My dad might have some pictures, I will have to ask. My uncle had two deer under his stand when we were talking on the radio and my dad was just talking to my uncle when he heard the buck and silenced it. But yeah, the radio may get us busted...crap! Makes it nice to hear what others are experiencing while nothing is going on.

My dads buck was a 9" spike, a younger deer. But there are some nice bucks in there. A big 8 pt was pulled out of the woods this weekend about 3 miles from us. There are definitely some deer where we hunt. This is how the management area works there...its a real working cattle ranch, with feeders for the cattle. The cattle are on every part of the land but are separated by certain parts of the thick brush. The ranch is only open 5 weeks a year; 2 for archery, 1 for muzzleloader and 2 for general gun. They let 120 people in for archery, 75 for muzzleloader and 120 for gun...the ranch is 26,000+ acres. There is a lot of swamp, hardwoods, food plots (for the cattle), and a few dove fields with corn and stuff (I got a dove permit to hunt there this year).

Dang, I was hopin' to check in here and get to read some kill storys after this last weekend.
Sounds like the deer are winning so far. Don't quit guys, it's still early.
And ifit'll make anyone feel any better, all I got to shoot this weekend was some more prairie dogs![8D]
One good thing about my seasons starting later is that I won't be having to swat bugs while I'm hunting!

Mike,go to your local sporting store or electronics retail that sells the walkietalkies and buy yourself some earbuds. That way your dad and uncle can talk and you can be part of the conversation without any one or thing hearing it.If you need to speak then you do it quietly in a small microphone.
Tim,sounds like you had fun shooting prairie dogs. What gun, caliber combo do you use again?
Ya,normally October 1st here is a little cooler as well with no bugs but this year seems to be warmer then normal--the nights are cooling off comfortably--time will tell in a week.

I usually take three rifles for the p-dog task. 17hmr, .204 ruger, and my 22-250. Since I got my .204, my 22-250 is getting less action. The hmr is fun and gets the job done as long as there's no wind and targets not over about 125 yards.
Yip, getting down in the 30's here at night, tonight and tomorrow night then back in the 40's. Mtns. are getting more snow tonight, so it's just a matter of time before it really feels like fall has finally arrived.
Going to try to post a pic. of a nice little KS. buck that my buddy got recently. Just a little something to get you guys fired up.

We might be off, but we guessed him to be 170's. My buddy has some pics. oftwo other deer that we guessed to be 150's. He and his family have got some darn good hunting property, and now they have thier hopes high for this season.
The funny thing about that deer in the pic. is that he is living on a property that they rarely hunted for deer because it's just not typical good deer habitat, or at least they have property that typically have better/more bucks that they usually focus thier attention on. This year will be different, I suspect.

Im pissed off ya'll. Big time. One of my buddies dads was hunting yesterday and shot a nice 6 point. Im talkin he was around 22" inside spread. Hoss of a six point. The kicker is, is that he shot it over a corn pile. Illegal in the state of TN. Yeah there are several good bucks running around by my house one of them is a true monster and fairly close to the above picture. The buck he shot was one of those. I dunno I was happy for him but it just takes away from the experience for me. Still had velvet dreds hanging down from his antlers just a real nice buck....killed over a corn pile[&o]. I dunno its got me kinda down. I was going to hunt a little around that area that he killed that deer. But I didnt know they were still feeding corn over there. What do you guys think? Hopefully they will stop putting out the corn. I dunno.[&o]

PS. I just rough scored that deer from the picture and got 173". Man thats a whale. I hope your buddy gets him Howler.

Thanks Howler,I will be ever so grateful of you for posting that pic with 3 days left of work before I can head out--Thanks-Going to be some long ones I am sure--lmao
Great looking buck
To bad about the deer your buddies dad shot over bait, but dont let it get you down.Nothing you can do about it and dont let it interfere in your hunt. You know what you want, doing it legally and you can sleep better at night knowing you had nothing to do with it.
Why are they feeding the deer corn if the season is open, especially if its Illegal.Maybe a call to the GW will be in order. Is this on your land?
hmmm-I came up with 173 2/8--might wanna check the measurements again--lol
