RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Well with the year I'm having I'll be the last one to give you any great suggestions. But with this snow cover I believe any decent size game lands that you can walk into a ways getting away from the road will produce shooting at a doe and theres still plenty of bucks running around ,the kill is way down this year.
|
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Congrats on the buck, Jim. Did you post any pics anywhere?
|
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread

|
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Wow I almost had a heart attack when I saw that pic Silver!! Awesome pic and great buck. How many years ago was that taken?? Jim, maybe you need to give the team a little moral boost, like a cheerler cheer or something!! hahaha
I shot a decent 8pt tonight with my shotgun. It was the last day of the season and I usually go out with a firearm the first gun day and the last with the fellas, traditional thing weve been doing for years. I'll put some pics up of him possibly tomorrow. Not a giant so you arent missing much, but hes got incredible genetics and Im glad he hopefully got to breed this season. All I saw was a side view of him, if I would have seen him look at me I probably would have let him walk. Hes only 16" wide and tiny brow tines, but from the side view he looked decent and I had a 5 foot opening in some pines he was walking thru and about 3 seconds to decide at 60 yards. Saw the big mule kick, and watched him go about 40 yards thru some thick pines before piling up.Going to tip a few cold ones back with the fellas, cook out on the grill, tell some stories.I'll try and get those pics up tomorrow for show and tell : ) |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Great job Diesel today was the last day of rifle season here and like the rest of the year I only saw a small 6 point. Maybe the late season will be more productive for me.
|
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Congrats on another Buck Diesel, cant wait to see the pics.
You guys did better than I did today, I saw a squirrel run down the tree, dig through the snow, gather upsomeleaves, and went stright back to its nest, No deer, no birds, no nothing, I dont think I even herd a plane go over today! I split wood today and when it came time to get out of the stand I was locked up, Thought I was going to have to call in a chopper to get me out of the stand! I do have a hot doe around my stand and the big boys tracks are all over the place. I got the Buckin the picture on Kansas public hunting land in 94. I lived there for 4 years, the first 2 seasons I was there I managed to be crippled up and did not get to bowhunt, and I was on some great Bucks to. I did manage to get a 22" 8 pt in 95 befor moving back to MI. The Wife and I are looking to move back this year, it all depends on work! |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Well we were drinking a few beers and cookin on the grill tonight while looking at some of my trail cam pics, and saw the buck I shot in a few pics fromone of my cameras about 300 yards away. Here is the buck a few days ago, not a real big one but he has some great genetics for a 2.5 year old and it was just another great hunt. I'll put some glamour shots up tomorrow when I can take pics in daylight.

Nice Buck, your right great Genetics, I can see why you quick shot him, he looks great from the side. |

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Not a whopper! What's with the buck bomb? You trying to get a lil kick back lol. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Great job Diesel, MM, pick me up on your way through!:D
|
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
ORIGINAL: Mantis Mayer Not a whopper! What's with the buck bomb? You trying to get a lil kick back lol. MM< I'll move the car to my brothers garage, bring the family, theres plenty of room, cable TV, heat, you even have a TIG welder and an air compressor in the garagehehe. Actually MM, Rick Schmidt who owns Buck Bomb is a personal friend, hes been helping me out with marketing my business and giving me pointers. I told him I would usehis stuffthis year, which I honestly have done as often as I could. I was curious to see the results as I used to bea Still Steamin, Code Blue and James Valley scent guy. Yesterday, I had my first honestly bad experience with Buck Bombeven though I was lucky enough to take a buck.I have been taking it up in my stands, and spraying short bursts every few minutes when I get some little wind burts or a breeze that pops up. Well yesterday one of the times I hit the button and the wind changed direction in a mili second andblew it back in my face hard. It was in my nostrils, on my lips, all over my mask. You ever taste Doe pee? Tastes like chicken! Looking back over my season, I cant complain one bit. Myself and my hunting buddies have seen far less deer than normal overall, some of them are still skunked for the season for gun, bow and BP probably because they are using Code Blue lol, Ive been pretty lucky to get 3 decent bucks and some Does, probably because of my camo [8D] |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Mantis the man cave looks great! If we dont move this year I need to put me one up in the yard, My house is only 1200 sq ft and the hole thing is a man cave right now (good thing my wife is eat up with hunting as bad as I am.)
Great pics Diesel, If my luck does not change soon I may have to Buck Bomb me one. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
im not dead guys!:D
to be honest, ive deer hunted SO much this year that ive taken the last two weekends off. did some duck hunting, but thats about it. ive basically been working on rigging the boat for bowfishing, duck huntin, and gettin my coyote hunting setup ready. ill be bowhunting quite a bit over christmas break. We have 6 days of school left, then were out for two weeks or so. who knows what will happen, but it doesnt look bright at this point. Anything brown had a bounty on it during rifle seasonaround the farm i hunt. all the small bucks that weve been passing were slayed one farm over. Hopefully one of the big boys went into hiding and made it through.ill be huntng the REALLY thick stuff from this point out. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Hang in there Trevor, December deer hunting in Ky was always good to me when I lived there, Even taged a 140" 8 pt on Dec 30th one year! It ain't over till its over. I may head back down that way right after christmas if I can swing it. My Daughter in law shot a 140+ right in the shoulder bone when we were down in Nov looked for it for 2 days and could not find it, but I knew it was non fatal shot soon as I looked at the arrow.
It only takes a few seconds for things to turn in your favor, Good Luck. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
DANG GUYS!! Usually I check in and theres nothing but my old posts to read! I come back and shazaam you guys go post crazy!!
Sliver ~ that buck pic is awe inspiring what did that brute score?? Great Great Buck what year was that?? Mantis ~ thanks for the score and that "man room" is too cool. Gonna start on mine this winter! (it won't be quite as fancy as yours, at least initially)..I'm jealous! Diesel ~ another nice buck!! You better hang a stand with my name on it! If that invitation is sincere I'm coming down next yearand honestly I'd be happy just running the camera for you! You've had quite the successful season! |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Yeah I keep going back over and over looking at MMs man cave, that its bad a$$.
GR8, we can certainly make plans, you know "hopefully" we'll be travelin some next year so we will have to coordinate a few days, a week, or whatever around my way. Ive got an nice barn you can shack up in, or, a heated chicken coupe as well with fresh eggs for breakfast : ) We just aquired another 1,200 acres to hunt right next to our 2 adjoining properties yesterday, so we havewell over 3,000 adjoining acres to hunt bordered by roads and a golf course of all things in the middle of nowhere. The new property has much more hardwwods to hunt which is AWESOME!! We got lucky, the new property was for sale for the last 2 years. A hunting group had leased it to hunt while it was for sale the past few years. One of the gun hunters from the lease group threatened the owner ofour properties niece with a gun. He threatened to shoot her and the horse this past Sunday, no Sunday hunting allowed in MD that day, and the girls including my wifehave permission to ride that property on Sunday during hunting season. The police came, a big stink was made. Long story short, the owner of the properties we huntis in the process of buyingthe property today and tomorrow. The current owner agreed to throw the other guys off and we now have exclusive permission to hunt it. Talk about getting lucky!! 6 of us hunt it, with only 3 of us being bow hunters. ![]() |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
sweet deal diesel....all that land and soooo few hunters.....umm....need some help?:D;)
|
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Yeah TE, I have been one lucky hunter thats for sure. IM sure we could squeeze in a few out of town guestshere and there. We have been discussing getting a few more permanent hunters as the property is just too big but arent sure about how we are going to proceed. Right now we havea great group of guys, respectful, courteous, ethical and trustworthy. 1 bad apple could ruin the whole deal like it did for the guys on the property we just aquired. We also do alot of work on the property during the off season maintaining horse buildings, fences, feeding, wateringand caring for horses, keeping trails clear,etc...

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Holy Schmoly That's a pile of LAND! Yeah ya always gotta be careful there are always idiots who want to mess up the good opportunities.
If I had a nickle for every door I knocked on where the owner said. "we used to let hunters on the land and then............." Buckeye has turned me on to some opportunities and hopefully me and him can work together some in the off-season to secure some addditional land. Is it too early to be looking forward to next year..lol |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
3000acres! YOU ARE A GOD! I dont think I could sleep at night knowing I had that much property to myself and a few others. How do you do it?
Hey D look, this spring I'm headed to Salesberry, MD to spring gobbler hunt with a friend on his 300acre lease. Maybe I can swing by and do a morning hunt with ya. Since you have the space and all... No sense being greedy.:D |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Absolutely MM, the great Man CaveSlayer is always welcome. We have turkey out there atthe bigproperty but nothing like Salisbury, thats the mecca for turkey hunters in MD.Its spelled "Salisbury" FYI hehe, its on the Eastern Shore, about 3 hours from me, GREAT hunting there for monster bucks and gobblers, great waterfowl hunting also. They also have some sitka deer, baby elk as I call them. Would be fun to hook up and do some turkey hunting at our place though, I have some special secret weapon turkey camo for you too :DEastern Shoreis where my buddy shot that big 14pt I posted a picture of a few weeks ago.

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Man thats a good looking chunk of land Diesel. Im sure you wont have any problems finding a few other ethical hunters to help you maintain it :D.
|
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Its spelled "Salisbury" FYI hehe Anyway youre not kiddn there's big buck out there. He came home awhile back and showed me all the smashers from his game cam and I about flipped! Then he goes and shoots a whopper ten point durring bow season. Now Imade the trip downwith hima couple years back whenhe wasgetting interviewed at the FD andall I saw was city. So it blows my mind everytime he brings up how great the huntingis.I guess his lease is half swamp land and itshows on cam pics when sometimes the deer legs are mud halfway up. I'll look ya up whenthe time nears, can'twait to put on the "special secret weapon turkey camo". What is it, a mirrored body suit?:D |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Hehe, a mirrored turkey suit, that would be great, you wouldnt even need a gun. Soon as they run up to fight you just grab them.
|
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Thats where we hunt just east ofSalisbury. Zeb had an opportunity at agreatSitka Buck the first year he was there but did not know he could shoot it on his tag.
