I was out this morning and had a nice 6 point (for this area)within 10 FEET of my ground blind. Unfortunately, it was still about 20 minutes until legal hunting time. He was so close I could hear him breathing. He came next to the blind and stopped. He started looking around and sniffing. Then he stomped twice and walked off to the woods. No blowing. No tail up. I thought for sure he would wind me because I was on the ground and he was so stinkin' close (and I don't use any of those fancy sprays).

ya, i almost never try to stop a deer to shoot it. the more mature, the more likely he will bolt in my experience, especially in highly pressured areas. a great way to practice moving shots is to use an old basketball and have someone roll it by you and shoot at it. a hillside works best

thanks guys, my deer is in the cooler about 45 min. north of me and I have not got a call yet to pick him up, so no
score. Next time I go away I will take a tape with. Hopefully it is not a problem to get my score in a couple days.
maybe I will pm Rob and find out.

Congrats on the buck CJ. I took a little button last night. Now that there's some meat in the freezer I can concentrate on the big boys. This week we are going to have some cold weather, that will probably get them on their feet looking for love and a fight. Good luck everyone.

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but here in Western NY, it is a no-go day. It is rainy, windy and cold. I am all for the cold, but the rest, I could do without. It looks like we could get our first snow today or tomorrow. That is a good sign. I have seen deer every sit except one (and that was a nice sunny afternoon with a clear moonlit nightcoming after). Lots of season left. Good luck to all!

Gundeck...I gave up on Saturday after sitting in it until noon. Even with rain gear and a tree unbrella I was soaked to the bone because it was raining sidewaysin Gainesville....plus the winds...it sucked! I'll be out later Saturday, Sunday plusI have Monday off...I'm hoping for better weather!

Hey guys, I hit a hog tonite. Got good blood, decided to back out after trailing about 200 yrds. I think he has 14 pts and should go around 170" I'm going back in the morning to look again. Sure hopes he lays down and expires. I'll update tomorrow, hopefully I can get some sleep tonite, been sick all week!

Wow, this is not looking good. Two reports of buck down and still no scores. I had a really nice 8 pt less than 20 yards from my blind on Friday. Unfortunately, it was about 15 minutes after legal shooting time. Well, at least I know he is still around!

I got a small doe on Sunday. I've seen a few nice bucks but nothing in shooting range. This is my last chance this weekend. Season ends the 14th.

Buck down guys. Shot him about 4:00 on Nov 8th and recovered him around 11:00 a.m. on the 9th. I'm working on getting the pictures loaded on here and I've got some scoring questions for ya. He has a split G3. He's a 10 point but the one little crab claw part doesn't reach an inch so tech. a 9 pointer. I'm guessing will score a little over a hundred. Bare with me here on the pics.

RE: Official Team The Rack Pack Thread (7)

Well here he is 19 hours after the shot. I'll need some help under standing the scoring. I have everything measured. When do you add in the spread? He has a second G3 on the Right side so how does that score?

Wykoff checking in.

I knew it was going to be a good weekend but I had no idea what was about to happen. Saturday morning couldn't come early enough. I went to the same stand as always. This has been a great stand with 6 wall hangers taken in the last 4 years. I had a small 6 pt. come through at 6:45, then nothing until 9:15 I look to my right and there he was broadside at 30 yds. I WISH I HAD MY BOW. Thats right I took him with the 12 gauge. He has 14pt., 18 4/8 inch spread, weighted 262, and scored a 153". I still have my buck tag because we can party hunt in MN. I believe that I am eleminated from entering any deer for this team but if you know more let me know. I also don't know if I can put the picture on this thread, but you will be able to find it in team 11 gun hunters. Good luck to all of you and congrats on the deer taken.

RE: Official Team The Rack Pack Thread (7)

Hi guys, just got back from Ill. for the last ten days. Sounds like every one had a fun week. I got the score back from the taxidermistand he said my buck is a 105 but I am not sure if he did it right so I will post score when a get it back. I am just getting a European mount. I have to say this past week in ILL. was the most fun in the woods I have every had. I saw more bucks in ten days then I have seen my entire life. Say six shooters ranging from 120-170 inch. Sat. morning I was walking a CRP field and spotted two does bedded down on the side of a hill, One was a shooter so I started a sneek attack :Dwind was perfect. So I was on the edge just over top of them and a Hot doe run's by and there is a 6 pointer and a little 4 on her behind. So my attention turns to them and as I am watching them I think I bet more bucks will be following, and when I take my glasses down there standing 43 yards to my right is a 135-145 ten point. I almost passed out[8D] He turns and I go to full draw. then he starts to walk right at me. The only shot I could take is a neck shot and I am not very comfortable with that.
by now he is 30 yards right in front of me and my knees are shaking. TURN I am thinking, know he is quartering
towards me hard and then I fell the wind on the back of my neck[:@] It swirled the buck blows and is out of my life
forever. One of the best experience's hunting in my life.

Great job so far guys. I hate to say it but I missed a 150" yesterday morning. He came in on a string, 20 yards and I got hair and fat on my arrow. I went home and shot my bow and it was shooting 5" high. Somehow I knocked the sight all the way down and thats what caused the miss. Still doesn't make it suck any less though.

RE: Official Team The Rack Pack Thread (7)

congrats guys on your success! And sorry about the miss, it happens to everyone sooner or later. I'm still optimistic of getting a good one, been seeing some dandies on the public ground I hunt. As far as i can tell there are 3, maybe 4 bucks over 160 there. They just don't move much during the daylight. The buck movement around my house has picked up a ton too. I got 14 different bucks on the trail cameras in my food plots this last week. The biggest around 150

Drew on a nice six point two nights ago but never got a good angle for the shot. Hopefully he wanders out again tonight or tomorrow. It will all turn to crap on Saturday as shotgun opens here. (Usually sounds like WWII around here for the first two hours.)

RE: Official Team The Rack Pack Thread (7)

Thanks gundeck

He is my biggest to date. I am going out this weekend bowhunting and I hope to take a doe, but I still have a buck tag just burning a hole in my pocket!!!!!!! There will be a ton of hunters on the property next to us so I should see something. The reports are coming in and MN is way down on their harvest, to much corn still in, bad weather, and poor shooting. There has been a lot of monsters shot this year, mostly by kids and some deer going over 200 inches. A 14 year old shot a 206 typical less than 15 miles from where I hunt. Talk about setting the bar a little to high next year. There were no big ones shot on the neighbors so I to find the one that was fighting with mine. He had 8 of his 14 pts chipped or broken.

Good luck to everyone.

Nice buck Pete...I am hoping to get out tomorrow or Sunday. Maybe I'll hunt the extended bow season after all. I gotta get more than 1 doe this year!

RE: Official Team The Rack Pack Thread (7)

Holy Crap

I had him at 45 yds this weekend. It is the one I missedquite a fewtimes last year with the shot gun it was way beyond Buck Fever. He has put on some mass I think he will go 170". I couldn't get a shot and then I spoked thedoe that was with him. That is my 3rd encounter with him and it never gets old, I just want one more chance. There shouldn't be a lot of people hunting in the area and I am going back in two weeks, but it is muzzleloader time and I am not going to let what happened on sunday happen again!

Good Luck to you all!
