WTG Arrow. Even though we aren't teammates here. Where did you get sent this year? I guess you did not kill our bubba bird from the zoo last year....

Arrowmaster 04-20-2010 02:21 PM

I had a very good hunt in Missouri. I called in this turkey and he brought a friend with him. Could have been a double kill had my buddy been with me. I started out hearing 8 toms. Before fly down I got their attention with some soft tree yelps thep once light enough I did a fly down cackle. So the birds were on a dead run across the field to me. I yelped with the mouth call and they would stop and triple gobble at me. Then they would strt running again. Well they decied to circle my location. Once they circled they came out into a waterway to my left. They second bird began strutting and I thought ok your the dominate one so I cutt aggressive at them. The strutter raised his head and the rest is history. He weighed 22lbs with 1in spurs and a 10in beard.

IL-Cornfed 04-20-2010 06:24 PM

CONGRATS on the Gobbler "AM" !!! Great bird and a great hunt!!! We're puttin' some numbers on the board now!!!

Good luck in Indy, Turkey Goddess!

I'm worried by the number, which seems to be the majority, of our "Team" that has remained silent throughout this contest ?!? Where are they ???

Best of luck to the rest of ya.

colbea 04-20-2010 07:16 PM

Way to go Arrow! TG you go get them girl. I have to wait until Monday and they,re calling for rain all next week.

Howler 04-21-2010 04:58 AM

Congrats again Arrowmaster, sounds like a great hunt, all though a short one. Although I don't mind quick short hunts from time to time myself.
That's three down for the team. That's a good start with a lot of season to go.

IL-Cornfed 04-21-2010 05:56 AM

I hope TG has a big ol' Gobbler thrown over her back right now! Good luck girl, I'm curious to hear the gobbling report from Indy?

I know we have a bunch of rain and thunderstorms heading our way all weekend long, I'm bowhunting Fri thru Wed for my other IL tag.... sounds like it's gonna be a cold and wet one.... I hope you others are gonna get more favorable hunting conditions ?!?

Turkey Goddess 04-21-2010 02:41 PM

Hey guys!!! I wish I had a big Ol' Gobbler thrown on my back right now IL - Dang!!! But I will tell you ONE THING - it makes me happy as hell to have u rootin' for me!!! :) :) :)

Well - we were in the woods set up at 5 a.m. This was my husband's first time turk hunting too - so I guess you could say it was the blind leading the blind this morning!!! LOL I'll tell you what, I'm not sure my heart has EVER raced that hard!!! We had 6-10 gobblers within 300 yards of us - gobbling up a storm still on the roost. Had a nice one about 100-150 yards from us. We could also hear several jakes to the East of us. We sat there drooling and anticipating - waiting for them to fly down and BOOM! We had a real early gun shot to the East of us. Then just as it started to get light, we could hear the turkey's moving West of us. We got up and snuck to the West - did some soft yelps - heard another hunter right behind us yelp back. DANG IT! He snuck in there on us.

Hubby and I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why ALL of them went WEST. I know we had 10+ (toms/jakes) out there gobbling like crazy. Why would they ALL have gone the same direction??? Talked to Arrowmaster about it earlier - of course the obvious answer is that they followed the hens. We also noticed as we were leaving that there is an unplowed field there - maybe that's what attracted the hens... ??? What do you guys think???

I wish I was going out this evening - but Hubby had to work. We'll be out early tomorrow. A few lessons learned and even hungrier than we were this morning! LOL We're going to sit off that unplowed field and hope we cut them off on their way there.

Sorry for a long story and NO POINTS - but hoping maybe u guys will help have a suggestion or two!!!

TOMORROW IS MY DAY - I can feel it! :) hehehe

Kim :)

IL-Cornfed 04-21-2010 06:10 PM

I'd like to see what would happen if you placed a Full Strutter decoy in that unplowed field ?!?

Arrowmaster 04-21-2010 07:45 PM

Thanks all.

GRIZZLYMAN 04-22-2010 04:50 AM

Congratulations Arrowmaster!

I'll be heading out tomorrow morning to the Texas Panhandle to chase Rios for a few days. Unfortunately, this will be my only trip this year since the Arkansas G&F have decided to make the spring turkey season short and shorter over the years and the stars just didn't align this year for me (like last year).

Good luck to all, and hopefully I will have good news on Monday.

car 04-22-2010 06:00 AM

Still nothing. Heard 2 gobblers this morning and had a hunter on the next property scare one of the birds off. Maybe tomorrow :)

car 04-23-2010 08:44 AM

Well it not getting any better. Heard a hen today :(

Sounds like a pretty tough season for ya so far. I hope things get better for ya. When does your season end?

car 04-23-2010 03:34 PM

Its a 4 week long season. So far I have not seen a long beard. All jakes.

It was a slow miserable day of hunting here! I spent 7 1/2 hours in the blind watching it pour rain by the buckets! Didn't hear a single gobble. I did see a small group of hens out in the field approx 200 yards out and about a 1/2 hour later I could see a tom cross a small pasture and join the hens in the field.... never showed any interest in heading in my direction. This storm system is gonna be here til' Sunday so looks like I have to deal with it and hope for some luck?

Good luck to you this weekend

Arrowmaster 04-23-2010 06:51 PM

Keep at it car... IL I hear ya about the weather. I did manage to strike up a gobbler and got him to 100 yards. Then the rain came. Never heard another peep from him. Im after this one gobbler I had him at 50yards yesterday in the woods. Its very tough to see in the woods now. My buddy didnt help me either when I said hold my call while I reposition myself for a shot (were in a blind). I got in position the turkey gobbled. My buddy started yelping with my call at him. Bird shut up never heard anymore. Dang

Arrowmaster 04-23-2010 06:53 PM

OK stickers are in. I need addresses to send out the stickers to each team member. PM me with your addresses. :)

Turkey Goddess 04-23-2010 06:59 PM

Hey guys! :) Well day 3 didn't produce any gobblers - actually didn't produce any gobbles either!!! We had lots of wind and rain. Going to go at it again in the morning... I'm still thinking eventually that bad boy is gonna come to my sweet sexy yelps!!! LOL

Keep at it guys!!! :)

Kim

Howler 04-24-2010 05:55 AM

Sorry to say, I believe this storm that is now pulling away from here, is headed for you all. It left a lot of moisture here, in the form of snow, but it looks like it's got a lot more coming with it, of course in the form of rain. Glad to say, I won't be hunting in it, have fun ya'll!!!

Are using photobucket or another website to post the pic from. If so there is an insert image when you post.

Tomorrow is another day.

Arrowmaster 04-25-2010 06:53 AM

Good luck AM! The heavy rains and storms are finally blowing through my region today so the rest of the next week is lookin' pretty good. I'll be out there trying to better my score Mon, Tues and Wed morning. I've got my fingers crossed... I really want to use my bow on one this Spring but I'm running out of time! :s1:

Turkey Goddess 04-26-2010 04:39 AM

The weather here has been majorly uncooperative!!! I bet we had 30-35 mph winds yesterday - it was howling - chilly and rain... GRRRR!!! Friday and Saturday were crappy too - real windy. It's still like that this morning, but I'm hoping this weather will push on out of here and clear up for an evening hunt today.... PLEASE!!!! :)

Kim :)

GRIZZLYMAN 04-26-2010 05:08 AM

Well, I struck out this weekend. Out of seven people hunting, one jake. Wind was 25-35 mph most of the time. Unfortunately, this weekend was pretty much my whole season. Sorry guys.

Turkey Goddess 04-26-2010 05:41 AM

Grizzlyman - That sounds like my weekend!!! Sorry u didn't get a turk bud - I'm sure that bums you out. At least you got out there and "enjoyed" nature - hard to do in this crappy weather though, I must admit!!!

I still have 14 days left in our season here - so hopefully I can seal the deal. :)

Kim :)

Turkey Goddess 04-26-2010 06:15 AM

Hey Guys -

Our captain's in Missouri - I'm sure he'll be landing a turk any minute now!!! :)

Colbea's season starts today in Ontario - Good Luck Colbea!!!!!!!!! :) Come on buddy, we need some points on the board! LOL

We also have 3 guys with season opener's this Saturday - I feel it - We're gonna have a good week!!! Oya!!!!

Kim :)

IL-Cornfed 04-26-2010 03:16 PM

FINALLY had a morning that wasn't raining but the wind was still cold and clipping along at 20+ mph. The heavy rains of the last few days have left a flooded, swampy mess of most of the property and it's made access difficult. The flooded creek cuts me off from the roost which obviously hurts my bowhunting strategy. Either way, the birds just weren't talking much today. Had one Tom that shut up once he hit the ground and the other only gobbled a couple dozen times before moving away towards a large field that I don't have access to. I spent all day (5:30 to 1:00 PM) in the blind and only heard those 2 birds. I had a lone Hen walk past shortly after 7 o'clock but she never brought a boyfriend by. Still have 2 more days to hunt before its back to work.

Howler 04-26-2010 04:35 PM

Congrats BOWHUNTINGisLIFE, let's see some pics. Either Email to IL-Cornfed, or ya can Email'm to me and we'll get them posted.

Sorry to here everyone is strugglin' with the weather, and un-cooperative birds. I'm heading back to the farm in KS. this coming weekend with a friend of mine in hopes of filling his two tags. I'll tote the video camera along and catch it on film for him.
Hang in there, those that are still hunting. Some times late season is when the best action happens, when those 'ol gobblers run out of hens to breed.

hatchet jack 04-27-2010 05:10 AM

Sorry not around for some time!!! Work, work, work!!! I will be in the woods on saturday for the start of the PA season! I have 2 tags and will be going up the hills next week for 5 days of a much need turkey vacation !!! Can't wait!!!!!! Keep on pluging team 2 !!! Oh on a side note I did book a 7 week bowhunt to Kansas the last week of october this year!!! That will be a much needed Deer Bowhunting vacation!!! Good Luck and be safe!!!

Hatchet Jack

Turkey Goddess 04-27-2010 05:19 AM

Good luck Hatchet Jack!!! :) We're all still going at it like gang-busters.... I feel it, we're gonna have a helluva week!!!

Kim :)

hatchet jack 04-27-2010 07:18 AM

I think you right Kim !!!!

Hatchet Jack

hatchet jack 04-27-2010 07:23 AM

How many birds do team 2 have on the board?

Hatchet Jack

Howler 04-27-2010 10:04 AM

Should have 4 kills on the board, if we've gotten BOWHUNTINGisLIFE bird scored/posted.

What part of KS. will ya be deer hunting. Our family farm in in North Central KS. and I go back every year to deer hunt.

colbea 04-27-2010 01:53 PM

Here he is, my first bird of 2010.

Turkey Goddess 04-27-2010 06:48 PM

We should have 5 on the board now!!! Ya baby!!! :)

Congrats Colbea!!! Great looking turkey!!! WOOHOO!!!!!

Also got the stats on BOWHUNTINGisLIFE's turk ... sweet! NWTF Score: 25 + 10 + 11.25 + 19 = 65.25

Keep at it guys - I had a good evening. Didn't seal the deal but saw several hens. Tried a new spot and I have a good feeling about it. There's a BIG BOSS GOBBLER out there - they're been running him for the past 4 years - old boy has 5 beards - rumor is, he has my name on him!!! ;) :) Holy crap - I can only hope!!!!! No one else is hunting this spot this year, so that is a HUGE PLUS! The other spot was only supposed to have 1 other hunter, but I know we've seen close to 7 or 8 guys out there so far.

I'm fired up!!! (Did u notice?) LOL Nice job guys!

Kim :)
