good job TradTech. Now I can download yours and add it to mine. I couldn't get mine to resize properly.

Have some of my early season clothes in the washer right now washing with Sportwash.........then after drying they are going into an airtight bag, then into a large plastic rubbermaid tub. Cooler weather this weekend will allow me to finally hang a few stands. I don't hit it hard until later on in October.

I set two stands last weekend on a private piece that I hunt.

Hanging another this Sat on some new gov't land which Jackie's property joins and scouting out another private piece as well.

We've been busy the last month breaking new ground for a new hunting camp. Had it dozed out for a cabin and a 5th wheel camper. The cabin goes up this spring and the 5th wheel rolls in after water/electric/phone are trenched in. Hoping to have that done before the middle of Oct.

Then it's time to get serious. Taking 9 days starting the last week of Oct and then 9 more Nov 10th-19th.

It should be interesting this season.

Haven't made it out yet. Was hoping the bugs died off first.[:@] Maybe next week, but it's back to high 80's and 90's again after 70's the past weekend. I hate hunting in the heat. Thanks to whomever made the avatar.:)

Hi guys

Went to the farm this weekend and I spent a couple of days in a tree. A few does and a couple of spikes but nothing of size. We saw a nice 8 point....about 2 1/2 yrs old. If he can make it a couple of more years, he will be awesome.
Off to work tomorrow....counting the days until I go back up.
More later.

TeeJay's computer is down and he wants me to let you all know that he has a doe down from opening day and he is hunting a nice buck that he couldn't put the move on last night and scared while trying to adjust for a shot on it while hunting from the ground.

Huntin' camp is coming along kinda' slow, but that's ok. Still gonna' hunt the opener this Sat. Work on the camp on Friday and a little on Sat afternoon. Hope to have the electric and water run by next week. Jackie will be able to pull in his 5th wheel camper forthe end of Oct through the season.

Can't wait to get on stand!

Washed all the clothes last month. Hangin'em out tomorrow for a few days and back in the totes they go!

Vulcan is shooting awesome, broadheads hit with the field points, some stands are hung for early season, and I'm ready!

Good luck on everyone's opening day, mine is tomorrow. I'm hoping to take a nice doe for early tablefare, but if a big buck happens by and gives me a good shot, I hope I am up to the task.

RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread

I hunted on Saturday morning, Saturday night and Sunday morning. I saw probably 12 does the whole time. I drew back once on adoe that i jumped after i got out of my stand Saturday morning, but didnt get a clean shot. Im pretty much in meat mode right now.....lots of season left for hunting the big bucks. My buddy shot a nice 11 point about 4 miles from my house last night and they found it this morning. My cousin shot a button buck (thought it was a doe) on Saturday morning. My brother (Hick442) shot over the back of a doe on Sunday morning. Ive been seeing an unusual amount of turkeys this fall....but Medina County doesnt have a fall season. Ill be on the stand in an hour or two probably....theres a storm front hitting right now.

BTW i have an ethics question: I have a homemade stand thats in front of a cornpile that i have been getting pictures of lots of bucks at. And alot of the pictures are during the day. I was going to use the pile to get a doe this fall and to monitor the local buck herd. Well lately only bucks have been using the corn and my question is whether or not its ethical to shoot a buck over corn. I know its legal here in ohio and alot of people do it, but i just dont feel right about it. feedback would be great!

RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread

This is one of the bucks that have been hitting my cornpile hard. therestwo other8 points andtwo6 points that also have been feeding at the pile. Not to mention the weird non-typicle thats been lurking around all summer.

RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread

Well i went out today at around 6 because the rain started to fizzle out. After about 15 minutes on stand a big doe came out inot the feild in front of me. She stayed around 100-125 yards away and went into the woods after about 30 minutes. Right before she went into the woods, a little 3 point walked out from behind some standing corn and into my shooting lane at 15 yards. I let him pass and he walked through a tree line and into a CRP feild directly behind my stand. After he made it to the CRP feild, he was joined by a spike and 2 does, and they proceeded through the CRP into a bean feild about 75 yards from my stand. After about 20 minutes, 4 does and 3 bucks (a 6 point, and the 2 aforementioned bucks) came out of the bean feild and made there way across the CRP feild. The first 2 does that walked into my shooting lane were way to small (fawns w/o spots) and the third stepped out at 25 yards and i took the shot. It went right under its belly and between her legs. The 4 does took off across the feild and went into the woods. The 3 bucks were still in the CRP feild browsing and they remained there for about 25 minutes before they all left on the same trail. I think they all hit a scrape too but im not sure. Overall it was a great day on stand....even if i missed and didnt see any shooters.

RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread

Caleb - it isn't unethical to shoot over bait. Ethics have nothing to do with it. It's personal choice. If you feel ok with it then it's ok. You won't be bashed by me as I bear hunt over bait.

Here's a question. Lets say you're doe hunting at the corn. The new world record buck shows up and gives you a dumper shot. Would you shoot?

If it were me, I'd drop the string in a heartbeat!

You don't need permission, nor should you ever apologize for the animal you harvest. Remember that young man.

Good luck your next time on stand.

RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread

Well the thing is that i know its legal and i know that alot of people do it. I just dont know if i feel right about harvesting a deer over bait. Im going to stay away from this stand for awhile i think....ill keep the corn there though and ill keep the trail camera their until the rut picks up and the deer start putting scrapes down. Ive decided to use it as a last resort come December if i havnt killed a buck yet.

RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread

If you are legally hunting over bait, I certainly have no problem with it, it's entirely up to you. And if I was hunting over bait and a monster walked in I would take the shot in a second.

RE: 34 - Official Team 34 Thread

Well im not hunting the cornpile yet. Im hunting this feild that is distributed as follows:

Road:Beans:Tree Line:CRP:Tree Line:Corn:Clover:Pasture

They are laid out in that orderfrom east to west, withwoods all to the north of the feilds and another road to the south. My stand is hung in the tree line between the CRP and the corn. Between the corn and the edge of the woods is a lane that the deer travel down. So far ive seen8 does and 3 bucks while sitting in that stand this year (missed the one doe) only hunted 3 times)).

I just went and put a fresh battery and memory card in my camera andadded 50 more LBS of corn to the pile....so ill see what shows up over the next week.

I've been out one time to hang a stand and sit a corner between two standing corn fields and a woods. Got the stand hung but before I could pull the bow up two mature does came along and would not leave. Sit there for two hours while they milled around. Its too warm for me and its extremely dry....we need rain badly.

Hey team 34!! I bring you a message from your long lost team mate, TeeJay. Just got off the phone w/ him, his computer has evidently crashed and he has no internet access at all. He wanted ya'll to know that he has NOT deserted you, and has been hunting hard with not much luck. When he gets back online, he'll be back to harrass everyone, status quo.

Not much going on in southeast PA for me. I only went out the first day, it's been sweltering and bone dry here. The majority of leaves are still on the trees and it was difficult at best to see any distance. Relief is supposed to be on the way toward mid week with temperatures dropping to the mid 50's from the mid 80's that we've been experiencing this season. Come on cold weather!!!!

TradTech 10-08-2007 07:33 PM

RE: 34 - Official Team "Nocked Up" Thread

Saturday was sweltering. I hunted the a.m. and by noon it was 92.

I'm ready for some cool weather...heck, I'd take 70 for the mid day temp now. If you kill something late in the morning, you better have the grill on by the time you get back to camp! LOL

Did you guys think I left and wasn't coming back???? I've been working like crazy so i can take off and hunt.
i went out for 2 days last week....as long as it was cool, I had deer all over the place but as soon as the weather started to heat up.....every thing just stayed deep in the woods, well, except for the skeetos. Not so much fun.
I'm leaving for the farm tomorrow after work to hunt for the next 3 days. I'll check in when I get back.
How do I get our logo in my avatar?? I hava a Mac lap top, which is like speaking German in an English speaking world.
Talk to you soon guys.

And while hunting today i saw 5 does and 2 bucks, but nothing came in shooting range. They headed straight for the cut beans. One of the bucks was a real nice 6 that should have been an 8 but he didnt have any brow tines. Looked like either a 1.5 or 2.5 year old deer to me.....same body size as the spike he was with.

Congratulations Caleb.....good job.

I had a doe at 14 yards last night but the poor thing was so skinny....I let her pass.
She was a young one, but had no meat on her yet. Hip bones and ribs were sticking out so I thought maybe she should just go eat something. Plenty of food around for her right now.

I'm happy for you. Those does are good eating when they are a little chubby.
Going back to the farm in a couple of days I hope. Didn't see many bucks......lots of does with little ones.
Good luck to the rest of you guys and hang in there Caleb....you'll score a nice buck!

First the pic:

Now the story. I hung a new stand behind my pond in between 2 bean feilds. I gotall settled inat about 4:30.About an hour laterI saw 3 does get up from the bean feild and walk off into a bedding area thats next to the feild. At around 6:30, 2 does came out of the bedding area and into the bean feild, and started walking straight towards my tree. The first doe stopped about 5 yards from the base of my tree and started eating grass. I had drawn my bow about a minute before because she had been in range but had been facing directly towards me. After feeding for a few seconds she turned to herleft and i touched off the shot. I heard a smacking sound but couldnt tell if i hit her or not. She ran out into the feild about 100 yards and stopped. She stood thier for a minute or so and thenfell into some weeds where i couldnt see her. The other doe had run along side her and had stopped and was looking into the weeds where she fell. After a few minutes she ran off. A few minutes later the doe i shot at got up and ran a few steps and then fell again and stopped moving for good. This is my 3rd deer overall, my second bow deerand my first for the this season.
