Rammer good luck mate! Hope you guys get into the elk.. What part of Idaho you hunting? what zone?

Shed - We never got into Idaho to hunt. The bulls in Montana were pretty silent until Wednesday. One of the three guys that had Montana tags tagged himself a raghorn 5x3 on Sunday evening. Wednesday at noon we got a big bull fired up, and we end up chasing him and his cows up the mountain and I worked him to 34 yards for my buddy and he grazed right over the bulls back. When I say BIG BULL, he was a 7x7.....That was the first bull I had ever called in, and would have been my buddies first archery elk. To say we were disappointed was an understatement. We end up working that same bull againThursday nite, had him around 40 yards and he never presented a shot opportunity. I just got home after 22 hours of non-stop driving. I'm going to take myself a short nap, and head out to check my trail cameras and hang a few more treestands.

first night out produced nothing much but a good time. I saw a doe and her 2 fawns. she busted me though, i havent been busted in a really really long time, I think it was my thermacell, I have never ever used one before tonight. they say it is scentless, I can pick up the scent of it burning and she came in down range and as soon as she came into me, bamm busted. NO MOSQUITOES Though, so it does work that way. I have been hunting with out the thermacell for 15+ years, It will never come out in the woods with me again.

Opener produced nothing. It rained almost all saturday and was raining when I left the woods this morning. We had 10 guys total in our camp and nobody put anything down. My brother got sick and left before the hunt on saturday morning. 2 of my buddies's grandma also fell ill and had to be hospitalized. She was put on respirator so we lost another 4-5 guys by saturday night. Probably the most miserable opener ever but hey, coulda been worse. We all made it back in one piece so all is good-nuf.

Hey everyone, Opening weekend here in MN was more suited for Duck hunting. I didn't see any Deer while hunting, One of my Brothers saw a four pointer opening morning, and my step son had a Doe 20 yards from him that he was getting ready to draw on, when a Raccoon decided to start chattering. The Doe got nervous and bolted, so my step son took his frustratoins out on the Raccoon, them Rage broadheads do some major damage.
Well I have to work Monday and Tuesday, then I will be back at Wednesday morning. I hope everyone had a safe weekend, and if you had any luck ,lets get some pictures posted.

Good luck, Cliff

Rammer, dang man sounds like you were definately onto a great bull! Sorry you didnt get one yourself, but still it sounds like you had a good time. Here the elk are just starting to really act like I hoped they would since Rybo is coming out Friday to elk hunt with me for a week. I feel like NOW starting this evening after what I witnessed this weekend that I will start calling. I have soley been trying to ambush elk up to this point. I had a big bull move into one of the herds I have been hunting, I watched him last night for the first time.

My whitetail hunting was really slow this weekend, 2 does Sat morning and 4 does Sat evening was it. Sunday morning 2 does ...then I did see one loan buck at mid day while moving a stand. The elk got fired up last night before dark but all I could do was watch from a distant whitetail stand, I saw 6 does last night.. VERY little big buck movement this weekend, combination of full moon and HOT days.. is my guess.

I am gonna hunt a great spot tonight that the big bull took his cows into this morning, I put them to bed before work. Any bull is gonna get it tonight if the opportunity presents itself, I want to spend all my time while Ryan is here trying to get him a bull.

Good luck guys! All of you that got out on your opening days, I am glad to see so many of us hunting..

Thermacell.. I always wondered about that burn.. scent etc..

Really Dry here and HOT .. so the skeeters are not too bad.. Dangerously dry though for fires.. We need a rain or two.. suppose to get really hot till Thursday here then cool off dramatically.. should be great ELK hunting next week when I am off with Ryan!

Hope to drill a buck or bull this month.. been hunting very hard and sooner or later a big whitetail is gonna show himself..

peace

Default The buck I was after is dead

Yesterday...myneighbor shot the buck I had been targeting for this Fall. I had seen this bucka few times over the past month once last year while hunting. It sucks for me that this buck is gone but I am happy for him as he is a good guy...his first bow buck too!

160 inches gross 8-pointer
