RE: Official Team Heart Stoppers Thread (1)
had an awesome mornign. only problem was that i had 2 does bedded only 15 yards from my stand. so i had to sit till they got up and walked off. no shot on them. then had a little 8 pointer show up outta nowhere. to little. then as i'm getting ready to get down i had 2 more does walk in and caught me try to get down. if i hadn't been late for work i would have had one of them. all of this within less than 2 hours. acorns and paw paws are falling and the deer are eating good.

Tough day of hunting, not much going on this morning and this afternoon, went out (even with 80 degree weather) Wind was supposed to be NE but was blowing hard SW, probably shoulda just went home but stayed, thinking the wind was gonna change, (it did, finally blew east as I was walking back to the truck) but during hunting, after the first hour or so, it decided to swirl, one minute it was north, next minute south then it was, well you get the picture.
Saw a couple bucks and a fawn, but what made the nite fun was walking back to the truck (wind in my face) I see a nice looking buck, 10 pointer? heading towards my truck, so I sneak down there the best I could = me walking slowly, I was parked between two pine tree rows, the farm road runs perpendicular to where i was parked, then 5 yards past that is the neighbors hay field. Well, not seeing the buck on our side, i take a peak through the hedgerow, and WHOOPs, theres the buck about 25-30 yards off....figuring the buck might be over there, being the neighbors and all, I left my bow back at the truck....nice 17-18" 11 pointer, real good mass, might poke into the 130's, and 15 yards past that buck was a nice 8 pointer about the same width but not the mass. So, there i sit (or squat) and watching the buck through the binocs (getting pretty dark) and he works his way over to me, got within about 15 yards, before the land owner came down the road and spooked them off.......that was pretty cool... nice buck like that, on the ground, that close, and he had no clue I was there. |

yea i know what ya mean last year i got within 10 yards of a couple of young bucks. it was awesome. i had not intentions of shooting them but just having them that close was like ...wow

Only 5 more days!
checked the cameras and moved a few stands (the trees they were in were either blown over or had a busted off limb hanging over them) Can't wait for Saturday to get here! |
RE: Official Team Heart Stoppers Thread (1)
Good luck guys. my past 2 days have been crap. nothing moving with these warmer temps coming in. mornings are to foggy are the deer are staying bedded down almost all day.

No luck for me guys. Ended up coming home yesterday. Only went out twice (up too late Saturday night bsing around the fire for morning hunt. It was very warm and even more humid. Dripping wet by time I'd get up in my climber. Was winded one evening. It was behind some real thick stuff so don't know what it was. Being new to this and hunting public land was a real challenge. I was in way over my head and didn't really fell like I had a chance. I had a GREAT time and am glad I went. With more experience I'd like to do it again.
