JFerges-I love Bowhunting Ws.. I probably never missed a year from 1958 through 1985 except the 5 years of Navy. Now about every 2-3 years. I am hoping to get there this year for 4-5 days. I Bowhunt the Northern part of the state most of the time. My 1st non resident Ws. archery tag was $10 & it was for Deer, Bear & all small game with a bow. My 1st Non-Resident Mule Deer & Elk tags in Coloradocost $25 over the counter.
Oh how Bowhunting has changed. Am I old????
This is a 60s Vilas County Ws. Buck.

Do we have any mathews shooters on our team. I still shoot the MQ1. I've been using it for years and it works great so I dont see any need for a change.
I used to shoot a Q2XL and at the beginning of the year I bought a Drenalin. I just got her all tuned in and she is shooting bullets again. My timing was off which dropped my poundage and knocked 20fps off. I set the timing back and got the speed and poundage back and everything is sweet again. I really should have put a string from Giblet on, which I will be doing after the season.

I am really liking the Slick Tricks, they fly really well. They seem to be a good replacement for the Muzzy's, but I am getting a little inflight noise with them. It sounds kinda like fffffffffffff, I am planning on laying the smack down ona doe first and if I get any bad response from her I will put the Muzzy's back on since they fly just as well.

Really like the avatar (thanks elk), it only took about 20 mins to get it installed too. I must remember to hit apply for it to work, doh.

Chris

OH ITS GETTING CLOSE! I will be in KY this afternoon and hunting in the morning. Got both the video cameras packed up and ready to go. Hopefully I can get some good video of a nice velvet buck and add some inches for team 27. My finger is getting itchy! I'll be back Monday night and post the results.

Go get em' Ray!!! I would love to see our team on the board this weekend!!

I just found out that Wisconsin might not work out for me so I might be limited to IL. And I just found out that my IL spot is doe only for October. That will suck if I can't hunt bucks till 11/1.

Good Luck on tagging a decent Buck.Keep us informed. I will try busting a few Does (antlerless only-special Bowhunt Sept. 15th). Our regular season opens Oct. 1st. If I add one, it should be a good one. Killen & grillen would be easy for me on just any Buck for the most part-I been holding out for any of 3 particular Bucks the past 3 years so I have been eating my Buck tag but have averaged passing at least 15 smaller Bucks. Several have been pretty decent-last yearI passed athin 10, decent 8 & a decent 9 thatthe farmer took shotgun season (9 point). Anyway, we will just have to show ALL the other LOSERs (teams) who is number "ONE".

Youngbuck41- Good luck with school this year. I think that everyone that visits HNI is feeling the same thing. Except for those lucky few that have already been up in stands with bow in hand!!!

I know I have been counting the days for awhile now.

Im back from Ky. No antlers in hand but I came very close on a 130-140 inch 10 pointer. He was 40 yrds and closing when a pack of yotes started running the deer in the field spooking him off. I did get some video of him and a nice doe that I smoked with the new bowtech. I also smoked two of those yotes and my buddy took out another 1. We hunted a cut corn field most of the time but should have been hunting a water hole. We put our camera on it and when we checked it had 35 pics on it in 2 days. It had several nice bucks on it and 1 would have been during shooting light. I seen a total of 32 deer over the 2 days from the stand. I'm thinking about heading back down and setting up on that water hole fairly soon. Pics are of the 2 biggest deer we got pics of.

Ray, if you dont mind me asking what type of trail cam did you set by the water hole? Is it by chance one of those new Stealth Cam I450's?

IL_ray_phillips 09-03-2007 07:19 PM

RE: 27- Official Team 27 thread

It is the V450 which is the same as the I450 except it has a LCD screen. Good camera with an excellent flash. Trigger is a little slow but in the right spot that doesnt really matter.

back from my caribou hunt - awesome country, world class trout fishing, wolves, northern lights, GREAT camp buddies ........ not a single fresh caribou track a one :(

one of those times the migration just aint there, and it wasn't, it was the only negative I think to the whole trip

whitetail in 3 weeks at home, 7 weeks until Kansas :)

I'm back from the mountains and it was a great hunt. I saw 11 bull elk and a muley with a white face kind of like a horse. Got the mule deer and two 6 point bulls on video plus I video taped this 5x5 muley the day before season and I killed him on the 6th.The score willbe entered as soon as I get a chance but I think he scores in the 150's before the .87 multiplier. We are going to be on the board.

GO TEAM 27 !!

I thought I better explainthat the exit holeis so far back. He was quartering away quit a bit but the shot was only 32 yards and I was confident that I could make a good one. He was hit dead center behind the shoulder on the other side and he only went about 40 yards.

I finnally got around to entering the score of my buck so we will see what it will be after the .86 deduction. I guess I don't quite understand why the deduction is so much. South Dakotas archery state record muleyis less than 190"so take 190 x .86 = 163.4 and our state record whitetail is alot higher than that. I know personally a guy that killed a 174" whitetail just 3 years ago. Rules are rules I guess. It scores before the x .86 deduction,157 6/8" or 159 7/8" depending on how they do the inside spread. Boone and Crockett says that the inside spread may equal but not exceed the longer antler. Rules say no deductions so it should go by 159 7/8".

I get 159 7/8 from your measurements on the score card thread, with the Mule Deer deduction it will score: 137 2/8

Randy, the difference came from an equation from the difference in the P&Y requirements for each species. It's actually dead on.
