I just love our 5....sometimes6man team.......[>:]
I kinda feel like if you don't have the time to commit then don't bother. Everyone on this team was last minute and had to respond to their respective PM from Rob to get on this team...now these last minute guys seem to have given up on the rest of the team. Either they have been hunting their tails off or maybe just don't care. Enough of my rant... Gotta finish up some house BS while it rains so I can hunt tomorrow. Good luck to ALL of our team members!!! |
RE: 48-Official Team 48 Thread
Yeah, I know what you mean.[>:]I just e-mailed Shane, Pike, Dan, and Don. Hopefully, we'll be hearing from them soon.:)

RE: 48-Official Team 48 Thread
Like I said before.....I'm dedicated to the team.....I'm just not much of a poster. I have been reading the posts and checking out the score card nearly everyday. I will post updates when I get them....been working a lot and hitting the woods whenever I can. Will post updates when I really have something to say. I see deer nearly every time out...but no shooters yet. Small 9.....mostly 5, 6 & 7 pointers. Have to have 4 pts to a side to be legal here in Washington County Pa. When I have good news or pics I will let you guys know. Dont say I'm not commited anymore please. Just because I dont post religously doesn't mean I'm not commited, or giving up on the Team. I talked Rob into making a Team 48, came up with the team name, got everyones names up and listed, volunteered for captain spot and even stuck up for our captain when people trash talked against him for being young. So don't say I'm not commited to the team.....just nothing to really talk about. The ruts coming and I got the fever......will be hunting all day this saturday. I will give the news if I have it. And yes Aaron.....whats the updates buddy on the bruiser.

Mornin fellas! We're finally gettin rain and storms here in NC so no hunting yesterday. I plan on giving it a shot this afternoon as long as there's no thunder or lightning in the area. They're saying we have an 80% chance of rain today and tomorrow. We need the rain that's for sure.

RE: 48-Official Team 48 Thread
Good luck with your hunt! Let me know if you see anything.;)

RE: 48-Official Team 48 Thread
Same here Mike. Next week looks really good.
Well I thought I had found another 50 acres to hunt. I've passed by this gas line right of way many, many times on the way home. I've seen deer in it in the evenings and the mornings. Well the day before yesterday around 8 pm I drove by it and there was a monster standing there munching away, with a couple does close by. I did some research and found out who owns the land. The aerial of the property looks NICE. Unfortunately the land is for sale and is under contract to a buyer[:@]...commercial of course.[:'(] That means it will be gone soon, I would guess. The realtor company told me it is under contract and therefore, due to liability issues, the cannot allow hunting. Maybe once they do sell it I can figure out who it is and hunt it before the season's out or they rip up some more prime deer land! Needless to say my hopes were up and now they are shot. Oh well, at least I've still got 2 other spots but aman can never have to much hunting land, right!!?? |
RE: 48-Official Team 48 Thread
I'm sorry to hear that.[:@]Just when you find a prime hunting spot.....You can't hunt it?!?[&:]
Well, you're right about a mannever having to many places to hunt! It seems like thereis less and less land to hunt...[>:] |

Well it's been raining here for 2 days!! Finally!! We're were about 15 inches short of rain for the year. This is the last timeI can remember 2 straight days of rain.I didn't hunt Wednesdaycuz I went to watch the CarolinaHurricanes whoop some Buffalo Sabres ass!!Yesterday I went in the drizzly rain and saw 3. 2 of them busted me when I got to my stand. Imade it to the tree and when all the darn doves flew out of the corn the deer heard the comotion and busted me. [:@]If I had been there just 5 minutes ealier I would have had a nanny in the truck!I didn't some light rattling and only had a spike come in 3 different times. No shooters.
I'm guessing Aaron didn't find his buck. Hopefully I'm wrong though! |

RE: 48-Official Team 48 Thread
Good job buddy!!
I rattled in 4 does last night. They all came within 5 yards of my stand. I was looking for bone last night so they all got a free pass. The weather has FINALLY started to cool off here in NC so hopefully that will kick the rutting activity up a notch. |
RE: 48-Official Team 48 Thread
Slow evening last night. I'll be back at it today though.
|
RE: 48-Official Team 48 Thread
How do you like my latest bow kill?
J/K... I actually shot him with a .270 Marlin rifle.:)He was about 100 yards away from me, at the edge of a field eating some clover. I've been trying to get this groundhog all year! The reason he's so nice and big is because he's been eating all my mom's vegetables in her garden.;) |
RE: 48-Official Team 48 Thread
Good job Mike. Gotta get those critter eating Mom's garden!!:D Well I went to the woods yesterday and had action but no horns. The same doe and her button buck youngin came in for a while. Then the larger button buck I rattled in last Sat. came in till dark. Right at dark a BIG doe came in and poked around within 5 yards of me. I can't believe she didn't have a buck following her! I'm not gonna shoot a doe again until I get some hornage on the ground. I want to keep the girls around so they'll bring in the boys!!;)

RE: 48-Official Team 48 Thread
Not much action this weekend for me. I did finally see a buck hound dogging a doe. Unfortunately it was a spike! At least I saw some rutting activity. Anyone have any luck?
|
RE: 48-Official Team 48 Thread
I went hunting this mourning and saw 2 does. One big, one small. My dad shot at the big doe with his muzzle loader and missed, (his bullet hit a tree branch and deflected).
WhenI heard him shoot I called him on the radio and asked if he"shotsomething"...He didn't answer.... So I walked overthe hill to where he was at, and spooked the does that he shot at earlier. The little doe was running away when I grunted at her with my "True-Talker" tube call. She turned around in her tracks and started running straight for me! I got ready for the shot...pulled my bow backand waited forher to get closer... I stopped her at 25 yards with a little mouth "blat", and fired...My arrowhit a tree branch that was 5 yards in front ofher...[>:] Deflected my arrow at a sharp 90 degree angle... Luckily,it was a clean miss. |

Hey fellas....you have been asking for updates so here you go. I hunted all day Friday and Saturday. Friday I was ground pounding a new funnel I located.....its only around 175 yards wide. I was looking for good sign and a nice tree to hunt out of on Saturday. Was surrounded by deer all day Friday! Saw 2 doe early morning...followed by a spike, a 5 pt, a 6pt, a very large 18-19" 8 pt, and a real nice 10 or 11 pt that was prob also around 18"-20". All of the deer passed at around 40-45 yards, and were on a well traveled trail. I tried to stop the two larger buck, but they had something else on their mind. At 4:15 a saw another doe.....moving real quick. I readied myself for what was coming.....it was the big 10 pt. He was moving on her so fast with his nose to the ground. He passed at around 27-30 yards....but I won't take a shot unless its a real slow walk that has no obstructions. I really prefer stopping them. Under the circumstances, I didn't want to wound him. 15 minutes later he came back through chasing the doe....this time they nearly ran me over. It was all I could do to find something to step behind so that I didn't gert trampled.....LOL. That was the last big buck I saw Friday....bunch of 5, 6, & 7 points with the occasional spike. I decided I was definately going to hunt this spot on Saturday. Right after I left the woods Friday, I drove directly to Gander Mountain. My other stands are still set-up in some other areas I hunt, and this was a good excuse to give the wife to get a new climber. I bought the new Summit Viper SS at around 8pm and took it home. Oh boy...new gear! I ate dinner first, then opened the box and started assembling. The climbing stirrups were missing! Its now after 9:00 pm, and I can't use my stand.....and all the stores are closed! I'm boiling!! I stood at Gander Mountains store Saturday morning until they opened. I made them give me new ones, but I had to miss the sunrise hunt over this. Its partly my fault buying the stand so late....but oh well. So now its 9:15 and I'm finally in my stand. Saw 2 buck not 10 minutes later.....a 6 pt and a 7 pt. Too small to shoot. The 7 was prob around 14", and the 6 pt isn't legal around here. Need atleast 4 pts to a side. Later I watched a spike fight a 4 pt over a doe. Man did I mention the buck are chasin the doe. The rut has finally begun here in south western PA. At lunch as I was eating, the large 8 pt came in and bedded down around 75 yards from me. He stayed there for around 2 hours taking a mid-day doe chasin nap. Boy was that cool...and nerve wrecking as well. He eventually got up and headed off to find the others. It was a bit windy Saturday, so the deer were a lot more timid.....the action was around 5:30 to 6:00 instead of like 4-5 on Friday. The wind spooks them a bit and they don't move as quick from their beds. In the last 30 minutes of light I saw a different 6 pt and the same spike as earlier. This is one hot spot. At last light I though I saw the big 10 pt on the edge of the thicket, but it was too dark to tell. I waited until he passed buy, then called it a day. Had lots of action, and I will be back at it all day Monday. I took off from work so I can visit my deer friends. I will post with any updates. Calling for rain in the afternoon, so I may leave the stand for a bit to do some mid-day ground pounding. I have shot atleast half of my archery buck in the rain stalking them in thickets. I move up on their beds while they rest, and wait for them to stand and shake off the rain. Cant wait. We will see. Good luck fellas.
