Sounds great....i was skunked tonight for only the 2nd time this season. My cousin shot a nice buck last week on the other side of the county and he said it was scraping so the rut is heating up in my area.

RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread
I've been out a handful of times, scored on a nice doe yesterday morning in pouring down rain. Hope to get out more starting this week if the job allows it[>:].
Nice job boiler room!!!:) |
RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread
I didnt go out today, but my neighbor called me and tipped me off that every morning a huge buck has been using the funnel between his house and the house next door to travel to a clover feild thats on the other side of the road. I only have 100 yards or so of woods (widthe) but he gave me permission so me and my brother (hick442) set up the blind and hes going to film me tommorow morning. I started showing my neighbor trail cam pics and he said the deer it looks like most is the 13 point that i got a picture of last year, he also set it has a real bright coat still. Ill be hitting the woods at 5 so wish me luck!
|
RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread
Well i tried out the funnel and didnt like it but since it was a nice cold morning i decided to head to my uncles valley across the road and try some rattling. After my 2nd set on the horns i had 3 does come trotting by pretty fast followed by a nice 6 point that didnt have brow tines. I hit the grunt call and he started to cirlce around me and eventually got to 4 yards. I probably would have shot him if he had brows but since he didnt i let him go. He eventually smelled me and took off. This was the closest i ever got to a live deer in my life. After that the woods were pretty calm but i did find about a half dozen or so nice scrapes so ill get a camera out thier ASAP.

RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread
Hi fellas
Great job boiler room...nice buck. We were hunting this weekend and i saw awesome 10 and 8 points. That was thursday night. we decided to put up another ladder stand friday in the back of a 65 acre corn field that had just been picked. we got the stand up and I wanted to show Ron another spot back in the woods where the deer travel alot. I had to cross a sandy bottom creek that was dry and about 20 feet wide with a 3 foot high incline bank. i started down the bank and a vine caught the hooks on the top of my right boot. I took one giant hop/leap into the bottom of the creek bottom and landed on my left leg.......snap!! Broke in two places......what a mess. My husband called for help. Ambulance could not get in the field. He loaded everyone in the back of the pick up and they came to the back of the field to get me out. Took a soft gurney and 5 men to get me out of the woods. went to the dr. here in the city today and do not have to have surgery on it. thank heavens. I talked the EMT out of cutting my Predator camo off so there i was, laying in the bottom of the ditch peeling off boots and camo. I have to stay off of my leg for atleast 4 weeks. I probably won't be able to hunt out of a ladder stand, but I do have some ground blinds we can put up and I'm going to try that. Sorry guys, but I'm still hopeful for that 10 point. Diann |
RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread
Way to get us on the board boiler. Sorry to hear about your injury, I hope and pray that you will have a speedy and healthy recovery. Good thing your husband was around to get help for you. I think we take running around out in the woods for granted and it's very easy to make one bad step. I'm taking 7 out of the next 8 working days off, so hopefully I can score one for the team. The weather has finally started to feel like bow hunting weather. I went out this past Saturday and got drenched, but I did see deer. Good luck to the rest of the team. Go get some!
|
RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread
Well off to deer camp in the am. I have to sit with my oldest son this year (his first). But when he isnt around I will be hitting the bow stand pretty hard. The rut is definetly on!
|
RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread
I went out and checked trail cams today, got 2 new bucks on camera, another (#5) 8 point and a 10 point. I drew back on a 3 point as well but it was just for fun and i let him walk.
|
RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread
Well i went out this eavening after my Packers took care of the Chiefs and i saw my first mature buck of the season. He was about 150 yds away and i only saw him through my binocs for a few seconds but damn was he a nice deer. Prolly a tall 8 or 10, i only saw him from the front though. The weird thing is he doesnt look like any of the bucks ive got on my trail cam because his beams almost touch in the front. Ill be setting a blind up tommorow to hunt him.
|
RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread
Well I got a decent 10 point last fri. I will get the story and pics up asap
|
RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread
118" even |
RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread
Congrats on the buck again!! Looks like he was trying to grow a drop tine on the right side. How many hours of tree time did it take for you to get him ??
Tim |
RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread
Yes he should have walked 1 more year. I had a bit over 175 hrs this year, but I know where another couple are so we are going to work them over next week. I love hunting the big woods deer.

Teejay, congrats man!
|
RE: 34 - Official Team "Nocked Up" Thread
Geesh thats terrible news Mom! Take care of that leg.
Nice job Teejay! I have two more mornings to hunt a decent 8 pt. and a huge 10 pt. in one of my areas before firearms weekend[:o]. I may have to slip into the 10 pts. bedding area before daylight and hunt from the ground hoping he shows up. He mostly runs a route that affords no available trees for using a stand. |
RE: 34 - Official Team "Nocked Up" Thread
Hi guys
CONGRATULATIONS TJ !!!! Nice buck. About 6 days after I broke my leg, I talked Ron into setting up a ground blind for me at the edge of a corn field. He put a decoy out front for me...which I have never used before. I had a small doe come out about 80 yards away...on my right. I deceided to mess with her, so I hit my grunt call twice. Well, here comes bucky, all pissed off at the decoy, he came in at 17 yards on my right side....to witch the window was open less than 2 inches. He stood there for about 5-6 minutes and I had no prayer of getting the window open any further. Besides, I was using my walker as a bow rest. It was a real thrill for 5-6 minutes though. We set another blind up in a different field and I have got to go out 5 times now....no luck. I love bow hunting. Thankfully I have a wonderful loving husband that will do what ever it takes so that I will get to hunt. It's gun season right now here in Missouri. We came home for a few days and then we will be back at the farm. Ron is looking for a couple of 200 plus, that we have seen, with his rifle. Think I will stay in my ground blind with my Hoyt. I have until Jan. 15th so there is still hope. The leg is doing great so far....I have a new cast and as long as I stay off of it, I will not have to have surgery.....no problem there. Good luck to all of you guys and again Congratulations TJ...way to go. Diann |
RE: 34 - Official Team "Nocked Up" Thread

RE: 34 - Official Team "Nocked Up" Thread
Made it back. Good and bad luck. Bad luck was not closing the deal properly on a monster 8 pt. Sunday the 12th. Saw him 5 days later from another of my stands. He's doin' well as he was chasing a doe that evening.
I hunted that same stand the following morning, which would turn out to be my last morning of my 10 day hunt. That 8pt didn't show, but this 11 pt non-typical did. He wasn't nearly as big as the 8, but the junk on his left side helped me decide fairly quickly. He hit the base of my tree and worked up to a dim road above me, actually we were almost level at that time. My stand is set at 35 feet because of the steep angle of the hollow I was hunting. On that dim road was a scrape which I doctor'd up the day before. He hock pissed in the scrape and needed to take that one step forward to clear a sapling which blocked his vitals. He took the step and I took the shot. I'll post a second pic of him as it shows what I'm talking about regarding his left side. It's hard to determine if he has 2 main beams on his left side. Depending on what constitutes a "tine" or additional beam will decide. His g-1 is weird and the back of it may constitute a beam it is attached to the back of it. Making the second point (possibly a main beam) 17". The true main beam looks normal. I guess one could look at it as possibly 3 beams on his left side. Doubt it though, as I'm unclear as to what attributes additional beams scoring a non-typ. You guys look at it and give me your opinion. I'll be speaking with an official scorer later this week. I gross scored him at 141". He'll only net in the area of 115". I personally don't care about net as my signature eludes to. All in all a great season. Saw a ton of bucks, chasin' was happening, then it shut down as the does hit that lock down period, then things exploded again. Hope everyone is having as great of a season as I've had. A couple doe tags to go and that'll end it for me in '07. |
RE: 34 - Official Team "Nocked Up" Thread
Ok, here's the second pic showing a better angle of his rack.

RE: 34 - Official Team "Nocked Up" Thread
