, even with my guns. It's just the way I set up, not many long shots. Shot a doe with rifle last year at 125 yards and a bear a few years ago with BP at 150 yards but those are my longest.

Mibowhunter91 09-26-2012 03:53 PM

Yeah I hear ya I practice out a long ways but honestly.can't remember the last shot I took past 20 yards

SlowDraw 09-27-2012 08:25 AM

Hey Matt, I noticed you do not have bigriver12 marked as signed in on the first post. He did check in on post 20. I think it was before the official announcment of the alternate list, but I am guessing he thinks he has officially checked in. If that is the case then it looks like we have our full team. Harry

Mibowhunter91 09-27-2012 09:10 AM

Nice catch there looks like we do have our selves a full team

Mibowhunter91 09-27-2012 09:17 AM

Now that we have a full team let's vote on a name. My vote goes to intentional grounding

SlowDraw 09-27-2012 11:52 AM

I vote for intentional grounding as well.

sanders3469 09-27-2012 12:09 PM

i vote intentional grounding too

Canuck_2 09-27-2012 06:10 PM

Intentional Grounding :)

Sniggle 09-27-2012 07:01 PM

WV kicks off bow season on Saturday, and I will be looking to add a few points to the team. Bucks have gone into their pre-rut lull, and it is too warm to take a doe, but maybe I will get lucky. Come 6:10 AM on Saturday I will be in my happy place!

Mibowhunter91 09-27-2012 07:06 PM

Good luck!! We have had pretty.cool weather so far this month I really hope it continues all fall!!

Mibowhunter91 09-28-2012 06:48 PM

Any other votes for a name?

sanders3469 09-30-2012 05:39 PM

i take it no one else want to vote so im guessin its settled

SlowDraw 10-01-2012 08:39 AM

I had a good opportunity to collect my doe points this morning. Jumped a real small lone doe in the dark about 30 yards from the tree I was going to climb, and didn’t see anything as of 9:00am, so I figured spooking the doe had done me in. I was just getting ready to climb down when I spotted a couple of deer moving through the woods. Well it turned out to be 2 adult does and a young of the year doe. The one came right in and the mom and young one were following behind. I noticed the lead doe had a chunk of fur hanging under her chin. As she cleared some brush I realized it was some kind of hair covered growth. Then noticed she had some other dark tumors in various locations, two baseball sized ones on her front leg and chest and a few quarter sized ones. She was feeding normally and looked otherwise healthy. The other two deer looked normal, so I decided to wait for the other large doe too get in range. I just didn’t think she looked to appetizing. Of course the tumor doe walks right out and starts munching acorns 16 to 18 yards away (broadside then quartering away) for over 5 minutes. The little on presented a 22 yard shoot and old mom stayed at least 25 yards away either behind something or on a bad angle. They feed right around me for over half an hour meandering around, but never getting that close again. Would you guys have just taken the tumor doe (or waddle as I started to think of her, since that is what the flapping skin covered growth looked like)? She was most likely fine to eat, but I would of always had the image of the tumors in the back of my mind.

Mibowhunter91 10-01-2012 08:57 AM

I might have been with you there I am.sure she was probable fine to.eat as well but you never know. Now if she looked in pain or something like that it would be different. I tired talking my way out of work today but that didn't happen so here I sit watching an asphalt plant go round and round.

On a different note no one else voted so team 14 is now team intentional grounding

KSBOHUNTR 10-01-2012 09:16 AM

If I copy the pictures in correctly. I will say that I know what you mean.
I'm not sure if I would shoot the thing or not. I would not shoot this buck but in your case the doe, I just don't know what I would do.

Mibowhunter91 10-01-2012 09:23 AM

Interesting have any idea what they are or what they are from?

KSBOHUNTR 10-01-2012 09:24 AM

Does anyone on our team have any talent for making us a logo. I don't have any idea how to start making something like that. A deer on the ground makes sense of course. I can find a picture and add our team name over it but that is about it I think. I can't not actually design and draw something.

KSBOHUNTR 10-01-2012 09:33 AM

No idea Matt. I have never seen anything like this before.

You mentioned watching asphalt go round and round. You mind me asking what company that is with?

Mibowhunter91 10-01-2012 09:39 AM

I was wondering that to since like you said a picture and letters is about the extent of.my graphic design abilities
