Sounds like a carbon copy of where I'm hunting at. Usually by now I have at least 3 or 4 down. I think things are going to take a sharp turn for the better though here real soon. This schedule isn't set in stone, but it looks like I will be hunting Monday and Tuesday evenings, Wednesday morning, Thursday evening, Friday morning, and Saturday morning and evening. Good luck to you all!!!!! Hopefully we all start putting some nice one's down!!!!!

I was out this evening and the only thing I saw was a doe that had a button buck with her. The button buck gave me several opportunities to take him but I gladly passed. The doe, the one I wanted to shoot got as close as 18 yards but never gave me an opportunity.

Least yer seein em Mano! Nothing even stepped foot on my prop the last sit. I think since this cornfeild isn't all that big, they work in at nite and when i leave even if i don't totally spook them out they know i'm there. After a couple sits in a row seems like they quit comin around. Haven't been to the other farm in a while cause i was comin up blank everytime there but gonna have to start alternating between the 2 anyways i guess. Warm temps the rest of the week, mid to upper 60's so gonna wait till at least Fri. to ge back out. Gonna cool down good for the weekend so hopefully that will get them goin.
Whats everyone else been up to? |
I decided not to go out this evening. It's too warm and I have too much stuff going on tonight. I will however be in a stand tomorrow morning. Check back for my update.
Didn't see any deer from the stand this morning. I saw a small 6 point chasing a doe in a field when I was driving home.
Hot here as well.....right at 80-82 degrees so I'm waiting for this weekend when the rain comes and the weather drops unto the upper 40's through the day.
I'm debating about going out Thursday evening and Friday morning. I may just take in the Community Pep-Rally for our rivalry football game. Then the big game is Friday night. That cold front that will be moving in sounds much more like my kind of sit in a stand. I hate it when it's hot!
I will be going out Friday morning.
Good luck Mano. I'm gonna have to wait till Sat morn to go out. Have yet to hunt the corn feild in the morn so we will see. It will either be good or i'll spook the crap out of em walkin in. Will be out sunday as well and gonna try to get out as much as i can after work next week. Nov. 15 is comin fast, thats the rifle opener and usually the end my bowseason.
Didn't see any this morning. Big change in the weather coming though. Hopefully next week things will really kick in in the deer woods. Weather is suppose to be terrible on Saturday so I probably won't be going out until Monday.
I've been hunting hard but it sure has been slow the last few sits. I will be back at it monday afternoon to get a doe I hope. Stay after it gents!
I snuck out Saturday evening between the rain drops. I had 3 button bucks walk under my stand. They are starting to become very tempting, lol. Lately it seems like it's all I've been seeing. Hurricane is going to have a bad impact on the early part of my vacation. It looks like torrential rains with 30-50 mph winds the next 4 days. I probably won't be doing much if any hunting then.
Well this weekend was a big fat dissapointment! Sat morn was my best hunt, that consisted of 2 yearlings screwin around in front of me for a while and 3 big does that once again, no matter the wind direction always find their way dead downwind of me. That was it! Sat in a different spot at the other farm the last two nites and blanked out both times. This has been the worste bowseason i've had in a long time. Might make it out thursday nite and building a rifle blind next week end but should still make it out in the evenings at least as long as the weather is ok. Good luck guys.
Hunted all weekend in the rain....my papa took his second doe of the season with his xbow. I passed everything waiting on a buck and got shutout. Went back to work today and going to work until Thursday when the weather clears out and hopefully will get something on the ground from thursday-sunday.
I haven't been out since Saturday evening. I am on my vacation now and once this beyotch Hurricane Sandy clears out I will be pounding the woods. Looks like I will be getting back out either Thursday morning/evening or both.
This team is pretty quiet! Hows everyone doing? Weather finally settling back down here. A good cold weekend coming. I haven't seen any signs of the rut yet but maybe now i will. Should be able to get out tonite and sat and sun nite.
We need some points guys!!! Go get em! |
I'm looking to get out this afternoon but it looks like one more big patch of rain is coming through. If I don't get out this evening I will definitely be getting out Friday.
I had a good evening sit last night and almost got it done. it never got above 34 deg here Yesterday. I just got up in my climber and i heard a fant grunt to my NW about 5 min later he materializes out of the brush about a 120" 8 comes by at about 40yrds but i had no shot. As he was walking away i hit the grunt call a couple times that turned him but he then circled downwind of me stoped i had one little opening to squeeze an arrow thru but he was a good 30yrds and he was on high alet, i passed he then turned and walked out of site i think he winded me a little. After that i tried a little rattling to bring him back but no go. i then had 5 big does walk under my stand shortly after heading in the direction the buck left. I think i know this bucks bed room and i was not farm from it tonight but i aslo need to make a move also, west about 50yrds and i should be able to put a sqeeze on him, where this pond funnels them through. Maybe this weekend! bucks are really moving around here Lots of people seeing them in the middle of the day. Good luck guys!!
I'm heading out in about 45 minutes here in Wisconsin.
Another stikeout for me. Don't think i seen so much as a tweety bird tonite! Was windy and got worse the later it got. Ready to get back in my tree stand on the edge of the cornfeild but the wind direction is all wrong and don't look like its gonna change for a few days. I can't beleive how the deer have just quit coming to this farm i hunted tonite. I used to always see deer there. Oh well i guess just have to keep at it.
I've been able to get out much. Hopefully, I'll be able to hunt the next couple of days.
Seems like the chasing is about to begin around here. |

This morning I saw 2 doe and a small 7 pointer. This evening I went out. I was completely settled in my stand at 3:49pm. I had a yearling doe down by 3:59pm. I finally broke the ice this year. Tomorrow morning should be a great morning in the stand.
Nice work Mano!!! Should be perfect weather this eve, i'll be headed out in an hour or so.
I was out this morning and it was afairly good morning even though I didn't get anything. I had a nice doe come in at 7:15, but it was too dark to shoot her and legal shooting light wasn't until 7:28. Then at 7:20 another deer came in behind the doe. It was that giant I had been seeing the first two weeks of the season. The doe bolted when he closed to 14 yards of my stand and he was broadside but again it was just too dark to shoot. I think if that doe wouldn't have bolted out of there in about 10 more minutes I would have had a giant on the ground. Then, behind me I had two really nice shooter bucks chasing a group of three doe's about 30-40 yards behind my stand. If those doe's would have just came out past my stand I would have been in business. After that the next 3 hours were quiet and I got down. I won't be able to get back out until Monday morning.
Right at dark had a shooter buck, my first of the season just skirt wide of me.He was sooo borderline gettin one flung at him! If it was 10 min earlier i pry would have shot. Oh well, i needed that! Got me back into it. Gonna try it again tommorow nite.
I am not a big fan of decoys, but tomorrow I will be taking out my Montana doe decoy and setting it up where these two shooter bucks I've been seeing has been running these does. I will be spraying her down with the special golden doe estrus and hopefully the big boys will make a bee line for her when I give a few bleats on the can call. If there is ever a time for a decoy, it is now.
I saw a small buck and a doe this morning and that was it. I will be going back out this afternoon.
This evening I saw 2 small bucks. One was a 6 point and I think the other one was a 4 pointer. Hopefully tomorrow morning will be a little more exciting. There is a heavy freeze warning for the area so it should be nice and crunchy in the morning and I will be able to hear the big boys coming.
Good luck Mano!!! Put em down!
Well, I blew a chance at a real beast of a buck this morning. I have been saving my one stand for this week. I hit that stand this morning and it didn't disappoint but I blew it though. Just after legal shooting light I did a blind call with the can and hit the grunt tube a couple times. Immediately I heard movement behind me over my right shoulder. At first sight it looked like a 2 1/2 year old just inside his ears so I didn't get too excited. He then stepped into the clearing 15 yards behind my stand and I saw he was a true beast. His spread was only about 14" but his G 2's were about 12" long. His brow tines were like 8" and they angled in towards each other. I would estimate his bases were like 7"-8". This buck had some serious mass. He was a 10 pointer with a 3 inch kicker off his left G-2. He was broadside on my right side like 10 yards away with a wide open shot. This is where the problem began. I was strictly a crossbow hunter in the past. This tree is really set up pretty much for crossbow use. I even said to myself I should take my crossbow instead of my compound. I could not pull this shot off. I had to wait until he started walking again and draw on him. Then he angled to his right and walked away right behind a tree. I did have an opening at forty yards but I had to stand up. When I stood up there was a branch in my way and I still couldn't shoot. Eventually i had to just let him walk away. The one good thing about all this is he didn't spook at all. So, tomorrow morning I will be back out in the same stand with my good old Horton Legend.
Sounds like a dandy Mano! Good luck with him.
Between work and trying to get the new rifle blind done i just haven't made it out.Lookin like this week is gonna be pretty slow at work so hopefully i'll get back out in the next couple days. |
I saw a 2 1/2 year old 8 point this evening. Tomorrow morning I will be back trying to get another crack at the big boy I saw this morning.
Man all I am seeing is bucks here in Wisconsin. The gun season start next saturday so I only have a few days to score a doe with the bow. Keep at it boys and good luck.
Looks my my bowseason is on hold for a bit. Rifle opener is this Thurs. Hopefully i'll have a bit better luck there. Sorry for no kills for the team guys, i've sure been tryin but things just haven't panned out for me. Bowseason picks back up after gun season, tough hunting but i'll give it a try then. Good luck Guys!
I will be getting back out Tuesday through Friday and hunting as much as possible. The only exception will be Wednesday evening.
Buck down! :)
