I really like the middle yellow star where the two blocks of timber meet eachother. It looks like a great pinch point as well as it appears that the southeast block of timber probably has a low valley running directly towards that yellow star. I'm guessing your wind will usually come from the west to northwest during season? With that, I would just cheat the stand a little south in that pinch point. Although it may not be the case right now, but when the chase phase kicks in, that's where I would definately have my stand. Just my two cents.

Good luck!!

Here is one piece that I am hunting this year. The red dot is where I saw a really big ten point in late june that was already 130". I saw him two days in a row but havent' seen him since. The green dot is where I have a stand right now that I used for early season, and there were around 10-15 deer every night in the alfalfa field but now that the cornfields are picked the deer are hitting them more often. The yellow dot is where I Have a camera up right now. there is like 20 large rubs in this little spot by the river from last year. I think that when the rut gets closer this could be a really productive spot as I see a lot of does coming from this area because I think there is a major doe bedding area somewhere down there. The blue arrows are the normal wind direction during season. Any ideas on where I should hunt? I have a few thoughts but I would like to hear what everyone has to say about it.

The river or stream looks to be pretty good sized, maybe you could find a good crossing. I like the tree line on the side of the feild by where you saw that buck.

Well, I sat in the stand last night for 3 hours... Didn't see squat. Well, except for a bunch of birds, a turkey, squirrels, and some coons. I will be going sometime tomorrow with the chainsaw to clear up some trails. I can't put off doing that any longer. I need to start seeing some more action. This is the slowest start that I have ever had down on this property. I would have seen probably 15-20 deer by this time last year! Hopefully things will cool off next week. If it does that, and I open up some more trails, things will get better I suspect.

Good luck everyone else!

Well guys i got out again this morning for the first time since Sunday night and had some less then favorable results. The only animals i saw were some chipmunks and a few ducks in the pond on the way out. Them temps were cooler but the deer were just not moving. My buddy was hunting a couple miles away and he didn't see anything either. That makes my season total 27 deer on 14 hunts. 12 does, 12 fawns and 3 bucks. Ill be going out again tonight.

Hey guys, just getting in from the evening. It was rather slow for awhile, until i noticed some cornstalks moving around to my left at about 6:45. I watched them with my binos for awhile but couldn't tell what was going on. After a few more minutes i glanced over again just in time to catch the ass end of a deer running away through the corn. I couldn't see the head, but the sound of that deer hitting the ground and knocking over cornstalks made me sure it was a buck, and a big one at that. The wind had shifted in that direction a bit and i think he winded me, but im not sure. He didnt snort or anything as he left and he stopped running once he hit the woods. About five minutes later i spotted a button buck cruising in between the cornfields and that was about all for the evening.I'll be going back to that stand in the morning.

That gives me a total of 29 deer on 15 hunts, 12 does, 12 fawns, 5 bucks.

I was out yesterday, sat in a stand for 6 hours and saw nothing but 1 squirrel and a bluejay. I think it's still to warm up here in Iowa, so far since season has started I've seen a couple of does right after legal shooting light.

Have hunter safety course with the grandson this weekend, might try and get out for a couple hours before dark.
