Everyone hits a dry spell, you'll bounce back.
the weather has kept me in the past 2 nights, well. Tonight it wasn't really the weather, but more of a situation where I need to get some things ready for tomorow's hunts and if I hunted tonight I'd be pressed for time, and if I shot anything I'd completely blow tomorrows trip. Good luck all this weekend. |
well the season is finally here. I'll be out tomorrow bright and early, unless its pouring raining.
|
Josh,
Good luck hunting. Its been slow in my area (northeastern Pa). Large acorn crop this year seems to be keeping deer movement to a minimum. Steady rain and 38 degrees this morning keep me home. Dave Dave |
Hey team, scored on a nice buck this evening. I'll get some pix & stuff up sometime tomorrow. Might go around 100"

Here's the story. This was a buck I'd watched all summer. There was one that was bigger, but I figured if either one gave me a shot, I'd take it. Honestly never expected to see either one during hte season.
About 15 minutes in to the evening sit I spied a small buck feeding on acorns. Then as light was fading I caught a BIG body moving thru the woods. Quickly I saw it was the big 7 that I'd watched all summer (and not seen since august) He fed thru below me, and another buck materialized. This one too was a pretty nice one. I tried doe bleating to get their attention, but with not much luck. They hooked slightly my way & when they hit down wind of a scrape I'd put some deer lure in, they BEE LINED to it. They closed that last distance so quickly it thru me off a little. They were in under me & I was scrambling to look around and see which buck was where. The other buck (I'm thinking he was the compact 10 pt from over the summer) was directly under me, smaller spread, but heavy racked and nice tines. I'm guessing he scored more than the 7. They wanted to come in, but they were very tentative to come into the open woods and past my stand. Finally, big 7 commited, and I drew. The arrow struck home and the buck took just a few hops, in a matter of seconds he was on the ground without covering so much as 25-30 yds. reds10, My dog LOVES it when I get a deer, and I think she senses when I am really happy to get one. Normally her appearances in my deer pics are as she steals a sniff from the side:biggrin: |
Well guys, put a 5 point down this evening. He'll maybe go 50", but the landowner is 80 years old, and told me to shoot the first thing that come into range for him.
|
hell yea bro!!! good looking buck! way to get on the board.
|
Congrats Josh!
|
Congrats Josh and Rybo,
Nice bucks and great pictures. |
Way to go guys! Congratulations on both those nice bucks. It's great to get some numbers up on the board.
Josh, fill us in on the details when you have a chance. Rybo, great story! That's a double heart pounder, to have 2 bucks in on you at the same time. Are we gonna start guessing on the scores before they are posted?? |
because I'm too lazy to type it out again or rehost the pics. :violin:

Hahaa. Congrats to both of you guys!! Their falling like rain for us. Now if we can just get the rest of us into the swing of things.congrats josh that's a fine buck!! Good story rybo.
Ryan. |
Congrats Josh
I'll get my score up soon. |
Congrats to the two of you. I have yet to see a buck this season. Had nice cool weather all last week and only saw a few does. After this week I am off for 21 days of hunting wisconsin and iowa.
|
i wish i ahd 21 days off to hunt...im jealous :happy0001:, boys it will be another week before i get out. i cant wait!
|
way to go Josh and Rybo, it's good to see that there is some good fortune going around. hopefully it will spread to the rest of us. I haven't had a whole lot of time to hunt lately, been busy with work , farming, and we had youth season the weekend before last(no luck there either, we saw a lot, but my son is pickier than I am!, he passed up a really nice 7 pt, pretty surprising for a 10 yr old) I have high expectations for my next trips to the woods, a lot of the crops are being harvested here, giving them a lot less places to hide:cool2:

Had my first opportunity at a small 6 point buck. I let him pass because I have been waiting on a couple of nice bucks. No luck seeing the bigs ones so far. Was out tonight and got skunked. The other day saw 3 does. I have attached a 8 pointer that I just got on one of my trail cameras. Only had one of my trail cameras out. Pulled it today.
|
So did you guys ever post up your scores??
Ryan. |
Mine's entered.
So anyone have any action this weekend? I will be heading to Ohio the next 3 weekends, so I am looking forward to the chance of putting a REALLY nice buck down. |
I made it out saturday in the am and today in the am. Saw 10 deer total sat morning. Saw a little fork horn chasing every doe in sight. I made a slight grunt just to mess around with him and he took off running away lol. He thought he was the big stud till he heard that. Got soaked to the bone this morning and didnt see any deer. And to top it off i got back to the house and saw i broke a pin on my sight. Oh well i got another one put in there and ill make sure its still sighted in tomorrow. I hope everyone else had a good weekend, im really looking foward to next weekend. Hopefully the bucks will be on their feet alot.
|
WOW, as if i didn't have enough confidence in my spot on the public ground that i hunt. I ran into an older guy at the boat ramp last night and he said that in the last 7 years he had arrowed a 193 net 21 pt non typical and a 187 17 pt nontypical. can't wait for the first week of nov. , planning on taking off that week of work unless i go back to nites and i'll hunt the mid day
|
well im hoping to get out this coming up weekend, i been battling that flu thats been going around, now its in my chest, hopefully i can still get out!!! iknow halloween has been magical to me in the past!
|
havent even had time to sit down and score the rack, or even put up the pic in the thread yet. I'll do it tonight after work.
|
Out hunting the past two days. Sat in stand on Monday night for 4 1/2 hours and got skunked. Tuesday night differnet spot, at 5:30 doe came through the swamp and about 3 min later a 4 point was following. He was not chasing her just seemed to be following. I'm off on vac. 5 days in the next two weeks. I've been hunting hard but haven't seen any nice bucks yet. Looking forward to the rut. Off on Friday I'm going to try and stay in the woods most of the day.

Im an idiot
Well i just completly just screwed up this morning. Had a really good buck come in at about 730. 8 or 9 pt, pretty tall, prolly would have scored 120-125. He came in behind me and came to about 15 yards to my right and i was sitting so i couldnt shoot. It looked like he was gonna walk away so i made a little grunt. He looked around and turned and walked around and started walking where he came from. This gave me the chance to slowly stand up and turn around. So i got turned and he walked behind a tree and i drew back. He steped out and i gave him a little "maaa" he stopped. I couldnt believe this but i was calm as could be, i even remembered to make sure the bubble on my sight was level. So i settled my pin and let the arrow fly, right over his back. My heart sunk. I sat there 20 min to collect my thoughts and got down to get my arrow. I thought he was about 25 yards when i shot, i ranged the tree i was in from my arrow and it was 21 yards. There was a little meat and hair on the arrow but im almost 100% sure it was above the spine. Here in a little bit im gonna go look but im sure he'll live. I cant believe i crumbled under pressure like that, but i guess that why i called hunting and not killing. So do you guys think, think he'll be back? Im really doubting it but i wanna hear what you guys think. Im gonna go cry now lol.
|
well hopefully u will fond some more sign, he might be dead though u never know, good luck with ur search though. as far as him coming back, i would say yea he will, maybe in week or 2. ive shot a deer before that i missed a week earlier, same stand and i was using a gun. i know it was the same deer cause of a limp and she was running with 4 other does. well good luck bro and keep us updated. keep ur spirits up!
|
I went out and couldnt find any blood anywhere. Im gonna go do a grid search tomorrow but i think he'll live. We're thinking he might have went on the neighbors property so my uncle is gonna go get permission to look over there. I have to go to work so i cant go look.

Wayne,
Great story, thats a bummer that you missed killing him by a couple of inches. I have been taking my range finder with me the last couple of times out since i've been in different trees. (based on the wind direction). I usually misjudge the distance for shot out to 40 yards. I guess the distance and then us my range finder. Seems like I always think the shot is closer than it really is. I've set my bow up to shot one pin from 0 to 30 yards. It shots about 2 inches high at 20 yards and 2 inches low at 30 yards. My heart goes out to you about that shot. Hofefully you get another chance. Its early and I think the best hunting is yet to come. Dave |
Thanks Dave. I know, judging distance is something i have got to get better at.
|
Yea, that's a heart sinker. After spending all the time and effort. We all make those mistakes. I remember a few years ago where I ranged a deer at 35 yards and overshot it because my mind didn't comprehend that the deer had walked another 15 yards closer to me before I shot. DUH! Just another lesson learned and remember, there will be more chances ahead.
|
well boyz tomorrow afternoon i leave for a 3 day hunt, bad thing its supposed to rain which has me pissed to say the least. i dont mind hunting in the rain as longs as its not pouring. the weather has sucked for me this season, even during spring turkey season...nothing but rain. im gonna pray to the weather gods to give me good day. anyways good luck tou guys this weekend.
|
Crazy story wayne. Sometimes it happens though. I still haven't seen a deer on stand and I've lost track of how many times I've hunted so.
Good luck guys. And I hope the rest of us arrow some good ones. Ryan. |
Yo guys,
Arrowed a great buck this morning. I'm guessing 135 to 145. I just got home. I give me details later. It was agreat morning. |
