i might go out to some some public land on sunday but i got a 3 day weekend coming up, anybody seeing any good movement?

dliz 10-02-2009 05:18 PM

Goodluck to all who are hunting tomorrow. I'll be in my stand by 530 am. All I need is that big one to come within bow range. Wind 6AM from the south, 8AM from SSW. OK wind for my hunting spot. All my scentlok is in selled bags and ready to roll. Looking to stay in stand until 10 AM.

my7pointmonster 10-02-2009 09:02 PM

Well a friend of mine is taking me to a spot I've never been before. And have never even laid eyes on. So I've got the lowest of the low expectations for tomorrow. However the place is rumored to be the best place to see high numbers of deer. And I mean big deer.

On a side note, I got a new block 4x4 pro for $80 its real nice and I really like it.

Good luck guys.

I'll be in touch.

Ryan.

my7pointmonster 10-03-2009 02:22 AM

Well its 615 and here I sit on my friends couch doing nothing, the kid we were going with decided to sleep in. Then when he called at 545 (45 mins late) he suddenly decided he needs to go to the hospital with his girlfriend cause she's got a tummy ache... Man I hate waiting on people...

Ryan.

reds10ss 10-03-2009 07:18 AM

damn that sucks

KCMO Cityboy 10-03-2009 03:07 PM

I'm kinda in the same position as Ryan, going to a place I've never been to. Leaving this evening, waiting for him to get back from a convention in Wichita KS. My friend just closed on this 160 acre property on Thursday. He says last weekend he found a good tree for me to hang a stand in so I'll do that sometime tonight and then hit it early in the morning. He has to leave after the morning hunt but I'll be hanging around all day - yeah! I'll give you guys a report -good or bad.

my7pointmonster 10-03-2009 04:01 PM

Anyone hear from Dliz? I saw a house cat... That's it... Not even anything while I was driving out or anything. What a bummer.

Ryan.

dliz 10-03-2009 04:21 PM

Just got in from my evening hunt. In my stand early saw 2 young doe in the morning. I was getting cramps they were right under my tree for over an hour eating acorns. Evening hunt saw another 2 doe mom and a young one. Did see two buck behind my house on the quad ride back in the morning. Small eight pointer and little four. I'm off monday, going to give it anither shot.

pjhunts 10-03-2009 06:18 PM

Well guys, don't hate me but I Whiffed on a bona fide BOONER tonite. Talk about a night from hell, this was it. MY brother n law and I decided to boat in to some public hunting areas that can't be reached any other way. This was all good until we got grounded on a sand bar forabout an hour. We broke our paddle, but finally made it off. the rest of the water was only 3 feet or less, so it was slow. Anyway got set up in an area I've never hunted. sat there about an hour when I noticed the wind was wrong for the trail i was on so at 5:00 I decided to climb down and move 20 yards closer to the corn field. Get all settled in and I'm about 70 yards off a corn field in what looks like a prime staging area. At 10 til 6 i see this giant buck coming throught the corn. This guy is so big that when he crossed the rows he had to raise his head all the way up and turn it sideways to get through the corn rows. Solid 21 inch inside spread and ball bats for beams. He comes into the woods and starts right towards me then turns to go into the brush at abou 37-38 yards, stops broadside in the only hole there, however there is one @#$%$#@ limb in the way. I tried to tip toe to go over it. no dice, so I squat as low as I can get andcan see the bottom of his vitals. So I put my 30 yrd pin (about 20 feet up) on him and see that I will still hit the leaves on that limb so at hte last second aim a touch lower thinking he will drop into it and shoot. HE DIDNT DROP at all. UHHGG right under him and he's gone. 5 minutes later a 130 inch 8 comes through, then nothing. I did however hear a buttload of grunting, about 7-8 grunts per hour coming from all directions. pretty cool. Anyway it gets dark so I go get my arrow and loose it on the way back to my stand, had to go back aand find it then it started raining, then my boat motor quit about half way to the ramp, trolling motor is dead and broken paddle. get stuck on the sandbar again!!! then wouldn't you know it the game warden was at the ramp waiting on us. He was pretty nice though, he also confirmed the story of a 24 pt, with 3 droptines running the public ground in that area. Oh what a nite!

dliz 10-04-2009 05:37 AM

PJ,

That is an aswesome story. Sounds like a hard spot to get to but well worth it. With a buck like that sounds like you'll be going back. 24"s with drop tines thats a buck of a lifetime.

my7pointmonster 10-04-2009 07:45 AM

Wow!!! Awesome stuff pj! Its good to hear from you bud. Its crazy how they seem to hangout in the only spot you can't kill them... It'll be alright. Get back in there and get after him again!! Let's get that big boy!!

If you need help I'm sure a few of us can get off for about a week for a central illinois hunt ;) good luck and go kill that buck!!!

Ryan.

reds10ss 10-04-2009 07:46 AM

hell of a story man, dont give up, u got all season.

rybohunter 10-04-2009 08:28 AM

wow pj, that is an adventure

ryan, sorry to hear about your plans falling thru.
ALWAYS try to have a back up. I hate having to trust people.

As for me I took a doe 30 minutes into my opening morning.
The evening sit I was hopeful of catching a nice buck, but only some turkeys, a half dozen does, and a nice red fox came thru.

my7pointmonster 10-04-2009 09:09 AM

Congrats rybo!! Let's see some pictures if you've got em.

Ryan.

dliz 10-04-2009 11:23 AM

Congrats rybo on that doe. Just finished hanging a stand in the area I arrowed that big buck last year. I was going to use my climber but decided because of the long walk to this spot i'd plut up a hang on. I did not want to be all sweated up carring everthing up a mountain into this spot. I am getting older. I forgot how much work it is to put up one of those hang-ons by yourself. Used amersteps and linemens belt. After screwing in all those steps in and hanging onto the tree my legs were shaking after finishing. I didn't hunt this spot until the rut last year, I may give it a shot once or twice before the rut. It a great spot with a west wind.

my7pointmonster 10-04-2009 12:02 PM

Its no fun to hang stands by yourself thats for dang sure, especially if you don't have a linemens belt. I want to go try to get permission at the farm across the road from the farm I've been hunting on but I don't really have much energy today, so today for me will just be a lazy day.

Ryan.

my7pointmonster 10-04-2009 12:53 PM

Here is a post I did earlier today, I hope you guys like it. Should be helpful. Just check it out if you want to.

MOhunter46 10-07-2009 05:36 AM

Sorry i havent posting much guys. Through out high school i just worked in the summers, now i got a full time job and ive come to the realization that working sucks and i really havent had the time to hunt much and i havent really felt like hunting.I did see a pretty good 8 pt last week so thats kinda got my hopes up. Ill be out this weekend tho, good luck to everyone!

my7pointmonster 10-07-2009 07:47 AM

Is this your first year outta school Mo? And yes. It really sucks. That's why I'm going back in january.

Ryan.

my7pointmonster 10-07-2009 08:30 PM

I managed to get permission to hunt the farm across from the farm I got permission on earlier in the year. Its around the same size, and its where the deer bed.... And I'm 100% sure about that. So I should be on an amazing transition because I can park closer to my spots. Hope all is well with you guys and good luck!!

Ryan.

dliz 10-09-2009 05:02 PM

Hunted Monday and saw one doe and one three point. Seems to be very slow in my area due the the heavy acorn crop. My buddy who owns a butcher shop says this is his slowest year ever. Hunted yesturday and saw just one doe. I'm going to give it heck tomorrow morning again.

reds10ss 10-12-2009 08:49 AM

well guys got home late last night from my weekend hunt. i seen a total of 3 deer all on my last night...2 does and a buck. hate to say it but i passed on the buck, he was a 6 but he had some beam length, tines were small. i decided to pass on him cause i know there is better. it still was a fun hunt he was only 10 yards from me. it took him 20 mins. to close about a 60 yard distance between me and when i fist saw him. he would take a few steps and stop. i gotta 4 sraight days starting october 30 that i will be hunting.
How was everyones weekend, anybody see any movement? just a few rubs and scarpes is all ive seen so far here in ohio.

KCMO Cityboy 10-12-2009 09:24 AM

Hey guys. Not much to report from Kansas City. Was out Saturday evening on public land and it was a nice 36 degrees - but didn't see anything again. The rub near my stand hasn't been hit for a while so I'm thinking of checking for trails this coming Saturday and resetting at least one stand. There was a dead coyote, just a pile of bones, 20 yds in front of my stand so I'm wondering if someone hopped up in my stand and popped him. I'm not familiar with this new place so it's really difficult to figure out, but I see plenty of tracks.
I have 4 trail cams set out at my friends new property. My plans are to go check them on the 25th before the chasing begins. Good luck guys.

rybohunter 10-12-2009 10:24 AM

Weekend hunts were decent, I'm at least seeing deer almost every sit. No shooter bucks though, and the only does that seem to offer me shots are the fawns.
Had a good morning today, saw 5 bucks but they were all really small.

Leaving soon for the evening sit.

KCMO Cityboy 10-14-2009 10:08 AM

Okay guys, what's everyone doing this weekend? Trying anything different?
I plan to go out to the public land on Sat morn, hunt til about 10 then search for a couple of new treestand locations. Just, didn't get the traffic (yet). I hate to move them now, but if I find some hot trails, then it will probably pay off later when the chasing begins.

my7pointmonster 10-15-2009 08:25 PM

I'm 0 for 10....... I'm extremely well known for Tagging out on the First week. Karma is a ***** I guess. not much to say... Kinda feelin down bigtime right now. I'll catch up with you guys later in the week.... OHH and its Snowing. With all the leaves on the trees too. I just hope we don't lose too many trees tonight... or tomorrow... Actually its going to snow from friday to sunday.

Ryan.

MOhunter46 10-16-2009 08:33 AM

Dang Ryan, sorry to hear about your bad luck. Not really sure what to tell ya, sounds like your doing everything right, it just sounds like bad luck. Well ill be out some this weekend but i think im gonna lay off a little till the rut. I hung a new stand this weekend it a spot that looks promising, so we'll see how that turns out. Good luck to everyone this weekend.

KCMO Cityboy 10-16-2009 09:21 AM

Yea, Ryan that's really frustrating, but look at it this way. As captain of our team you have made me feel better with my 0 for 3 outings! I'm sure it will pick up. For me, I've typically gotten my deer during the last 2 weeks of October - before the rut.
Good luck guys.
