Forgot to mention my taxidermist called to say the skull measured out at 20 4/16 green so I guess this qualifies for B&C Awards book. Too bad I wasn't bold enough to take him with a bow to get into the P&Y permanent book. Next time.

Went out with my son tonight. This is his first season bow hunting. I saw 7 does and 1 small buck and 30 turkey. My son saw 4 including one with spots that stopped at 5 yrds. I asked why he didn't shoot it. his response "it still had spots". I still think he should have shot it, being his first deer with a bow but maybe next time. Seasons looking good. Good luck and congrats on the bear skull.

Well saturday night was about the worst feeling I have ever had in my life. I shot a big old doe at 40 yards and I watched the arrow hit her good in the heart. We had an amazing blood trail. Then she made it to this thick stuff that we could even walk through and we never found anymore blood. She could of been laying 6 inches from us and we would of never found her. Out of about 35 deer or so I have shot this is the first one I have ever lost. I don't care if it was just a doe but I know she is dead and just makes me sick that I couldn't find her. I know that it happens and now I know the feeling. Hope you guys are having better luck.

Hey guys....just checking in. The season's been open for two weeks, but the weather has been so hot and the school work so intense that I've only made it out one time. Rest assured, that will be changing shortly. The weather looks like it is on its final slide to the cooler temps and with that comes a drive from within that will get me in the woods at every free moment.

How's everyone else doing?

Season oped on Sat and I went sat a.m. and wasnt close to anything. Saw 8 does and 2 bucks 100 yards off. Weather is still to warm for them to move buta cold front is rolling in now.

Things going as planned. Close but no cigar yet. Could have ventilated a doe but held off because she was accompanied by 6 other does. Working a new prop. and figuring out the travel areas, bedding and feeding areas.

Hey guyz I'm still with ya. Been a little busy lately and the weather has just been horribly hott here in nebraska. I recently went out to put up the cameras and found a couple good rub lines that should produce some nice bucks I'll know tomorrow when I go to check them. Anyway good luck to all and let's get some inchs up on the board.

Its still really hot here in Ohio. In the 80s today. Cold front coming Thursday. Killed a tree branch last week on an evening hunt. Gotta get those misses out early. :D

Checking in as well. Won't be getting serious about stalking bucks until Halloween and the chasing phase of the rut. Spent the past weekend checking trail cameras and doe hunting. Arrowed two does in 30 minutes on Friday evening as I had three different family groups come by my stand.

Trail cameras are showing three eight pointers moving around at night though none are huge. Probably 2 1/2 year old bucks.

Good Luck everyone.

Gerry

Thanks guys! I've gotten one doe and one buck on the ground, both in PA. Now I'm focusing on a NY buck. I've got a heavy horned 9 pointer running around on the property I hunt in NY, and I'm hoping I run into him soon.

Anyone else having any luck?

I went out today after work to see if I could find any rubs/scraps because i have seen NOTHING thus far. To my surprise I found 15 or so rubs and over 30 scrapes in a 30 acre chunk of woods!!! I think it may be time to start hunting some of my rut stands. I cant wait.

Hey guys just checking in from nebraska. Went out tuesday night before the storms hit here in nebraska and saw two young bucks at about 10 yards. Thursday night i sat in the stand I killed my buck in last year and had a very eventful sit. Had 10 doe or so with in 10 yards of my stand and saw over twenty in that little block of timber. After dark when I was getting ready to get down I saw a mature buck at 40 yards, " way to late to do anything about it".

The snow got them on their feet and sweet november is just around the corner. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE>

Matt

well guyz as some of you may have saw my brother shot my deer I have been scouting for the past week or so. I have been sitting in the same stand for a few days and saw a buck at 45 yards in some brush that had a good rack on him. When I got out of the stand I drove across the highway to see what came out on the other alphalpha corner and this tall white racked deer was out there with some doe's next to the corn. That was wednesday night, thursday night the same thing happened but with another nice 140 inch buck, friday night he was there again. I had a stand hung about 60 yards south of where he was coming out of the trees. On saturday I was going to sit in the corn and wait for him. When it came time to go out my brother mitch asked me " where are you going to sit tonight" and I told him the corn. When we walked out the door I noticed the wind was out of the west and I changed my mind and said you sit in the corn, I'm taking the stand. I figured he would come out on the east field tonight.' Here is the pic , the deer came out on the corn one more time, and mitch made a 33 yard shot on him.
167 1/8 gross and 162 net.

Hey guys, I have been seeing a lot of rutting activity but, no shooters yet. The deer tonight never really came out of the woods so I think I might try to get a little closer to their beds. At least the weather now in the midwest is normal for this time of year.

W9ARcher 11-13-2008 07:04 PM

RE: Official Team 5 Thread

Just got back from hunting 5 days in NW Wisconsin and nothing to show for the effort. Saw a shooter at 50 yards, nose to the ground but couldn't draw him in. Saw 5 does from that same stand but nothing close enough. Had another big doe sprint into the clearing I was covering and the 10 pointer chasing her stayed back at 60yards while she ate apples. After 5 minutes, the doe headed in a different direction and the buck veared off after her away from me.

Had all kinds of weather from sunny and warm to freezing (teens) pluswindy (30 mph) to snow and sleet then fog to close out the hunting trip. At least I saw deer every morning and evening as I changed stands mid day.

Also hunted Halloween weekend but my time in the woods was sparse. As a boy scout leader, I was introducing bow hunting to 7 scouts that never hunted before. Spent most of the 3 day weekend setting them up in stands and making sure they all had a good time. Everyone really enjoyed themselves so that weekend was a huge success, better than shooting a deer myself.

So the early archery season is over for me with two does in the freezer. Hope to get out for the late season since I'm now seasoned for hunting the
snow and cold.

Good Luck,
Gerry

RE: Official Team 5 Thread

Well, I went to my best treestand location nested in a mountain about 3/4's a mile hike from the house. I got there well before light, set up scent on towel clothes 50 yards from my stand in different directions and set it up so that it led right under my stand, little did I know that when crossing the creek you have to cross to get to my stand... I lost my release! So when I realized what had happened it was getting light. I figured, well i'll take a shot under 15 yards. At 7:30 a MONSTER 3X3 came down the trail unaware me. I knew he was coming to an opening so I drew, he walked and stopped frontal at 5 yards! I would slip an arrow in with my release, but I wansn't confident in a frontal finger shooting. I waited, the buck kept smelling towels, now at 20 yards, I needed to undraw... He was stopping and I was going to try the shot once I took a second break then could draw again... However, as I was undrawing my fingers slipped and the arrow hit a rock breaking into 4 pieces, and the buck was gone! I RUINED WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN MY ONLY CHANCE!
Anyway, thats my story.

Morgan.
