RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
No luck in KY this weekend. Thought the little cool down we had would have them up and running but I was wrong. Did walk 1/8 miof creek on the property I hunted and found 8 dead from EHD. 7 doe and 1 nice 100" 2/1/2 year old 8 pointer. Hope it frost soon and kills those little gnats.

RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
Well it is decision time---- Your suggestions would be appreciated.
I have 2 hunting options for next monday for the Illinois opener. Which would you hunt next monday? 1. Public land open to all- Hunted it many times and really know the area well.Ton's of huge bucks and doe's. Only able to shoot doe for the month of October though. 2. Public land only open to limited number of hunters. Have never scouted land and have no information other then maps. But can hunt bucks. Heard from many people that this land is just filled with great bucks. |
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
if you're meat hunting or just want to shoot a doe, go to the area you know so well
if you're wanting more sport involving antlers, go to the second spot enjoy whichever you choose though - it aint about the antlers you know |
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
Well I am definetly not opposed to taking doe to fill the freezer. However, it would be nice to get my buck and add to our team score should I have the opportunity. If I hunt the property that I know I am unable to do that even if the shot presents itself until November 1st.
|
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
If you want the meat go for the one you know BUT I always like seeing new ground to increase my options-you have to scout sometime & the Buck is available if you see him Aas are the Does. I would go for the new spot. Good Luck.

RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
Someone remind me...do does score points in this contest, or just antlered bucks?
I'm in numerous contests on message boards and I can't remember which is which. |
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
This is a buck only contest. First buck you take is the one you post for this contest. Anything after that doesn't count.
|
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
just got back and saw three does but couldn't get a shot through the think brush. will be back with my resualts tonight
|
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
Good luck Hicks!!! I will be out all day on Monday. Unfortunately, where I will be hunting is doe only for October. But I still hope to fill the freezer!
|
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
Well, now looking back I wish I would have spent the day out out at the new hunting local. I did not see one deer while in the tree's yesterday. I did see a few on the way in and on the way out but nothing all day.
I will check out the new spot in a few weeks. I will be able to hunt bucks at that location since I couldn't at yesterday's location till Nov 1st. |
RE: 27- Official Team 27 thread
I shoot a Q2 (right now)
I prefer a recurve, but have stumbled and really need to regain something that I've lost |
RE: 27- Official Team 27 thread
Wow, hope that all my teammates are doing alright. Our thread has gotten oftly quiet lately. Everyone have a great weekend!
|
RE: 27- Official Team 27 thread
I took my Q2 last night, installed a whisker biscuit, shot 3-5 tune up shot today, 10-15 practice shots to get my 20-30 yard marks ( adjustable sight ) and shot a Slick Trick broadhead 3 times
After shooting a recurve/longbow for 3 years, compounds are soooooooooo accurate its hard to believe ! I had 5 shots in 3-4" at 43 yards at the end, no fliers. Kansas is less than 30 days away. Thats going to get our team a 150" buck, I cannot gaurantee it but its my goal |
RE: 27- Official Team 27 thread
Wife getting a little better-may get some hunting in late next week.
|
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
IL season is very hot. Been between 85-90 every hunt I have been on. Still seeing plenty of deer. Buddy shot a nice gobbler last night. I have had opportunity on 10-20 slick heads and several 2/1/2 year old bucks. Just waiting on the mature bucks to start moving a little earlier and the heat to go away.
|
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
I saw 2 does and a spike yesterday - could have killed any of them, but way hot here too and its a 3 point rule where I live. No cool air in the weatehr for 10 days - mid-October and its mid-80's ? wow ........ when it does cool, when the first cold snap rolls in, THAT is the day to hunt, the bucks will be tearing it up !
|
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
Wow, is it hot here- the suntan is coming along nicely, but the deer movement has been slow. I am just seeing does and fawns, I plan on putting one of the does in the freezer as soon as my oldest son can go with me on a hunt to our buddy stand.
Cold snap coming next week so hopefully the deer will be a little more cooperative. Chris |
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
ahunter55- Glad to hear that the wife is doing better. Don't worry about the hunting. That has to be so meaningless right now for you.
WE have the same heat wave here also. It isn't bothering me since I can't hunt for the next 2 weeks anyways. Bt the cold starting mid week will definetly help!! |
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
Almost happend last night. It was 94 degrees out and the deer were moving. I seen 14 bucks in a 1/2 hr. Seen a 160 inch 10 pointer. Was coming straight at me and turned at 60 yrds out. A guy in my club 300yrds from me shot at him and missed. He also missed another 1 several minutes later that was even bigger. I told him not to feel bad about it. I would show him pictures when I put them on the ground.
|
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
Ray- did you ask that guy if he gave any thought to hitting the range for awhile before trying to put the shot on some nice bucks? Even if he does hit him you know it is going to be a lousy shot.
|
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
I'm going to scout a new WMA tommorrow ........ I'm taking my .22 and hunting squirrels, taking a stand in case its got potential, I'll post pictures if I take any worth it
|
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
He shoots very well. The size of the deer had him shook up pretty bad. He was still trembling when I got to him. BUCK FEVER!
|
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
WOW im not haveing a very good season so far. All i have seen is a couple of does and have been out in the 90 degrees almost every day. I shot over a doe at 30 from a stand that i haven't hunted out of for a while. then I was still hunting on the ground when a nice doe walked up i got the draw on her. she was at 20 yards but there was a branch at about 10 but it was above the deer so i didn't think of it so i shot it hit the branch a deflected into the air right intoa swamp with no chance of finding my arrow. So that is thesum of my first weeks in the bow huntig woods.
|
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
cool front moveing in on our area. Good Luck to all. If things go good with my wife in Iowa City tomorrow I may get out in a week or so. Best time coming up anyway.
|
RE: 27-Official Team Bucks, Bows & Bros Thread
Starting to cool down here, shot a doe last night in the high winds. The Drenalin and Slick Tricks are officially broken in now, time to test them out on a big boy! Pics are in the bowhunting section.
