I'm around. I'll be hunting whitetails in Texas and mule deer in New Mexico.
Got some decent bucks on camera this year. This one is the best.  I'll be hunting the same place as last year in New Mexico where I killed a 181" mule deer and they said they saw 4 bucks that big or bigger that made it through the year and this year should have been a great year for antler growth. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute this year. Good luck everyone! |

There are for sure some good opportunities with the team. I will be checking cams today sometime. We moved them to some trails over the last week or so and I am hoping to catch some better travel patterns. Hopefully my clover plot we planted a week ago is coming up as well. I have high hopes for the imperial clover. We will see if it lives up to them.
Depending on if the rain holds off today, I may plant some more wheat and little clover in another patch we round-uped a couple of weeks ago. The weather here as been a little wierd. Dry and hot for several weeks and the last 1 1/2 weeks have been cool and about 5 inches of rain. Great for plots if the seed is in the ground though. We also need to elect a team captain and come up with a name. Any suggestions? |
Hey guys, just checking in as well. I hunt private land in Michigan and Either public land, or if I can get permission this year again, private land in Southern Illinois. The spot I hunt in Michigan isn't known for its big bucks but you never know. Southern Illinois though is always up in the air, I never know what I'm going to see down there, both public and Private.

Just a few more to go on getting the team checked in. I've been on a team with Crokit before, he's a good guy.
No preferences here on team name or team captain. I'll be out a lot this fall otherwise I would volunteer to pull some duties. Pretty much impossible to come up with a team name that hasn't been used before. Trying to think of off the wall names all I could come up with was "Antlers Anonymous". Not sure if it has been used before or not. |
How about, "Big Bucks R Us"? Just a dumb suggestion.

If some one on our team wants to be captain, or if every one wants me. That will be ok, but it needs to be what the team wants. JMHO |

JRBSR has my vote for team Capt., or, like he said, if anyone else wants it, ditto. Also, either avitar is good w/me.
WIbuckchaser: Yup, probably very comparable. 130-150 class very doable each year, especially in the Adirondacks where I hunt. Just a matter of right place at the right time { as if this is just a small thing lol:wink: } |

Got my Wyoming general tag elk this week. Shot it on opening morning. I doesn't count toward the contest, but I was pretty happy with him. Pretty tough hunting. We talked to several other hunters and most hadn't even seen or heard an elk all week. My friend I hunt with got his on Thursday.
Here's mine.  Here's his.  Here they are both back at camp.  One more elk hunt in New Mexico where I'm hoping to hold out for a nice bull, then I'll start working on deer after that. |

Went out this morning with the muzzleloader and downed a doe for the backstraps.
A shift in the wind (shifty winds were a real problem today) right before legal shooting light forced me to abandon my spot overlooking a wooded draw that leads to a bedding area. I was on a hillside and decided to back out, use the hill to shield my movement, and circle to a place where the wind was right, and then still hunt from there up through the draw. To do that, I had to circle a pond and saw 4-5 does walking toward me below the dam. Once they came into range, the first one that turned broadside was going home in the pickup. An easy fifty yard shot and I saw her drop. The only other drama: vultures. I dressed the deer out and then noticed several vultures over head. I managed to cover the deer with several boards and an overturned picnic table and they stayed away long enough to walk for the truck. I will be the first deer of the contest. |

Sorry, but I'm completely apathetic about who our captain is. In my opinion anyone that wants to do it is fine with me. I don't want to do it! ;)

Checked my card today and found out the scrape I put camera on is quite active. I wonder if the new scent I am trying out this year is helping to attract them or if they all intended to stop in for a visit anyway?
