RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Anyone else notice that our first buck down for the team was entered on page 44 of our team thread??? I think it is a sign of things to come. Go NIMRODS
|
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Steve you gotta get that brute entered in the contest cause we are still a big goose egg. Congrats again on a nice buck.
|
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Also remember to send Rob P/A a copy somhe can post it Stevez
I was out this evening and even though the wind's were fairly high still had deer come to the field . I used my doe decoy but it seem to spook the deer somewhat . I also used my grunt tuibe and am posative that I had a buck in the wood's behind me ,but for some reason never came into the open for me to have a look. I won't be back out till Fri evening and give it another go ,but this timeI think I'll leave the doe decoy at home this time. I also have all weekend to go out as well ,but the rifle seasonm begin's on Monday ,so it look's like I may miss the full rut. nubo |
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Stevez have you got him measured up ? I'll be heading out tomorrow eveing and I also have this weekend before the rifle hunt begin's ,so just hopefully something good happen's .

RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Wow FRALEY doesn't even come around here anymore. Tommorrow will be the day for me hope I can get a biggun for us.
|
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
im working on getting him scored. I dont have the head here at my place its at a friends getting skull mounted. It wont be long ill have it. My friend was supposed to measure. What do you guys think it will score?
|
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
I'm thinking he'll score around 120 to 125 . Maybe better ,but just a guess SteveZ.
I was out this evening and had a nice solid 8 point come out at around 80yrds ,at first it looked as though he was going to come right in ,but slowly turned and walked out into the field for a little feeding ,then he returned into the bedding area.A few minute's laterI see another deer walk into the field right where the buck went in ,at first I thoiught it was the buck returning ,but it happened to be a doe ,then 2 more doe's came from the very same area . Look's like this guy has all his doe's rounded up and ready fro the breeding phase.Thing's are looking real good and maybe tonight I should have had my decoy out ,just maybe that's all I really needed to get him to come in . I'll be back out in the morning ,with any luck he might just be hanging around. nubo |
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Got out this morning and never seen a deer till 9:00am ,a small spike walked right across in front of me, he started to go the other way when I "murped" at him and he came directly back to me within 20 yrds ,but I'm not ready top take a deer of his size quiteyet. I'm heading back out right now to remove and replace my stand's . The rifle hunter's will be in there tomorrow to scout and I don't want my stand's to go missing ,so out come's the ladder's and I'll hunt the rest of the weekend with my climber and 1 small portable stand . I also heard another hunter on the other side of the property line grunting and rattling a couple time's this morning ,The small buck headed in that direction and I'm sure he seen the little guy because he started grunting andrattling shortly after he went into the bush . This guy couldn't have been any more than 75 yrds from me directly into the hardwood's,so I just sat still hoping he may pull something across in front of me . See what happen's this evening .

RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Tonight was terrible ,only seen 3 deer and they came out from under my stand ,a doe and a pair of fawn's ,could have shot them ,but I don't like taking the doe away from fawn's . After going back to Rob's[Land Owner's]house after I hunted we had a coupleof beer and watched the Toronto Maple Leaf's play .The wife and some other friend's showed up ,but then the phone rang, and it was Rob's wife Mary, she had hit a deer on the way home ,So Rob ,Clarence and myself grabbed a beer and headed to help Mary with this deer ,she was really upset because this deer was still alive .When we got there theOPP's were there and he had gone ahead and shot the deer. After looking the deer over it was a 1 1/2 year old buck and she took his back leg's out ,so we through him in the truck and took him back to Rob's farm andfield dressed him ,he was in real good shape ,so he'll make for some real good eating . The Rifle season start's on Monday and they're calling for real bad weather ,so hopefully the big guy's make it through the week . These big buck's don't get big for being stupid .
There were hunter's on every property around setting up stand's and scouting out the properties today ,so i guess that's a good reason for it being so quiet tonight .What get's me is these guy's come up here to hunt and they decide to sight in their rifle's on the very property they want to hunt ,I would really think they would want the property to be quiet for Monday ,but i guess it doesn't matter to them . nubo |
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
That doesn't make any sense to sight yer rifle in on the property that they are gooing to be hunting. Nothing like sending out a big signal that there lifes are going to be in danger. DUH[:-]Well I got out late yesterday morning and bumped a doe as I went to the stand, oh well that is what I get for gettig out there so late. Well all in all it turned out to be a good morning though. I sat for around 3 hours and had 6 deer walk by me. 2 were bucks an 8 pointer and a 6 pointer but not something I wanted to take this early in the rut. Sure was fun messing with them though. I will be able to hunt all week prior to work this week cause I don't have to be in till 10:30 all week then I am off Friday so may do a all dayer that day. Really want to get some bone on the board along with Steves deer. Off to Des Moines today so no hunting for me. My nephew did come by last night and told me he had something for me, he went out to his car and came back in with a scent lok jacket, brand new with the tags have never owned scent lok but will sure be trying it out the rest of the season. Well good luck everyone and talk to ya later.

RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Making use of a road kill is a great way to go. My wife and I have a running contest to see who will get more deer - she picks hers up from the road and me with my bow. Works out well as long as she's not trying to hit them with her car. It sure is nice that the Wisc. gun season doesn't start to the third week of Nov. I saw a nice 8 pt last night at the edge of the clear cut, I'm going to sneak in today and scout a new stand site closer to his travel route.
I've also got problems keeping my Blazers glued to my arrows, see my post. Don't know if any of you guys use blazers or not? Blazer Problem |
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
This deer broke both it's back leg's and there was no other damage to the deer ,so it'll make for some great eating . I have a very good friend who's pretty much crippled and he love's deer ,so I'm going to give him half of the deer . The other half we're gonna make some pepperette's for the landowner.I know I'll have lot's of time to get another deer ,so keeping everyone happy make's life real good for me .
IowaBob! Your gonna like the scentlok bud ,last night I was perched in a cedar tree and the doe and 2 fawn's came out right undernieth me ,they were so close that I could hear them nibbling on the cedar browes. The wind was slightly at my back and when they came out they were directly undernieth me out about 10 yrds and I had my scentlok on as well, those deer had no clue I was there ,so I have to say that the scentlok does work . I only bought it just before deer season ,just because the price was right and I wanted to see for myself if it work's .My opinion now is that it does contain your scent very well . I still go through the proper scent elliminating procedure's even with the scentlok ,I definately spray myself down just before heading in ,and after last night I have a good impression of scentlok. Deertale! Did you wipe your shaft's with alchohol before applying them ?Sometime's I will take some "VERY" fine sandpaper and rub the part of the shaft with it ,then I'll wipe it clean with alchohol ,let dry and then apply the vane's . A good friend of mine had some problem's with his blazer's and when he contacted them ,they told him that a bad product had gotten out and they sent him some new one's . So after you try what I've explained to you and if it doesn't work ,then I would contact Blazer about your problem, I'm sure they'll make it right by you . nubo |
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Well we will find out about that scentlok tommorow morning. I have to go set a stand this a.m. on some new property that I have never hunted be4. It is located in big buck territory almost totally enclosed by leased ground and the rest nobody bowhunts. I am positive that it will produce a biggun for me and the NIMRODS.

RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
My best friend just stuck a monster this morning around 8 am. on my property. It soundsl like he hit it low, but he said there was a ton of blood that was real dark. The deer didnt run off just walked away. The arrow had blood, hair and a little bit of fat. With all of that in mind do you think hell get him? Ill post a pic of the deer we think it is.
|
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
I think this is the deer???

RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
well guys im goin to be hunting for the next 3 days so hopefully i can get it done its supposed to be really cold in the mornings so we'll see what happens. good luck guys

RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
We're expecting snow tonight and they're calling for about 6" of it ,so it's really putting a dampner on the shotgunner's hunt this week ,they've had nothing but heavy wind's and rain's all week so far and now with the calling of snow I'm sure it's going to really swcrew up their week . But that's good for me ,if they can't get out the better chance's are for my buck to get through this week ,so I can get another look at him next week.

RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Hello team. Went out to hunt last Saturday to a place close to home for an evening. To make a long story short, fell out out of my climber at 15 to 18 feet. 4 broken ribs, 2 broken bones in my neck and 1 collasped lung. Looks like my season is over. I'm just lucky to be alive. Maybe we can get an alternate to take my place?

RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Well from what I found out it looks like we are gonna have to do it with nine guys, time to step upI guess. spudrow don't worry about the team you just concentrate on getting yerself healed up. Had a awesome encounter with a 170" deer yesterday morning but no good shot was offered so I had to pass on him. Did have a broadside shot at 30 yards but just to many obstacles that could have deflected the arrow so decided not to take a chance of wounding the beast. He was a 10 pointer with lots of mass. I am pretty sure that he wasn't alerted to my presence so maybe he will pass my way again. Off to the stand again in a few minutes so lets hope he passes my way again because there is a enough of a shooting lane to drive a semi through now.
|
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Spudrow!
That's terrible new's ,I'm just glad your on the healing mend ,man you really have to be careful in those stand's .You take care of yourself and get back into hunting form ,just maybe you can get out for a walk before the season's over . Bob it's gonna happen bud ,I just feel it ,so keep at it and I'll be looking forward to seeing a pic of that great buck . nubo |
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Glad to hear your still alive Spudrow - Hang in there and work on your recovery. The team is behind you.
I picked up my trail cam on Monday and was pleasantly surprised about seeing the buck my wife calls the "Night Rambler." He showed up on my very first trail cam set up in 2005. I've just recently got permission to hunt my neighbors property where I believe he travels on to get to my stand. Its got a field edge. If the winds right, my son and I will hunt it this weekend with the decoy. Maybe this will be the year... ![]() |
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Blow wind blow. Yesterday was brutal in the stand. Saw one deer and it was a small buck. Got some bad news from a local farmer yesterday. While combining a field of corn he found 6 mature bucks dead out in the middle of the field. He is guessing that itis blue tongue due to the poor shape of the deer.[:@]If only they would have opened up our quotas for harvest a few years ago like all the huntershad asked. But IowasDNR think they have the population in check when really they have no ideajust how many deer there are here. They shoulda been listening tous hunters instead of there biologists. Well back to the tree for me good luck all.

RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Spud glad to hear you survived this one. Hopefully all will learn from this. I think you should tell your story
to help others. Just my little opinion pal |
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
spud, just glad to see your still around to tell about, my dad had a tree fall down while he was in it. He was also lucky to be alive, well get well soon and get back out there next year!

RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Hey Guys
Sorry have not been around Hunting Hunting and have not seen a thing , Spudrow sorry to hear about your fall , glad your still around ,been jumping stand to stand and have not seen anything, last year stuck to one stand and nothing so i thoughti would take my brother advise and hunt the wind and move around a bit but nothing , I still enjoy it , just being out there is apart of it, going out tonight with my bro , be nice to stick one for the team and to have my brother around also, ill try to make it on more, Good luck Team Hunt Hard ,Remember the deer don't want to die thats why its tuff, so hunt hard and stick one oe two |
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Well fellas after a week of hunting really hard my optimism is less than desirable. I have seen quite a few deer but nothing worth letting a arrow fly for this early in the season. I cannot believe that I screwed up that encounter with that monster Tuesday morning, if I woul've just cleared some lanes I would be sleeping in instead of getting up early every morning and sitting in the stand until it is time to go to work. Well enough lickng my wounds I better just get out there and get it done. You all just hunt and have fun and I guarantee that I will get it done no matter what. Later fellas and hunt hard.

RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.

RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
ORIGINAL: FRALEY Spud glad to hear you survived this one. Hopefully all will learn from this. I think you should tell your story to help others. Just my little opinion pal Yes I agree Fraley. Here it is. We got to the woods about 2pm, walked to our secelected hunting spot. I hooked my bow on the string and attached my climber to the tree. Now I don't use a safty harness climbing up and down with the climber because I am 99 percent tied into it. I do now however recommend using one at all times. Hind sight. I reached the height I wanted and just happened to look down and see my back pack lying on the ground and this is where I keep my harness. At any rate I decided to head back down the tree to get my pack. Well, I didn't exactly secure myself in he climber and when I went to move it downward the bottom piece slipped about 2 feet and when it finally caught the sudden stop jolted me right out and down to the ground. Instead of wrapping myself around the climber and placing my arms in the bars, setting on the strap I justkind of hung on to the climber part, big mistake,I am truly lucky to be alive. I know this may sound corny, but if you use climbers be sure to use them the way they were intendedto be used. The most important item to carry with you in the woods isyour cell phone, fully charged. Without mine I might have been coyote bait. Onemore thing, if at all possible always hunt with a buddy. I wish everyone a safe and successful hunt. Spudrow from Mo |
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Whoa, Our team members are dropping (no pun intended). You guys be safe out there, lets not have anymore accidents. I haven't seen a buck in the last two weeks. I did get a nice doe last Friday. and my kid was at full draw on a yearling, but she just wouldn't take one step out from behind the brush. He was whispering "I don know if I can do it." It was exciting, it brought back all those feeling when I first started bow hunting.

RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Guy's!
I was certainly planning on being out this week ,but I've been sick in bed with the flu,so much for hunting . I'm feeling a bit better today and hopefully I'll be out in the morning . We got about 3" of snow overnight and are expecting very much the same weather all weekend long . I think now's the time to catch these big buck's feeding in the crop field's ,I sure hope that's the case . Spudrow ! I'm real glad to hear your going to mend O.K. ,but we'll have to turn it up a notch or 2 ,I've noticed we still don't have a deer scored yet for the team . I hope Stevez hasn't forgot to do it .We sure need some point's on the board . nubo |
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Thanks nubo. Take cae of yourself as well.

RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Well fellas it's back to the tree again this a.m. The big boys have disappeared around here this last week. opefully one will pass my way in the search for a hot doe today. Well you all be careful out there and will fill you in with the details.
|
RE: 44-Official Team 44 Thread.
Good luck Bob ,hope you bag a big one . If the buck's have disappeared I'll bet you'll catch one in the middle of the day feeding in the field's .That's if the rut has finished or coming close to being finished . I'll be back out in the morning on Sun, haven't been able to get out due to being sick ,I still have a bit of a cough hopefully tomorrow will be back to normal.
