MOhunter46 09-19-2009 08:24 AM

Well it dosent have antlers but its a deer. My first deer of the season

my7pointmonster 09-19-2009 01:10 PM

Great job!! Any story on her?

I'll post the story from my trip later tonight. I'm too tired now.

Ryan.

MOhunter46 09-19-2009 01:15 PM

No story really. She came in with another big doe, they both came to a small watering hole. This one gave me a shot opp. at 20 yards and i smoked her. I shot her right in front of my trail camera so who knows, maybe i got the shot on camera

Looking foward to hearing your story from your trip.

reds10ss 09-19-2009 05:33 PM

congrats!!! looks like u put a nice shot on her!

my7pointmonster 09-20-2009 07:51 AM

Dliz checking in as new alt. I'm from northeast Pa. Have done a lot of scouting this year and have a few good bucks on my trail cameras. This is the nicest buck on my trail cameras this year. believe he is in the 140's. Have a couple of other bucks in the high teens.

reds10ss 09-20-2009 05:05 PM

good to have you dliz, tell us more about yourself, and bow setup? and brother....are you ready to win this contest or what!!!! welcome aboard and good luck!

dliz 09-20-2009 05:11 PM

Mike,

Good to hear from you. Last year I shot a great buck with the bow in Pa, he grossed 161 5/8. This year I've done a ton of scouting. One nice 11 and 10, couple of 8's and that real nice buck i have attached. Last year hunted with a mathews, this year I bought a Ross Cardiac. Not sure if I like it better than my Mathews. Can wait till archery starts. Seems like we have a bunch of good guys.

Dave

my7pointmonster 09-20-2009 06:06 PM

Welcome aboard, Dave.

Here's the story of my Maryland trip.

The first night I went to where I shot my buck up on a oak flat on the side of a ridge figured it would be a good spot because I saw deer every time I sat there last year.

Well I didnt see anything there buy my friend went to the top and saw 9.

Then the second morning I went to the bottom about 150 yards from there, and Didn't see anything, my friend hunted the top again and saw 2.

The second evening I went and hunted the front and didn't see anything. Both of my partners saw 2 deer and one saw a bear.

The third morning I went and saw Nothing again In the same bottom as the night before I was hanging and hunting all the sets as I hunted them.

No one got any shooting nothing ever came inside 60 yards for any of them.

So it ended up as about a $250 camping trip.

I'm trying to go down again next saturday by myself, and hunt the morning sleep in the afternoon and hunt in the evening. I'll be trying to kill anything! Sad to say but brown is down because I'm not fond of tag soup. Now I'll eat tag soup if I dont see a good buck but if a doe walks up she's in trouble.

It was a fun trip but the one guy was a no show and we were kinda anticipating him being there because we needed some of his supplies. Next year I'm not relying on anyone PERIOD. We made the best of the situation and it all worked out pretty well. I enjoyed myself and got some good pictures in the one stand.

Now I'm focusing on trying to kill a PA buck. I cant wait till the season opener and I wish I had a few better bucks lined up but I'll make due with what I have been given. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you guys on all this and I did speak with rob about the alt situation and obviously he did take care of the issue.

Ryan.

P.S.
Dave we made the Avatar for the team I'm not sure what page its on but its somewhere around pages 5-9 And again its nice to meet you and glad to have you on the team. Looking forward to having another PA guy on our team! Lets get it done this year and all arrow Giants.

Ryan.

reds10ss 09-20-2009 07:46 PM

ryan, glad you had a good time on your trip man, sucks you didnt get to relase an arrow. but we got time!!! i gotta about 6 days and im in the woods for my opener, so im pumped,. great to have a full team

Yo Team 24,

Any new trail camera pictures. These are two bucks I probably wouldn't pass up in archery. The one with the stickers seems to be really young. Probably 2.5 years old. I would love to pass him up because I think he would be a stud next year. The 10 seems to be a little older. In my area these are pretty respectable bucks. To get a deer over 130 in this area is a real challange. Kind of curiuos what you guys have in mind when it comes to trophy bucks in your area. I saw those trail camera pics from dabowhnter and that one buck was a stud. Ryan,, that one in pittsburgh looks pretty nice also. PJ any pictures of the brut from Ill.

Dave

my7pointmonster 09-21-2009 05:53 PM

Well guys, I got boned at work. and I mean Hard. I work for the next 12 days straight and they're all crappy shifts like 2nd and one shift is 14 hours and theres 2 other 10 hour shifts, so Instead of being able to run to maryland one last time before the PA opener I'm screwed working till next friday till 345 AM. I should be really alive sitting in the treestand, I'll prolly just have the stuff packed in my truck and just sleep in the truck for an hour and head to the stand. MAN Did I ever get screwed!!! Ohh well its money and its hours. I'm looking at one of the mornings hopefully to take my trailcam and set it up. I'm fairly angry at what surprises the schedule had in store for me this morning.

ANNNNYYYYHHHHOOOWWW.

Dave, what part of PA are you from?

Where I'm from if you see brown, lay it down. This creates a MAJOR management problem. A nice solid buck from the Altoona area is like 100 inches. That's a good one, people get horn porn big time. Like they see a scrappy 6 point year and a half, and they are banging away at it. I'm thoroughly disappointed with my fellow sportsmen. I'm looking at around a 120" buck and its a biggen for the area I hunt. I hope to arrow him BIG TIME.

Ryan.

well as far trail cams go i got 3, but my hunting property is a couple hours away so i dont bring the pics back home with me until end of season. they stay up all season and i have my cousin check them and relay to me what we got. as far as bucks that i got targeted one is a nice 8 prolly in the 120's but hes 3-1/2 which he will get passed on. the one that i hope i see is tall 8 and he has some mass...140 for sure only have a few pics of him but he is nice...i seen him last year hot and heavy on a doe trail and i could not get him to stop, i did everything but throw my self on him. the bucks on our property range from 120-150, alot of nice bucks, but we have a few to many does, which we are going to thin out this year, im really hopeful cause i have done my home work this year, my season starts on saturday so i will let u guys know how is goes. here is a pic of the buck i took in 07. never really scored him but he is prolly high 120's maybe 130...he is tall and has some mass

KCMO Cityboy 09-21-2009 06:30 PM

Hey guys, just doing a quick check-in. I hunted all day on 9/15 and didn't see a thing. It was a bit warm and muggy. Talk about a let-down.
A good friend of mine just bought 160 prime acres about 1.5 hrs away and will be closing on the property in about 2 weeks. I'm eager to scope it out. I'll let you know what I see. Probably won't have a chance to hunt again until 10/2.

dliz 09-22-2009 01:36 PM

Ryan,

I live near Hazleton in the northeast part of the state. I agree with you hunting public lands is tough in Pa. Most hunters will shot anything with 6 points. In my area there seems to be less hunting presure over the last several years. I started my scouting this year in Jan. Looked at several different areas this year. I was a good year to scout due to the snow fall in our area. It stayed on the ground for quite a few weeks. I use my gps mark all the trails and beds and then transfer all the information to google earth.

Mike, thats a nice Ohio buck. I have heard good things about Ohio. Have several friends that travel to Slalenski State Forest and do well. Its about a 8 hr drive from my house. Been tempted to try it one of these years.

Clay, good luck hunting. Checking out a new hunting area is always cool.

Dave

my7pointmonster 09-22-2009 04:04 PM

Hmm. Wonder how many hours you are from altoona.

Ryan.

MOhunter46 09-22-2009 06:22 PM

Well guys my last two sits have been the most amazing ive ever had and i havent even release an arrow. Monday morning I had 4 longbeards come out strutting and gobblin like it was spring at 20 yards. Absoutly amazing, ive never seen anything like it in the fall. Then this evening i had 3 bucks come in( about an 70" 8 pt, a fork horn and a spike) and the 8pt and the fork horn were fighting right in front of me at 15 yards. First time ive ever seen something like this so i thought it was pretty cool. BTW, welcome to the team dliz, good luck this season!

my7pointmonster 09-22-2009 07:22 PM

Well dave I'd say your officially welcomed onto the team.

Ryan.

my7pointmonster 09-23-2009 06:25 PM

Wow guys, we haven't heard from some of our guys in a while, Anyone know if they've been on?

Ryan.

pjhunts 09-24-2009 12:54 PM

hey guys, nothing exciting going on around here. still biding my time for another week. I've been working nite shift this last week so haven't done a whole lot. I did manage to hang my last stand yesterday(usually have them hung in august, but wasn't planning on usiing this one, but decided to hang it anyway). When I walked in I found 2 fresh scrapes right next to ezch other and some small rubs, I found a tree and started to clean it out, when I got done I went to get my stand up and heard a buck grunting. He was far enough away I couldn't see him in the brush, but he went up and down the fencerow grunting at me for about 15 minutes. Still nothing super on my trail cams, 140-150 biggest so far, I did realize that I had my camera set on every 30 mins instead of every 30 seconds, oops. That would explain why I didn't get the big guy when I got his 150 " buddy.

MOhunter46 09-25-2009 06:56 AM

Well guys if we could get points for does we would be doing pretty good. Got another one last night. I first saw her at about 60 yards eating the wheat we planted right before the season. She came in to 30 yards and i guess she caught my wind and started getting nervous, then i guess she caught a glimpse of me drawing back and she got really nervous. Well i rushed the shot and spined her. I tried to get another arrow in her but it hit her shoulder and deflected off. So i just climbed down and cut her throut. I wish i would have made a better shot but i got her anyway.

Wayne,

Congrats on another doe. Our season in Pa starts next saturday, I'm excited just thinking about it. Hung my climber a couple of days ago in a spot I hope to see that one big one i posted earlier. That buck seems to a nomad, can not pattern him. He seems to cover several square miles of mountain. Got him on different trail cameras miles away over the last several months. Thats why he big!!!! Have a better idea where his core area is since moving several cameras and getting him on camera a couple of time in several weeks. Had my first experience with a bear ripping one of my trail cameras off a tree. He just broke the brakets off of the back. It still works I just have to put the strap around the camera. It is one of my older 2Meg IR cameras.

Dave

my7pointmonster 09-26-2009 08:21 AM

Great doe man!

I tried to hang my stand yesterday before I had to go to the football game to watch my girlfriend cheer, I got the stand up there and attached it lowered the platform and it was at about a 45 degree angle, the tree just wasn't right for the stand, So I'm gonna find a new tree and hang it in there.

Ryan.

my7pointmonster 09-26-2009 10:55 AM

dabowhunter 09-27-2009 12:57 AM

I was out in Idaho trying to connect on a Bull. I will finally get out to hunt my farm monday. Unless there were tresspassers, no one has hunted it yet. I have a good idea where the big guy travels and will be set up accordingly.

dliz 09-27-2009 03:06 AM

Don,

Good luck hunting on your farm. Looks like you have some great buck to go after.

Dave

reds10ss 09-27-2009 01:07 PM

well my trip was a wash out, i hunted all day saturday in the pouring rain and howling winds, not too mention the thunder and lighting. i did see a few squirrels some turkeys and 1 doe who was well out of range, i couldnt get out this morning cause of another storm blew through. well at least i had fun i was excitied to get back in the woods. i did check the trail cams while i was down there and i got a couple of pics of this buck we named "whacko" this bucks rack is weird lookin, he is main 8 but with some junk growing everywhere...huge body def a 4-1/2........i got my eye on him.

my7pointmonster 09-27-2009 04:17 PM

I liked they I got my eye on him line. Hahaha. Sucks the rain hit you, its hitting us as we speak, I still haven't had a good enough day to which I could go finish hanging my treestand.

Hopefully tomorrow after work I'll be able to.

Ryan.

Dliz
Welcome, looks like you got some slammer PA bucks out in your neck of the woods. Good luck Saturday.

monster10rackstack 09-27-2009 06:46 PM

Sorry guys it took me so long to get here....Its been a crazy month....

rybohunter 09-29-2009 05:10 PM

Hey fella's
Is everyone hunting yet except for us PA guys?
Well I'll actually go hunting tomorrow night, but its doe only.
I got my clothes washing as I type. I may try for a buck this weekend, but typically, I try and stack does early & often because you don't see many big boys during daylight hours before the rut.

my7pointmonster 10-01-2009 08:15 AM

Did someone die? What happened here guys? Not very chatty this week haha.

Ryan.

KCMO Cityboy 10-01-2009 02:19 PM

Maybe something is getting ready to die Ryan! Let's hope so. Good luck to you guys going out this weekend. I'll be out for a Sunday evening hunt, and that's about all for this week.

my7pointmonster 10-01-2009 07:00 PM

I got Saturday all day and no sundays in PA so. But next week i'll get 2 days off so. Good luck guys, Keep in touch.

Ryan.
