I will introduce myself...

My name is Adam I live in Western Michigan, Pentwater to be exact, 26 years old, hunt a private orchard/farm as of this past sunday!!! and some state land... I am pumped for this bow season since it has been a few tough years of very little bowhunting, especially last year with buying our first home and having the baby....along with other issues of not having the old familiar haunts to deer hunt and learning state land....acquiring the farm last weekend really gave me a boost.

I suppose to expand on my introduction, I am the Proud father of Ally who is 6 in 2 weeks and of Avery my 15 MO big guy and have a beautiful wife Kristy.

Let's get checked in and think of a Team Name and find out who is interested in the Captains Position.

For Team Name I like Tree Sharks (the Ultimate Predator)

I'll let you guys pick the Captain.. I can only get on at Nightbut I docheck in virtually every night for an hour or so.

The Captain has to be an active member. I encourage every team mate to get on as often as they can, it's the interaction that makes this fun!

Welcome IowaBob..Glad to have you aboard. It is a lot of fun to interact with the other Team-mates hunting so many differnt areas.

I was out tonight getting some of my yearly permissions and landed a new farm that has at least one monster on! Seen him the other night. The owner says there are plenty more, but I'll have some company on this piece as I don't have sole permission..but thats ok..I'll go where the others won't!

Now we need get some of these others checked in...I'll PM them!

Howdy to all. I've been checking the forum every day for the teams to be posted and the one day this week I don't he gets them started.

By my handle you can all guess I'm Dave. I'll be hunting in the Baltimore Area of Maryland as well as the Eastern Shore and will make my first trek to a buddy's place in Wisconsin to hunt private land. I've seen GR8atta2d before in some of the threads but I'm not familiar with the rest of you guys.

I was team captain last year and am not sure if I would like to throw my hat in the ring. At times it was difficult to get guys to check in and some rarely even tried to be part. Rest assured I'll be in here as often as possible. My season starts Sept 15 here and will be in Wisconsin Oct 30.

I hope that all of you are having a great summer and have been getting prepped for this year.

So, I'll start off with a question. I've decided to purchase a pair of good binoculars this year. In the past I've been using a pair of Tasco 8X21's and think they lack the light gathering ability and field of view I'd like. I went today and looked at Bushnell, Simmons and Nikon 8X36, 10X36, 8X42 & 10X42. What do you guys use and what would you recommend? To me the Nikon seemed hands down better but I always appreciate other people's opinions.

Thanks and hello again.

Dave

Dave I have a pair of the Nikon(old model say 8-10 yrs old) of the roof prism 8x40 Monarchs and they are absolutely awesome...I do carry a pair of their travelites sometimes instead to travel light...

RE: Official Team 2 Thread

The cool thing about the place in Wisconsin is that my buddy's uncle and dad have a bunch of stands set-up all over the place and are letting me choose one. If I want to move they have portables. I'm usually good at picking a good spot just bad luck when it comes time for the kill. The trail cam pictures I've seen have my mouth watering. Of course, I need to get one in range or it really doesn't matter.

In MD I have 2stand sitesthat I plan on hunting by my house and a 2-3 on the Eastern Shore. Last year I was hunting new area and jumped around too much instead of giving 1 area enough time. If I would have just trusted my stand choices I would have been ok.

Just remember to make room in your pack for your camara. Didn't you buy a camara mount for in the tree stand?

I need to get something, just don't know what to get.

Yes I carry that baby everywhere..Took some photos of a doe and her triplets Tuesday in some beans. Yes I have a camera arm for the video camera it would work well with the new camera too. I bought the Pine Ridge it's a nice set-up the ratchet lock needed some modifications to be quieter. But a nice rig!

Dave, Welcome in..being first is kind of a tradition. Rob signs me in, this year was a surprise. But if you followed my saga (and Robs) last year I blew out my achilles (total tear) and wasn't sure if i'd be online when signups started, so when he made the post he put me first. Of course about that same time he blew his achilles out too.. This year I was shocked to see I was signed up. But it was cool!

As for Binos, like you I was wanting to finally buy a good pair. I asked and the over-whelming reponse was Nikon Monarchs ATB10x42. I got them for Christmas last year and I can't wait to start the season with these babys.

RE: Official Team 2 Thread

I'm thinking about buying a Gorilla camera arm and shoot some hunting video this fall. I bought the vide ocamera this summer and the more I thought about it I figured shooting a hunt would be fun.

I remember the achilles tears last year. That's cool that Rob does that for you. I'm leaning toward the 10X36 Monarch's just because of size. I'm done wasting money on cheap stuff jsut to replace it down the road. I know that when I looked at the same objects in the same light the Nikons blew away the Bushnell's I tried. It wasn't even close. The best part was how easy they were to get focused for me right off the bat compared to battling the other ones I tried. Thank you for your input. Did you hold both the 36 & 42 and notice any weight difference?

I'm going to start thinking of a name for our team. The team name from last year turned out to be a bad omen for us. "Team Quiet Arrow". I think I was the only one that even shot at a buck. This year it will ahve to be something like. "Team Super Zinging Arrow of Death for Monster Buck" lol

First year in new area after a 6 yr layoff from archery and didn't trust my instincts enough. I must have lost my edge a little from living near a city. And it seemed that many of the guys on my team barely made it into the woods. All out of system for this year for sure.

Kinda tough to make an avatar for the arrow zinging Monkeys of death.

No I didn't notice any weight difference at all. With the Bino Buddy harness (sold seperately) you don't feel them at all.

Like you I use to buy cheapys and on any sunny day they were as good as any. It's when the weather turns to trash and the critters are moving that you'll appreciate good optics!

RE: Official Team 2 Thread

Good morning Gentleman. Thank you for the PM. My apologies for not posting sooner but my life has beenreally hectic lately. I am about to head back to work with my full time job and things can get pretty confusing.

For those of you that do not know me, my name is Frank and I live in east central Pennsylvania. I bowhunt almost exclusively now though I plan on heading out a bit this year with my oldest to do a little dove and goose hunting also. Speaking of which, I am the proud father of two little boys, Logan - 6 and Aiden - 2. Both love deer and deer hunting. I took Logan out for the first time last year and he was pumped when I took a doe out of one of our blinds on our third trip. He is hooked. I am married to a very understanding wife who definitely puts up with much more than I expect her too. Yes, I am lucky in that regard. ;)

My primary job is working as a guidance counselor for one of the local school districts and I did have a second job working at one of the local pro shops. Sadly, this past June the pro shop went out of business. Now I am just enjoying the extra time with my family. I am really looking forward to this season and am very proud to be on the team with you guys. Here is to winning this flippin' contest this season!:D

Now, I may be of some help with this question as, after hunting and archery gear, optics are my favorite hobby. I have several binoculars that I use on a regular basis both for hunting and for a variety of other outdoor uses. I started out with something similar to yours many moons ago but eventually made the big step and upgraded to something better (Nikon Monarchs). That was about 6 or 7 years ago. Since then I have gone through quite a bit of glass in an effort to find something I would truly enjoy using.

To answer your question, it depends on how much you want to spend. At the $100 price point I would highly suggest the Leupold Yosemite porros...either 6x30 or 8x30. There is nothing that touches them optically at that price point plus Leupold's customer service is top notch. One week turn-around time on repairs is not unheard of. If you want to spend a bit more then both Eagle Optics and Cameralandny have a nice deal on Vortex Diamondback 8x42s in Coyote Brown for around $140. These are phase coated, waterproof roof prism bins with some very respectable specs.

At the $300 price point I would be looking at the previously mentioned Nikon Monarchs, Bushnell Legends, Vortex Furys and a whole host of other roof prism glass from Pentax, Burris, Leupold and Cabelas. I do not know if you are wanting to spend more than that so I will leave it at that.

...and, if you are remotely interested I am going to be putting a pair of 8x30 Zeiss Conquests up on Ebay shortly for right around $300. I only mention this because of the original question.

Hope this proves helpful and I am really looking forward to chattin' with you guys as the season gets closer.

RE: Official Team 2 Thread

Welcome Frank and good to get to know a little about you.I may have to go look at the Leupolds.I know where to find the 10X36 monarchs for $200 right now which is a steal. Like anything I think some optics fit some people's eyes better than others.

I have 23 days until the first day. I hope to be able to post something early for us.
