Had a busy but fun weekend. Saturday spent the whole day smoking some pig for my son's 1st birthdayand then I cleared trails and planted in my food plot, worked on my tractor (water in my tranny), and entertained guests.

not too bad here, got my bow tuned up this weekend.. string loop was bad. then I got my final stand hung and brushed out and I think I got it figured out where I am sitting opening weekend, although after Sunday night I may change my mind.
the first spot is a small two acre chunk of trees in the middle of roughly 25 acres of corn and oats fields and the deer move across the road both night and morning and by the trails there, there is a lot of deer moving thru.
The second spot is off a alfalfa field that I checke dout the other night and saw a few small bucks and another that I couldnt get a real good look at but he was probably about 125, which I will not shoot. I am setting my standards to about 130 even tho I will only have weekends to hunt this year.
peakrut... I text and last year when I was on the 2006 champion team () a bunch of us had each others numbers to call or text after we got a deer or just for the heck of it. if anyone is interested we should get a pm sent around or something for us to put our real name on and number.. just an idea

alright so what is everyone shooting for this year? one particular deer? whatever comes your way? how many acres do ya'll hunt and what type of terrain is it?

as I said for me to shoot its gotta be 130 or so, plus as many does as I can whack. I hunt 240 acres of private land owned by my Grandpa and Uncle. We have mixed fields and swamps and mixed patches of hardwood ridges and it seems to host a few dandy bucks every year.. getting them is the hard part... you can see my last two bucks on the last two contests scorecards if anyone is interested.
take it easy,
Ryan

One more weekend of goat chasing for me (sheez....seems like the Dakotas are the place to be this year, eh?). Then, I'll be gearing up for elk and the english invasion. I have some brits and a few yanks from Illinios coming for the last week of our Colorado archery season (Ya'll are welcome to come too). Trust me, I have plenty of deer hunting in me this season. I'll do my very best to wack a good one.

Peak, my camospace link is with my signature. I have a ton of recent/old photos posted there. I'm still in the process of uploading everything I have. Take a peek and give me your opinion...I take criticise well.

Gary, Knock the heck out of them in KY!

How is everyone's week going? Now that most of my pears are gone I doubt I'll be seeing the deer coming down until the chestnuts fall so I don't think I'll get another glimpse of that big guy. I'm going to plant my garden in turnip greens and sugar beets for the winter but ATM my 8N tractor is down until I can get the tranny flushed and refilled. I also need to work on finding some new hunting grounds around here. I don't have any decent morning stands and need to get access to something for the AM. I'd also like to find some areas that are more agricultural, which is hard in this mountainous area. To be honest Beagle I'm gunning for anything 100" or better. We don't have a load of 125" deer walking around like the midwest. I won't shoot a dink but usually try for something 14" inside and some length on tines.

Well have been busy with college and hockey, but did manage to make it out to 2 farms that i will be hunting this year. One is a 250 acre farm that has one major field that is planted in small pines, at the bottom of the hill is some pears and apples and a small spring, i think the early weeks im going to setup there. The other is well over 400 acres and is mainly fields planted with soy, this is one of my better chances for a big guy while at school. When i go home on free weekends i will be hunting some of the suburbs in allegheny and westmoreland counties in SW PA by pittsburgh.... we have some absolute pigs around those areas...

I will be shooting a Hoyt viper tech compound

I plan on shooting a buck that i will put on the wall, so over 120" atleast til late in the season and or gun season....

I am just hoping to see some colder temps this yr for the season and hopefully more rutting activity, last year they started to scrape then it got very warm and seemed to slow everything down and didnt see any chasing at all, just some roaming for a day or 2.... the funny thing is i was hunting the same stand where in yrs past i was seeing sometimes 7 different bucks a day running does...
