Got my grandpa on in stand Saturday and he got a mature doe with his xbow. Heavy rain here this morning but its slacking up and I will be out tonight!

ManofTheFall 10-08-2012 06:06 PM

I had a nice 2 1/2 yr old 8 point give me several shot opportunities be his is definitely not what I'm looking for. Maybe I will have better luck tomorrow.

Ken/WV 10-08-2012 06:35 PM

Passed a couple small bucks tonight.....hoping in the morning is my day.

Claude485 10-09-2012 12:12 AM

ManofTheFall 10-09-2012 08:38 AM

j76 10-09-2012 04:12 PM

Well didn't make it out tonite. Right about the time i got out of work the wind just started crankin! Weather has been terrible for huntin here. Out of nine days i think there has only been one worth hunting. Rest of the week is supposed to be crap! High winds and rain & sleet. Looks like it will be the weekend befor i get back out which isn't lookin any better as of right now.

ManofTheFall 10-09-2012 08:17 PM

Not very good this past evening either. I saw one running about 80 yards away. I wasn't sure what it was.

ManofTheFall 10-09-2012 08:43 PM

Tuesday morning and evening were pretty uneventful. I am going to try to leave work early Thursday morning. I'm hoping I can get off about 4:45am. It's suppose to be in the upper 20's where I am at. If I can get off early I will definitely be in a tree stand Thursday morning. Then I will sleep a couple hours and be right back at it Thursday evening. Good luck to everyone else!!!!!

peakrut 10-10-2012 10:07 AM

Are you anywhere near Dublin? Delaware county maybe?

Starting to slow down some with the warmer temps returning.

ManofTheFall 10-10-2012 08:54 PM

I am in Tuscarawas county. I would say I'm about 2-2 1/2 hours northeast of there. I am really pushing my boss tonight so I can get out early and be in the stand this morning. As long as everything works out she said ok. I also plan on being out there Thursday evening. Good luck to you all!!!!!

peakrut 10-10-2012 10:12 PM

I will be out later this afternoon trying to get a doe for the freezers and of course some points.

Well guys!!!!! This evening I let my first arrow of the season fly. Result: Shot underneath, just grazed a nice doe. I just plain misjudged the distance. I was shooting uphill and it looked to be 20 yards to me. I got down and retrieved my arrow and when I stepped it off it was 27 yards. Usually I'm pretty good at guessing distance but this one got me. I guess it's time to invest in a range finder, lol. Here is all I have to show for it.

j76 10-12-2012 04:31 PM

Yep!! Seen that once or twice befor Manofthefall!
Well the best nite of the week and what looks like the best for a few more was tonite. Perfect weather and where was i??? Not huntin thats for sure! Forcast callin for 100% heavey rain on saturday, saturday nite, and 70% sunday and sunday nite! I've hunted about half what i wanted to this point in the season due to the weather. I'm prayin the rain and wind hold off and the good weather today at least last till 8 or 9 am tomorrow and i can get a descent mornin hunt in. Long as its not a monsoon i'll be out in the am. I've got a lot of season left and its only gonna get better but damn am i gettin impatiant with the weather!!!!!!
good luck this weekend guys!

finner 10-12-2012 05:12 PM

Thats a bummer Mano, but it happens i need to get a rangefinder also so i dont have that happen to me.

Well guys i seen a nice buck this evening and i blew it, i had a doe and a fawn come in and as they passed by me i looked in the direction they came from and there he is standing there 50yrds away. Well dummy me decides to move my left arm to ready my bow from my lap and one of the does spots me and starts blowing and ran a few yards. The buck is looking around trying to find out what there blowing at. Well instead to following the way the does came he angled up toward the orchard and i watched him walk out of sight. He was probally about a 120-130inch 8 point. the only good thing is that he never new i was there and i snuck out hopefully without him knowing. Ill be back at it in the morning to try and catch him leaving the orchard heading to bed

ManofTheFall 10-12-2012 09:24 PM

I am going to try and get off work at 5am and be out there in the morning. If not I will definitely be out there Saturday evening.

j76 10-13-2012 05:21 AM

Got up at 5:30, stuck my head outside and nothin but stars and dead calm. Sweet i thought! By the time i got to the farm it had completely clouded over and the wind was blowing. Still wasn't too terribly windy and thought it would be a descent set but nothing!!! Guess i gottta give up on that spot for a while. Checked the cam by the stand, been there for a week and only 2 pics on it. Gonna try to get out tonite and sun nite but looks doubtfull with the weather.
Good luck guys!

Ken/WV 10-13-2012 05:10 PM

Little bucks are moving....going to get good soon.

The Rage Chisel's are nasty when you make contact. Keep at it.

j76 10-14-2012 09:05 AM

Been pouring since noon yesterday. Flood wornings till 5 am Monday. Radar looks like it could move out by 4 or so tonite but not what they are saying. This is killin me just sittin here at the house all weekend!

Ken/WV 10-14-2012 08:08 PM

We got some rain and wind coming in tonight that clears out close to daylight. Might be a good morning!

ManofTheFall 10-15-2012 09:24 PM

Saturday evening I shot at a nice doe. I didn't see the branch/stick in the way and it deflected my arrow. So, she lived to see another day. Monday morning I forgot my release but I didn't see any deer anyways. Monday evening I saw 7 does and 5 different bucks. I saw the giant we have on the property. He is at least 180". Then I saw a nice 150" and two that would go 110"-120". Then there is this real scrubby looking older buck that I have no idea what his score is. I had the 150" at 40 yards broadside at 7:05pm. I could see him but I couldn't see my pins so I let him go. Not a bad evening but would have been better if I put one down.

Sorry to hear about the doe Mano, it happens to the best of us. Sounds like your on to the bucks, keep at it and you will get your shot at one. I hunted this past sunday seen a couple doe's and that was it. Ill be going out a few times this week for the evening hunt. Good luck guys!!

Ken/WV 10-16-2012 10:01 AM

Sounds like a great evening manofthefall.

Quiet morning, going back out this evening.

ManofTheFall 10-16-2012 08:20 PM

I was out this evening (16th) and didn't see anything. I won't be back out until the evening of the 18th.

ManofTheFall 10-16-2012 08:22 PM

Just curious. I saw someone enter a button buck as a doe. Is that legal? Personally, I think if someone shoots a button buck they should lose points.

HNI_Christine 10-17-2012 06:04 AM

Doe Down! :)

backwoods13 10-17-2012 07:06 AM

good job HNI Christine

Congrats on the doe!

ManofTheFall 10-18-2012 01:13 AM

Congrats Christine!!!!! More points for the team!!!!!

ManofTheFall 10-18-2012 01:13 AM

I got the stand moved on the 17th. This is the stand where I have been seeing the 180" giant. I have seen him three times so far but have always been anywhere from 20-40 yards too far. I am going to put out some corn and sugar beets on Friday and hit that stand Monday evening. I can't wait. I will be hunting another stand on that same property this evening (18th). I am going to try and take out a doe if any comes close enough.

Ken/WV 10-18-2012 12:39 PM

Goodluck.....its storming here so I won't be out till tomorrow evening.

j76 10-18-2012 05:01 PM

Congrats on the nice doe Christine!
Weather let up for me to get out tuesday nite, seen a few does way off and had a spiker come fairly close. Dads comin back up Friday and we will be out Fri nite and sat morn and eve and i'll be out again sunday nite. Of course, chance of rain friday and saturday so we'll see what happens.
My one stand is right by the prop line, The deer like to cross and go into the corn. I have 3 or 4 good runs that cross the fence and come in close to my stand and then there's another about 60 yards out from me. Almost all the deer i've had cross in the few times i've sat there take that far run thats out of range. No trees to get in closer to it so was wondering what would happen if i took some limbs and brush and blocked that run at the fence. What do you guys think they would do? Would they just cross by it and get back on that run or would they maybe move to the next run putting them closer to me?
Good luck this weekend guys!

ManofTheFall 10-18-2012 10:31 PM

It could bring them closer or move them farther away. Is there any way to get a ground blind closer to that spot?

ManofTheFall 10-18-2012 10:32 PM

I was out this evening, the 18th and didn't see a thing. I had 2 others buddies hunting on the same property and they didn't see any either. Must be that October lull. Depending on the weather, I will either be out again Saturday morning or evening or both.

Cant do a groundblind, grass too high wouldn't be able to see.

Sat in the same spot tonite, gambled on the weather, left the house in a thunderstorm bankin on it quitten. It did after a long sit in the truck and a short sit in the stand, think it was pushin 6 p.m. befor we finally got situated. But was worth it. Deer moved bigtime. Pry my most action packed hunt yet, but no shootin, still a good time tho. Had a button buck in range and and some close does on the wrong side of me plus the spiker from the other nite. Was fun at least. Gotta a good feeling about the rest of the weekend. Between me and dad i think someones gonna have blood on their hands by sunday!

ManofTheFall 10-20-2012 07:12 AM

I was out this morning and tried some rattling and grunting for the first time this season. I didn't see any deer at all. I did see some turkeys on my way out and almost shot one of them, lol. Driving in I saw a 2 1/2 year old 8 point. My next time out won't be until Monday evening. Good luck to all.

Ken/WV 10-20-2012 04:38 PM

I think I missed a good day today, but I stayed in with my 5 month old son and watched football. Moving some stands tomorrow and preparing for the pre-rut to start.

j76 10-21-2012 05:31 AM

Sounds like ya still had a pretty good day Ken!
After all the movement Fri. nite i thought Saturday would be great! Woke up at 5 am to rain!!!!! We decided to stay dry and drink coffee. Was way fired up for Sat. nite and was a big let down! Deer didn't move at all till i was about ready to get out of the stand. Seen 5 or 6 but was too dark to shoot and they never came close enough anyways. These deer are kickin my butt this year! I'll give it another try tonite. Hopefully things turn around for me when the rut starts.
