Nice video Ray. That's a nice buck, I'm not sure I'd pass on him. :)

Looks like the bugs were pretty bad.

The flies were driving the deer crazy! I had the ole thermocel going. It is a must in Sept and Oct. You can only take 1 buck a year in KY. I have seen several in the 140's-150's. I shot a decent 8 several years ago early and had a monster 10 come by during gun season. It sucks to sit there and watch a 160 inch deer walk by at 60 yrds and all you can do is watch.

Hey Ty, glad to see you and good luck with those bad boys you caught on trail cam. To get the avatar, just right click on the avatar next to anyone's name, then click "save picture as" and save it to your computer. To use it, click on UserCP on the forum page on the user control panel, then click on "edit avatar" under settings & options and browse to the file you just saved.

Ok guys, don't flame me. Except for an accidental button, I never shot a buck with my bow so I decided to take a fork horn tonight to break the ice. Well, now I have an antlered buck under my belt, but unfortunately it won't score much. Forgot my camera today too, so please excuse the back of truck shot when I post pics.

HNI_Christine 09-19-2009 06:56 PM

Hey Congratulations!!!

No need to apologize at all. You should be very proud of your buck.

I look forward to the pictures.

:groupwave:

Bible_Man 09-19-2009 11:44 PM

Not a problem! Congrats!

dubcee 09-20-2009 04:22 AM

Congrats on the buck! Points are points for the team, hopefully I can add to the team points. Going out out Monday, cant wait!

FF/EMT 09-20-2009 07:29 PM

Congrats on the buck!!.

I made it out Saturday morning and passed on one that I will probably end up kicking myself for. I would guess him to be at least 130 maybe a bit higher, he didnt spook and had no idea I was there so maybe I'll get a chance to take another look at him. Heading back out tomorrow evening. Good Luck Everyone!!

Bible_Man 09-20-2009 08:03 PM

I will be heading out for the first time in the morning! The moment has finally arrived.

Congrats on your first buck!

We all need to lay down some bone to be in the contest so you broke the ice for all of us, hurry up and get some pics posted;)

TX_Hoghunter 09-21-2009 11:50 AM

Congrats! Nothing quite like the first one.

-john

Bible_Man 09-21-2009 06:39 PM

Went out this morning and this afternoon...never saw a thing. Hoping for better luck in the morning. I need to put some in the freezer most importantly...some good sized bone wouldn't hurt my feelings either!

RIStrutStopper 09-21-2009 06:40 PM

Ok, here's a pic. He's hanging in a friend's walk-in fridge, I'll score him when I get him ready for the freezer.

TyMidge21 09-22-2009 10:31 AM

Congrats on the deer!

TyMidge21 09-23-2009 01:46 PM

Buck Down!

1 Attachment(s)
Got one down last night. Was in the stand for about 30 mins and this guy walked in. Eight yard shot from the base of my tree. To boot I forgot my boots so i was in my filp flops! I will post the score later this week. Got too late to score.

Bible_Man 09-23-2009 02:47 PM

Awesome buck, TY! Even more than that is good for our team, congratulations to you...I always heard that flip-flops were the best shoes to hunt in. It's all about comfort. Well, maybe I never had heard that.

IL_ray_phillips 09-23-2009 06:20 PM

SWEET! Congrats on a good early season buck!

dubcee 09-23-2009 06:35 PM

Woot! Congrats on the buck! keep on rackin up the points! Hopefully I can add to the total soon.

Bible_Man 09-23-2009 07:39 PM

I'll be going out in the morn, rain or shine. Had to take this morning off due to some thunderstorms. Rain doesn't bother me, but I ain't a big fan of the lightning. Seen absolutely nothing so far...hopefully my luck will change. More than anything, I want me some meat!

RIStrutStopper 09-23-2009 08:16 PM

Way to go TY, congrats! Good luck tomorrow Bible Man!

TX_Hoghunter 09-24-2009 12:47 PM

Great deer! I am still a little over a week from the opening.

-john

FF/EMT 09-24-2009 01:30 PM

Great buck Ty!! Congrats!

HNI_Christine 09-24-2009 04:18 PM

Sweet, two bucks down already for the team!

Way to go guys.

Season's still not open here but it's getting close.

TyMidge21 09-25-2009 10:30 AM

I will get the score up tonight or tomorrow morning! Gotta go cut and clean the rest of this guy up. Had him hanging at my buddies butcher shop!

Bible_Man 09-25-2009 10:42 AM

I have been 4 mornings and 2 afternoons this week and have not seen the first deer...quite frustrating.

TyMidge21 09-25-2009 02:23 PM

Keep your chin up! They are out there running around! Good luck and keep us posted!

Bible_Man 09-25-2009 06:36 PM

Going again in the morning with the wife...if we get a doe within 20, it is her go...otherwise, I will be doing the honors.

RIStrutStopper 09-25-2009 07:12 PM

Good luck in the morning, Bible Man. They should be moving tomorrow morning here, its gonna cool down a bunch. I won't get out til tomorrow afternoon though. I passed on a doe last time out cuz I had the buck down, if she walks by again tomorrow, she won't be so lucky...

Bible_Man 09-27-2009 05:59 PM

Went yesterday morning with nothing but rain. The wife and I went again this afternoon after church and we spooked 3 walking in...still didn't see them. This was my first time on one of the properties I hunt which I have exclusive rights to...old ladies at church are such a blessing to me! Saw a line or rubs though, and left my climber hanging about 25 yards off the trail line. Headed out in the morning again. Sooner or later, it will happen...I refuse to get frustrated!

RIStrutStopper 09-28-2009 05:53 AM

Hang in there Bible Man, sounds like you have a great spot. Saturday was a great day to be in the stand but I didn't see anything moving til about a half hour before sunset. Saw a couple does feeding about 100 yards away pretty close to where I was sitting on opening day. 15 min later, had a couple feeding 60-70 yards from my stand. I was thinking I might get a shot after all, but they faded away as it got dark. Oh well, I still had backstraps for dinner last night :s4:

Bible_Man 09-28-2009 08:16 AM

You would rub it in with those backstraps, Strut! J/K...nothing again this morning...super windy. I will go again in the morning, Lord willing, and possibly relocate my stand if nothing is happening.

RIStrutStopper 09-28-2009 07:14 PM

Sorry Bible Man. I won't tell you what I had for dinner tonight then  RI starts Thursday but I don't think I'll be getting out for the opener. I did just score a new piece of land today though. There's an Island that has a "deer problem". I had a stand there basically in someone's back yard a couple years ago. I saw deer there 2 out of 3 times I hunted it but didn't hunt it after that. I left the stand there and the guy who hooked me up with the landowner told me his son took maybe 5 deer from my stand last year, lol. Anyway, I just scored about 6 acres to hunt very close to that spot. 6 acres may not be much, but I bet its going to be an interesting place to sit. Unfortunately, the way this state works I'll have to buy separate tags to hunt there though. Oh well.

HNI_Christine 09-29-2009 04:37 AM

Starting to pace around, waiting for season to open here.

I got my volunteer hours in and passed the shooting proficiency test, so I'm good to go on the university property that I hunt.

Thursday;) By the way, I got to hang stands back up at the Raceway for my Tuesday and Thursday night hunts.

Bible_Man 09-29-2009 08:14 PM

Finally saw some today! Only does, but still gets the blood going. My wife and I were out and saw 5 of them...had a slight possibility on one of them, but waited hoping she would turn towards us a little for a better shot. Didn't happen. But, it was great fun. Really anxious to get my first bow kill. Gonna be a cool one in the morning...maybe I'll have a chance.

dubcee 09-30-2009 08:13 AM

Did we get the 2 deer our team has shot in the score card yet?

TX_Hoghunter 09-30-2009 10:12 AM

I don't think they have been entered yet. There is a 10 day time frame, but I think we are ok since they have already been posted here and just not scored.

I didn't post mine in the score thread yet. Like TX said, they have been posted here and I believe the 10 day thing is to prevent people from trying to hold out for a bigger buck. I'm not quite sure if I'm scoring my deer correctly, but if I am its a whopping 33 2/8.

Edit: I just found something that shows how to score deer and some of the questions I had about scoring a 4 point were answered. I think I was skipping some of the circumference measurements because of the lack of points. I'm going to rescore it tomorrow and get it posted up.

Probably are scoring correctly with a fork horn. But hey, that is coming in higher than my 0 so far! And, you are eating well...don't remind me.

My daughter called from work practically demanding venison for dinner tonight. I'm glad she loves it, but she did take most of what I grilled up, lol.
