WIbuckchaser nice bucks.
Good Luck on getting one.

WIbuckchaser 10-08-2010 06:02 PM

Looking forward to hunting this weekend with my daughter on her very first youth hunt. I just wish it was not so darn warm. Hopefully we can see something in the morning because I have a bad feeling they are going to move late in the evening.

jrbsr 10-09-2010 07:33 AM

I put out a trail camera, but so far only I have only got 9 jpeg, and 238, and 14 second videos, of thin air. lol
I will post something as soon as they show uo.

Hunt4Life23 10-09-2010 06:25 PM

good luck with the trail cam jrbsr, they get very addicting once you start getting animals on there

DITTO!! Great elk, by the way. Looks & sounds like a great time.

WIbuckchaser 10-12-2010 05:44 AM

My daughter harvested her very first deer in the last hour of the Wisconsin youth hunt. She shot it with her new .243 at around 150 yards. She's a pretty good shot for a ten yr. old. Looks like I can retire my old 30-06 for a couple years.

jrbsr 10-14-2010 08:15 PM

Nice Congratulations to her.
A very nice pose to.
I wish her luck on getting a buck.

Here is a small 6 point, I got on my trail cam.
The first buck on it.

I just got my new trail cam to take good videos, and pictures, and it sprotted legs, and walked away.
Some people, Geeesh.

WIbuckchaser 10-16-2010 07:19 PM

Mine walked away tonight too, but it turns out it was the landowner that took it so sit sounds like I'll be getting it back in the morning, I hope. Father and son don't see eye to eye. I got permission from son so we'll see what comes about it tomorrow.

Ouch! My very first trail camera did that and it was on my own property so someone had to trespass to steal it.

Thankfully I haven't lost one since.

WIbuckchaser 10-17-2010 06:18 PM

Luckily I did get mine back.

jrbsr 10-19-2010 06:59 AM

I have a new # 2 trail cam.
And I have a lock, and cable attached to this one.
Pictures to come, when the deer start showing up.
The 2nd camera is up, and running.

Here is it first picture.

jrbsr 10-22-2010 04:36 AM

Got back from my New Mexico elk hunt. Was very happy to end up with a decent 6x6 on the ground. He scored right at 310" gross and net 302".

Here's the start of the packout.

For size reference, I'm a pretty big guy, 6'2" and 230lbs.

Was some REALLY rough country and I'm still sore three days later.

Here's the truck on the way home. We hunted some rough stuff that no one must go back in because we still ended up finding some sheds this late in the year.

Here's the sheds we found.

My New Mexico mule deer hunt starts Saturday so hopefully I'll be posting up some pictures of something that will count toward the contest next week!

That sounds like and looks like it was a great hunt. Minus the scrapes and blisters.

npaden 11-07-2010 04:55 PM

Got a nice mature mule deer in New Mexico this morning. That one will actually count for the contest. Rough scored him around 144" so after the .86 reduction for it being a mule deer it will count around 123" toward the contest. I'll try to get pictures and a final score posted up tomorrow. Logged 16 miles on the gps over the last 2 days.

Tired and happy for now.

npaden 11-08-2010 07:57 AM

Here's some pictures. I'll try to get him scored tonight.

Here he is with my son back at the house this morning.

Hunt4Life23 11-08-2010 04:46 PM

congrats on both the elk and mule deer! they both look like great animals. the mulie has a pretty unique rack! 12 days till i get started up with the gun in new york, cant wait!

npaden 11-09-2010 04:00 PM

Must have streched the tape a little tonight. ;)

I ended up with 147 2/8. Multiplied by 86% for an adjustment for it being a mule deer and it ends up as 126.635 for the contest.

He loses almost 10" of spread credit because the front forks are considered the main beams instead of the rear forks. Outside spread is 25" but he only gets spread credit of 14 5/8" for the inside spread on the front forks.

Do I go ahead and enter it now or do I wait to see if I shoot a bigger whitetail here in Texas?

Here's the scoresheet.

WIbuckchaser 11-09-2010 04:56 PM

Nice buck, congrats!

npaden 11-11-2010 09:15 AM

Thanks. I'll be headed down to my hunting land here in Texas tomorrow for a short weekend. Supposed to be rainy and cold so hopefully it will be a good one.

This guy is my #1 target, sure hope I see him! I think he should gross close to 160", I would love to check with a tape measure after he is on the ground!

npaden 11-13-2010 08:24 AM

Saw "Stubby" this morning several times and passed on him as well as a 2 1/2 year old 8 point last night and a different one this morning. Saw 7 does last night, but I don't think I'm going to take a doe this year, I've got PLENTY of meat in the freezer already!

Still hoping to see Mr. Big or Tilt.

npaden 11-13-2010 06:36 PM

No luck this weekend. Not sure when I'll get back down there, but hopefully I'll get a couple more tries in before season is over.

jrbsr 11-14-2010 09:55 AM

I got a couple doe on the new location.
The deer in the back ground, does that look like a doe?

WIbuckchaser 11-14-2010 04:31 PM

yep it's bald.

mbmrang 11-15-2010 06:30 AM

Well, I was able to get a decent 8 pointer. Grossed at 133 5/8. I'll get it entered into the contest when I pull the pics off my camera. Should be tonight. I hope everybody else has had good luck.

Enjoy guys.

npaden 11-15-2010 07:31 PM

Congrats on a nice buck!

Is that your doe in the picture too? That would score another 25 points for the contest and you could probably use the same picture to enter both.

jrbsr 11-16-2010 06:54 AM

The bucks are starting to make scrapes here.
I moved my game cam to 2 scraps, that are about 5 yards apart.
So hopefully it will get something.
Theres a big 10 point in the area, I am hopeing thats the one to get his picture taken.
I would love to get him in my gun sights.

mbmrang 11-16-2010 07:44 AM

Not my doe. But it was with this buck, or at least we assume. My uncle shot it about 5 minutes after the doe with my buck ran in his direction. He thought it was injured because it walked across the field kinda hunched up. And it was running or flagging. We are trying not to shoot any doe until this weekend so I for sure will have one down before the end of season.

Success in 2010!
