I did manage to purchase 2 hang ons and a 20 ft ladder stick for a big savings. The stands were $59 down to $39 and a $69 tree ladder stick minus a $20 off from the tickets we had for the concert
So by now you have one for every tree in your honey-hole? Is that the Elowapi way? [>:]

Yup, can never have too many just in case he's over there instead of over here, hanging sets for videoing plus if I have Nimrods like you come in to hunt, I'll be ready. ;)

Came home from NY today to my new toy;) I've always wanted to get more serious about photography, and toyed around with the idea of getting a nice DSLR for over a year, and finally I pulled the trigger last week when I got a deal that was hard to pass up. I mentioned last week I was considering getting a DV cam for my class, but after a lot of debate, I knew I would use a DSLR much more, and since I also can justify this for my class, I can write this off for tax purposes. Well, I didn't take actual pictures of it, because my smaller camera is still in NY with my fiance, so here's a few stock photos of it. Basically I got a almost new Canon 30D with a 28-135mm IS lens, warranty, 4GB CF card, original everything, etc.

Great looking camera Matt. It's funny you posted it, because I just bought a new Nikon D40 over the weekend as well. :D It'll be nice to have a camera that can take some good pics.

Yeah, I couldn't decide between Nikon and Canon. They're both great lines, and I just happened to get a great deal on this package. Looking forward to your pictures this season.

awesome!! got a couple guys in the woods!!! good luck guys!

Matt, hope the camera treats you well!! ive kicked around the idea of a DSLR for a while...sooner or later i'll get one....but, i know when i want one i wont have the danged thing anyway...

we got a pretty nasty wind storm last night...70+mph gusts at home...it was the highest in a pretty large area from what they showed on the news...not sure how its going to effect my hunting...i know the oaks and cherrys and everything is on the ground now....worried about limbs or trees being down in my honey hole...but dont wanna try sneaking in there now with only minimal time left before the season....

got GREAT news though...a guy rents a house from the landowner of the woods i hunt...he said theres an absolute monster running the area!!! same monster as ive been talking about...but he confirmed it deeper and said he sees it pretty regular....sounds like he is living on my hill...i got corn on 3 sides of my hill and bedding on the other...white oaks, chestnuts and cherrys and pines makeup my honey hole(actually in the oaks and chestnuts) bedding makes up the 3rd side...pines and thicket and old growed up field..its always been a "buck" spot...usually has a goodun or 2 on it too...just gotta hope one shows...im now starting to worry about WHAT if one DOES show up?? will i freak out? loose it? loose focus and whiff the shot? i KNOW i gotta keep my cool and stay under control...im usually good about it...but ive never had to draw my bow back on anything "big" ive never had a problem at all before...i just gotta remember to THINK and i'll be fine if one does show up...

The wind storm Mauser speaks of is killing me. No power since Sunday night. Not expected to get it back until at least Wednesday afternoon. I have 3 freezers full of food that is in deep peril right now. Not to mention I can’t get hardly anything ready for my trip cause I am stuck dealing with no power.
I was thru Mauser’s neck of the woods for work yesterday and it was pretty bad. Trees down everywhere. The whole town I went to had no power, this really is tough to deal with.
I'm very close to panic mode.

rybo, your right, i didnt talk to anyone from home till last night....the damage is worse than i knew....my house is out of electric as well...mom said same thing..couple days. i know my HS canceled school today because of power being out.

it was nasty....thankfully it happened now not in the dead of winter...

im wondering about my farmer buddy....cant milk cows without electric...not to mention what it did to the corn fields...ive seen some sideways corn up here and we got much less wind up here and they had better rain up here...with the drought at home the corn started dying and consuming itself starting at the roots and insides so it was prone to wind damage....

couldnt imagine being in that actual hurricane if we got 70+ mph winds in PA!!!

Yea maus, beaver got hammered.
My powerfinally came on.
2 DAYS! I'm all but packed. I'll shoot one final time tomorrow, I am all set.

BTW, mauser was the only one to bite when I posted about the "few 160" & a 200" that I saw scouting.

they were in a fence. [8D]
Real scouting only turned up 3 deer, but decent areas. Ohio just has WAY less deer overall than what I am used to.

Oh, I saw the few 160" and a 200" comment, but, hey, it's Ohio.:D Glad you got your power back on so you can regain your sanity in time for your hunt. Hopefully you score a slammer!

I was out shooting again, tonight. Shot the broadheads a bit at 30 and 20yds. They're shooting well. Decided to whip out the new camera and take some shots. It was cloudy, so there wasn't much scenic wise, but I did manage to get a couple neat shots of my bow and the range. I LOVE shallow DOF shots, and this is no exception.

Well all i saw was lots and lots of rain! I sat out there for hours just wanting to be out and i was! But nothing.

My bro is out this week and he stalked up to a hen turkey--8 yards and made a perfect shot!

Did get an even bigger 8 pointer on the cam.....will post pics later.

Will be out hunting this weekend in the local metro unit here just north of Milwaukee.

Good luck guys!

Rybo, mom just said our power and everything is back up as of about an hour or 2 ago! were just not used to that kinda thing...i can think of a handful of times powers been out in my life and never very long....

i never did get to see the answers on that post about the deer! lol...

you want deer numbers, head south! ive coonhunted in and around Washington, PA...S I C K. this was late winter/early spring...i actually got sick of seeing deer! every field had 10+ in it just from what i could see in the headlights...deer crossing the road every turn i took...found my first ever shed antler that night! carried that sucker around the rest of that drop...talked to a WCO from down there and he said guys CRY there are no deer down there [&:] i kept seceretly hoping the dog i was hunting against would chase some deer...but never happened lol! (was a competition hunt)

finally got some guys huntin!!! thats great! still kickin around the idea of heading out saturday to get into the stand..maybe look for a doe...but mainly just to get into the stand and get the gitters out of the way...

ahhh! is everyone hunting cept mauser!??!?!

i went spotting after coon hunting tonight...had like 7 bucks within a few hundred yards of my spot...i think 3 or 4 were legal 8pt or better...2 were pretty nice i could see them with my bare eyes clearly...some sparring and scraping going on....hopefully the bigger ones goto my hill across the road...or maybe thats where the BIG boys are hiding...cant spot them fields due to the corn yet...

my Alpha Burly sports might be the best investment ever...feel a little funky at first...but i did some walkin tonight and they are comfy and sturdy though they dont feel like it at first...gotta get that new rubber scent off of them bad boys...QUICK!

good luck everyone! seasons early...REAL early....but im excited...getting nice and cool at night...

Back from NC, nothing down on the ground but a lifetime of memories brought home with me. I had a great time. Matt did shoot a doe the first morning and I did have opp on 3 legal deer, all too small to shoot.

mauser06 09-22-2008 10:11 PM

RE: Official Team 15 Thread

sounds like a great trip in my book Rob! good times and everyone came out safe...even put one down...cant ask for much more than that!

i got nothin.....did shoot like CRAP today...first time i shot at my buddies...different target...different atmosphere...havent shot with anyone beside me in a LONG time...LOW light.....010 pins i couldnt see after the first couple rounds...

i dont know what it was...it got me seriously freaked though lol....i havent shot that bad in a while...i cannot see my green .010 pin on the white target...the spot was about 2" or so...but with the white and green not being visible to me, i couldnt get a float...i think its what was killing me. this weekend i'll be shooting my bag right before dark just to make sure that was the issue...going to call 2 shops tomorrow and see if either has .019 Viper pins in stock..doubt it...but i been kicking around the idea of going .019 for my top pin...now i think i may need to...

also noted i slapped my forarm on the first shot...must have locked the arm out but didnt realize it....havent done that in a long time...after that i lost focus and lost my pins....ive been fine all summer so i shouldnt be worrying...even from the stand when i shot from it....

mauser06 09-23-2008 09:45 AM

RE: Official Team 15 Thread

well the hunt for a .019 pin is going better than expected...theres a TON of shops up here around school that ive never known about. got 1 major shop to call in a half hour that just might have it...but found one in another shop if i need it...only kicker is it is red. i love the red for regular hours...but low light, its the first to go. to me, that red is the brightest till its about dark...going to wait for the other shop to open before i decide....might just leave it alone...i KNOW if i was shooting on my black bag id beable to see it no problem...when i shoot my white foam at home, and my buddies white target here yesterday, i just loose the green and cant get a float....brown deer? no problem...but the .019 will still buy me more time being slightly larger...ive kicked around the idea for a while...just never ordered them...less than 2 weeks before the season i want one........lol...if i cant find one today im not changing this season....doesnt matter about resighting...that needs done anyway...i forget my backyard is only 15yds since we got the fence lol...

would like to goto a shop anyway today...loop is slipping pretty bad which is killing my peep(another excuse for last nights poor shooting lol) and i had "something" hit me in the side after a shot last night...it was an arm on my Fuse string shox(mine are like the shox but have the "leeches" too...lasted over a year...i liked them. so im heading to a shop reguardless today i think...

mauser06 09-23-2008 03:46 PM

RE: Official Team 15 Thread

well, the hunt for a .019 viper pin has ended! only found that 1 shop that had the red....it was actually a nice color..wasnt red or yellow...i think it was an orange but it was a Viper....i liked it and the guy was installing it....CRACK! uht-oh! he pulled out a tube of .019 viper pins and said no worries! i asked if he could throw green in and he said no problem!

left it stick out of the tube just a haiiiir longer and boy, that sucker gathers light! it is BRIGHT. those .010s i have are nice and small, but dont gather the light like the .019 does. huge difference....going to try to shoot here shortly....i just lifted a little bit ago, but hopefully i can get it close...

also had a new loop tied on(lost all my material somewhere and havent ordered more) and had new string shox thrown in since both mine were shot...

they had an awesome looking indoor 3d range...might have to head there this winter when me and the buddies are bored...ive never shot indoor 3d. never been to that shop...surprised they have viper pins...they didnt have a whole lot of anything else really...and they were in the absolute middle of nowhere...heard them talking about business being slow... but real nice people...

wish i headed in that direction as a freshmen here...the land out there is amazing looking...big rolling hills with tons of fields and nice woodlots...everywhere around here is FLAT swamp land or fields...never headed that direction in search of land though......beautiful looking country screaming DEER...

mauser06 09-23-2008 07:12 PM

RE: Official Team Elowapi Thread (15)

well, i redeemed myself big time tonight. exhausted from lifting, and i still shot well. i shot probably 30 arrows before the buddies showed up...i was dialing in my 30yd pin when they showed...not that i ever try to impress anyone with my shooting...i dont..i know im not great...but to guys like them im amazing...

20yds i shafted one....was almost a true robin hood...arrow put a hole about dead center of the nock, split the nock in 2 but then glanced out and ripped carbon fiber off the back end of the nock....thats what i get for group shooting at 20yds...

30yds my buddy put a snuff can on the target "lets see who can come the closest" he said....WHACK...WHACK...i drilled it both times....

the .019 pin made a huge difference...as light wa fading i could hardly see my 30, but my 20 was fine....smart move for me IMO....

It feels good to finally get back in the field. Season opened on Monday, and my wife has been hunting with the ML. We had a real close call on a big buck last night, at last light, but couldn't get a clear shot. We have other plans tonight, but will be headed back out tomorrow evening. I think we've figured out their feeding routes though.

I probably won't be out with the bow until around Oct 13th or so. ML Hunting & a trip to Canada will take up the rest of the time until then. Good luck to you guys out hunting!

Rob, i knew Viper is said to be a great company to work with from reading your posts and some of the others....just didnt have the time....it was a real wierd light situation and target color that was screwin with me....the last 2 evenings ive been able to see my .010s fine  but that .019 on top is nice to have....ive been impressing the buddies every evening since...lol "i bet noone can hit this snuff can at 30yds" WHACK...WHACK...both of them in there..."i bet noone can hit the little plastic egg the stuff animal easter bunny is holding" WHACK...."i know noone can hit the stuffed easterbunny at 40yds" (noone but me has pins past 30 lol...) WHACK...."well if we all had 1000$ into our bows we could do that too......" or is it the hours and hours of practice i put in.....theyve all admitted that this year has been the most they practiced....only 1 of them is somewhat consistant but even he still has some wide flyers...i hit full draw and i have eyes watchin me from every angle "look at his grip""look how steady he is" "i think that level helps him"

drhntr...congrats!! have a safe trip!! with any luck we'll be on the board by the time you get back! most all of us aughta be hunting by then!

like Rob said, not long for us PA boys now.....i gotta get the rest of the gear dug up this weekend and i'll be ready to go...even got my first cold under my belt...well...fighting it now...so thats always nice to get outta the way! lol.....been a miserable couple days but im finally feeling somewhat better...
