Not as good of a look as I would have liked.
He had a huge body, but I didn't get a a good look at the antlers.Between the low light and my eyesight, Icouldn't tell exactly what he had.I did get him to stop with a snort wheeze. I grunted a couple of times, but he really wasn't interested. He was more worried about getting to where he was headed...the green beans! Which, of course, is on private land. [&:]
I'm hoping to fill my freezer soon! Would you care if I got us 95 points?? lol

I haven't seen a spike yet, which would getus close to 10 inches. lol
It's early. I'm just now starting to see fresh rubs and scrapes, but very few of them.
The deer are starting to get spooky. I hunt public land, so everyone else out there taking a whack doesn't help...that and the fact that some of them don't bathe or wash their clothing. [:'(]I came upon one guy tracking and even I could smell him. Way to scare the deer, dude. [X(]
It doesn't help that a lot of those guys get into their stand late. My buddy and I are there at least a couple of hours early, just so we can let things settle. We hear guys tromping in, talking like they're just going for a walk, clanging...ugh.
I SO need to find a lease.
Ok, I'm through whinning and crying, now. lol
Keep your fingers crossed for that 10 incher!! lol

Can someone please explain this to me??? How can someone who shoots his bow all year long andwins various tournaments, miss a deer at 35yrds??? And not just any deer..this was the type of buck that I've spent the past 7 years looking for! Year after year I'd sit in a tree and pass up little buck after little buck in hopes of one day having a monster walk past. In fact in the past7 years I've leta combined 80+ bucks walkpast. Yes I have seen some very nice bucks in that time, but none haveever been in range and I was left to only watch and observe these amazing animals.Well this past sunday it finally happened! I had a gorgous 3 1/2 yr old nine point come sauntering in and for a whole 40 seconds I was able to bask in his presence. This deer was absolutly amazing! Its so cool to see deer as they age...they become a whole different animal compared totheir younger counter parts. He was big and muscular(all of200lbs)and was a very dark color unlike the usual light brown of a younger age class deer. He wore an awsome set of antlers. 5 long tines on his left side and 4 on this right. His spread was almost 20 inches as his main beams streched well past his ears. You may say how do you remember so much about him from such limited time to look him over..well let me tell ya, when you finally get a buck like that in your sights he gets burned into your memory forever! So now for the part that is haunting me.... So their I am standing in my tree stand...taking care of "business" yep..sitting there taking a pee when this brute comes walking down the trail! Seven years of waiting and I get caught with my pants down..so to speak!!So I'm standing there with my $$% in my hands trying to finish before this buck walks outa my life forever. Not only was I holding the wrong "weapon" LOL but my bow was still on it's hanger and off to my side and this slammer buck is closing the distance quickly. So after finishing quicker than a chick at a bar, I got everything put away and grabed my bow. By now he was already thru my first shooting lane and heading fast towards my second and last chance shooting lane. As he entered my final lane I began to draw the bow and just as I did he stopped with a tree shielding his vitals. Now I was stuck there at full draw holding while this buck just stands there and looks around. After what seem like forever(probably 15 sec) he started to move again thru my lane...now with his vitals wide open I bleated at him to get him to stop. As he came to a stop I quickly centered my pin rt behind his shoulder and began to pull thru the shot. At this point all I was thinking was " wow!! this is finally gona happen!!!" Well It didnt! Cause as I was sighting in on him I failed to relize that he was closer than I thought and at the shot I watched in horror as the arrow flew harmlessly rt over his back! As I sat there in utter bewilderment and watching a deer that I had waited so long for just turn tail and bound away I almost lost it! Thats rt....I litterly wanted to cry( yeah real manly hun??!!)I didnt thou I might add
. So thats my disapointing story from this weekend. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what the rest of this season has in store!

OMG!!! I feel for you APA. I bet you were literally aching inside afterwards (I would have cried and barfed if that makes you feel any better). I bet you will get another chance, just hang in there - and keep your pants up.Some things just can't be explained, as we all know, you are more than qualified to make great shots.
I had a similar incident a couple of years ago. I was focused on a deer that passed my 30 yd tree mark and I kept my draw on him until he stopped. He was about 13 yards closer butthe densematter in mybrain kept me locked on the 30 yd pin. You know the rest of the story.
This is how we learn, it just takes me a bit longer than others. I was just talking to a friend of mine a few days ago that it seems there are more over-shots than under-shots. Wonder what the stats are for that.
I'll be doing a Saturday evening and Sunday morning hunt at my buddy's place this weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck to everyone else.
