Well guys sat out Thursday, Friday evening and then all day
Saturday and then Sunday evening. I saw one button buck the entire time and probably 50 turkeys. Thats it! I was pretty excited for this weekend hunt b/c I was hunting my honey hole farm but the deer were non-existant. I can't explain why or figure out why they weren't in there. I thought for sure I would be seeing a little pre rut action but to no prevail.I didn't even spook deerwalkingto and from my standand I usually bump one. Oh well, that's why its called hunting and not killing! I plan to be out this next weekend and hopefully my luck changes for the better. Good luck guys on Team 36.

WOW you and me both. I sat sun up to sun down on Saturday and saw one fork horn and too little round heads. Friday night 2 other round heads came crashing thru. These were about 800 yards from the ones on Saturday. I really thought I would be seeing the bucks running too but NOTHING. Oh well. My son Matt comes home tomorrow from the Navy. We will be out for 6 days starting on Wednesday.

Hey guys, didn’t see to much this weekend, just a few small bucks, and skin heads. Should be good next weekend, gonna hunt fri, sat, and Sunday.

The reason you didn’t see much this weekend was the full moon.. they all moved at night…

louddrummer69 10-29-2007 09:44 AM

RE: 36 Official Team 36 Thread

You know I really didn't believe in the moon theory but I think you have to be right. It was an awfully bright moon with minimal cloud cover. Hopefully my post after this weekend will be a better update with a nice set of horns in my hands!

Ok WI, I don't think we can submit until 10/1 or something like that. I scored him at home using a copy of a P&Y scoring sheet from my 2006 buck and was very conservative (because I was more concerned about getting a realistic estimate of whether he'll make P&Y or not - because if he will, I want a full head mount, if not it's going to be European). I grossed him at just under 130, net of just over 125 (probably going to be sub-125 after shrinkage). The extra tine is around 2" and probably a 3" circumference so he's around 135gross or so (for the contest, but the 5th tine doesn't count even in gross for true P&Y scoring). But, I'll bring my score sheet in and do it right when it's time to submit him.

What's everyone elses thoughts, does your gut tell you he's 125" when you look at the harvest pic (the game cam pic is misleading due to the velvet still in)?
FYI guys, I had him officially scored by a P&Y measurer at 131 net this weekend. Still a few days shy of the 60-day drying period so we'll have to re-measure but I wanted to know if he was P&Y before rifle season opener, when it will be easy for me to get a replacment cape to mount him (just an antler mount if non-P&Y, full head mount for P&Y).

Ed I was thinking that. I did see a lot of deer in the fields on Saturday morning on my way to stand. It was cloudy but there was still enough light that I could walk all the way to the stand 1 hour 15 minutes before shooting time withOUT the flash light.

Deadstick congrats on the offical score. Sounds like he will make the book for you.

well went out tonight. wind was a little strong but in my favor, i had been waiting for a south wind to hunt where these three ridges come down and meet at one point. i climbed in the middle of the 3 ridges w/ most of my shots either being extremely close or around 30 yards. but i only saw one deer..... a poper! just guessing by watching him he was a good 140" 8 pointer. he got within thirty yards of me. my heart sank though when he walked away and never once presented a shot. that really got to me, i knew all he had to do was give me just a little window, but he never did. not a giant deer but he would have been a wall hanger for me.....too bad i didnt have a gun.....[:@]will head out again tomorrow night to try it somewhere else.

I watched a buck really pushing a group of does around last nite in the corn field I was combining. He was gruntin with his head down the whole time. This morning a deer is going to die! There I got my confidence, now I am leaving to make it happen :D

keep us posted guys sounds like we are all gettin close! I'll be out fri- sunday... hopefully I score.

Redram - any word on a score??? we need you to post it before we can debate it....

I had a 115-120" 4x4 come into my James Valley Scrape Gel this mornin at 24 yards. He was all stretched out broadside licking the branch it was on, woulda been a lil chip shot if he woulda been a lil bigger! There are a few trees in my area that are getting absolutely thrashed; they are quite big trees, so I'll be holding out for at least 2 more weeks for a big guy.

Well the time is about here. I will be out for most of the time from tomorrow (10-31) to Nov. 6th. Then back out on the 9-11. Good luck all and I will report back in a while.

we got 3 or 4 guys on some good deer, if we all score we could easily be tough competition...

I had 2 more bucks come in this evening. One was a 3x2 and the other a 2x2, both of 'em screwed around at the scrape 3 yards from my treestand for a while, then they shoved each other around for a bit.

Here is a picture I took this evening from my stand. The tree the sight is aiming at is where I had the 4x4 this morning at a scrape.

I have officially passed up 5 different bucks now in 2 days out of the same stand. This is a record for me to say the least. Lots of deer activity with this cold front coming thru.

I passed up a 5x4 and a 4x4 this evening. I remembered to grab the camera phone when I was messing with the 4x4.

Hopefully there daddy or grand-daddy comes by soon!

Well guys I got one down here in PA. He's not the biggest buck, but my first buck with a bow. You can read the story on the bowhunting forum. I'll get him scored later on and submit it to Rob.

Ive passed up numerous bucks in the last two days... the biggest of which may have broke 100"

But Ive got trail cam photos of many big bucks, the biggest 2 should break 150...

Hopefully soon I'll score!

Well guys, I have one day left (Nov 9) to get out there with a bow. Rifle season starts on Saturday so you can guess that after that the bucks are not so easy to find. My sightings of bucks or deer in general this year have been minimal. Can't explain why. But I hope to get something down this Friday and contribute to Team 36.

Hey guys, the weather is gettin perfect, and I'm seeing a lot of activity... too bad I cant be out hunting as much..

Will be out friday eve, and sat morn, got a wedding sat afternoon (who would do such things?!?!?) anyway I hope to score this weekend!

Sounding good Ed!

The bucks are pushing really hard here. I'm hoping to be successful in the AM. I'm leaving Friday morning for a muley hunt out west with rifle. So I won't be able to hunt Fri-Sun. Maybe longer depending on the success on the muley hunt. The bow is going along on that hunt just in case tho :D

Nice buck there PA. Hell that is better then anything I have taken gun or bow. Matt was in town and we had a blast. I did not get anything but he slammed a doe and buck. The buck was a 7 point with just a spike and point on the left side. He got the doe on the first evening with about 10 minutes left of light at 6 yards and then the buck from the same stand the next morning about 1 1/2 hours into the day. The buck was at like 3 yards. He would have jumped from the stand and get it but he had his harness on. Anyway he is back in FL with the Navy now. I will be going out this weekend but our gun season opens the 17th and lasts for too long. I still have hope for this weekend but I have hunted harder this year then just about any in the past and still nothing. I am passing several small 4 and 6 pointers but I really want something big. A decent 8 coming by now will be eating a slick trick. Matt did see a couple of odd racks like what he got out there and if I get a chance I might take one of those out of the gene pool as well.

Good luck all and I will report back early next week.

Here are the pics of Matts deer.

I wasn't really trying to sound ungrateful or anything. I'm completly happy and thrilled with my buck. I just didn't score him right the first time around that's all. I have killed alot of bucks over the years with a rifle, but never a 10 point. I do have a real big 8 mounted that I got in 2004 and before that a few 8's and a 9 and a good 6 before AR kicked in here in Pa. I've also killed my share of yearlings and a few buttons in the old days. But that is old history. Before I knew any better.:D

Well guys I think my season is over. Sorry I did not put any numbers up this year. I stayed at the cabin 19 nights total and hunted 19 evening and 19 mornings with that. A totalof 38 sits in trees and never saw a decent buck all season. Matt and I had a lot of fun while he was in town but the hunting was not what it has been in the past. I have several theories about that but nothing I can do anything about now. Can't control the neighbors eh???? I might post in the bowhunting section about that later on and get some opinions but that is for another day.

Good luck to all that are still hunting and if I am able to get out in the late season I will post how I do. For now I don't think I will as I did hunt more days this year then I ever have. My new wife has been VERY understanding about all of that.

Well, I just got home from a muley hunt out West with rifle. The hunting was really tough, it was un-seasonably warm and the hunting pressure was real high. I end up with a good 4x4.

For conditions archery hunting it is insane. I watched 16 different bucks on my land fighting/pushing does hard. Its going to be a good week! :D

RE: 36 Official Team PassThru Thread

Well fellas, sorry I was unsuccessful with my bow this year. I still can go but usually after rifle season it gets pretty rough especially since our ajoining neighborsfound 5 poached deer last yearand one already this year withthe bucks head cut off. Deer become very nocturnal and at the moment my food sources have been sprayed for future projects I have planned for our wildlife farm. Anyway, I was successful on this rifle kill on Saturday the 10th. He has a 21.5 inside spread which was fantastic. All I had seen this season is crap racks and young guys until this guy let it be known he was looking for love. I'll go bowhunt a few more times and try to help out team 36. Good luck guys.

Hey guys,
Got my last week before gun season.. so I gotta connect this weekend, hopefully the high winds dont prevent to much movement! But Ive got 5 shooter bucks, its just a matter of time, tomorrow may be an all day sit for me if I can tolerate the wind/cold...

RE: 36 Official Team PassThru Thread

Wishing you luck HuntingEd.

I made an iffy shot tonite on a real nice buck. When I anchored when I pulle dback my elbow hit a low hanging limb over my head an snapped it. He was less than 10 yards from me when I pulled back, he spooked an ran to 40 yards and was quartering away real hard. I put the arrow right in front of his hind quarter, and watched my lumenock completely dissappear. As he was bolting away I gave a few grunts and he stopped, stood there for a few seconds, then took off. It sounded like he went maybe 30 more yards then I heard a crash, then it was dead silent. About 10 minutes later I'm searching the ground with my binoculars for the arrow, when I see a 2x2 appear where I thought the deer went down. He starred where I thought the deer went down, stomped a bit, then walked off tense like. So in 20 minutes we'll see what happens.

good luck findin your deer rammer!

I just went to check a camera tonight and found one stolen!!! I hate that people have no respect for others property, plus that means they are hunting my spot!

Rammer 11-15-2007 09:37 PM

RE: 36 Official Team PassThru Thread

Well, I discovered that I hit a lil limb right before the arrow got to the deer, which deflected it upwards (explains why I lost sight of the lumenock) then I grazed over his back, giving him a mo-hawk. Found alot of hair where he was standing, no blood, fat, tissue on my arrow what-so-ever. So pretty much a clean miss. I guess I feel relieved, I'd rather have completely missed than wound a deer of his caliber.
