RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
Headed out today, to the Red Tag Spot, figured id give it another try, diddnt see anything today, the temperature dropped here where i live in Pa, I met these two guys while i was hunting and we did some driving, nothing, they were bedded down in the middle of this corn feild id almost guarnetee it. Anyhow, i havent had much time to write and not complain, I did catch a cold today tho, im gonna try to skip school with my "illness" on monday and get out there and give it another shot, while i was down there i was scouting for good straight trees by the cornfeild, i found one tree that looks amazing for a climber to go up in, Im pretty excited and i dont know why maybe i'll stick the big one this year. On the way to the spot thismorning pre daylight maybe 515-6am i saw 9 deer on the way to the place, wich for this area is unheard of. I was supposted to go out spotting with my neighbor but my eyes feel like their on fire. I got my Rage Broadheads all shot in for the treestand im hunting out of this year, got my lumenocks all ready, the only problem is i only have 3 arrows left after last weekends 3d shoot where i robinhooded 2 (4 total) arrows, so im gonna have to wing it im thinking of getting the Beman Team Realtree Arrows, anyone have them and like them hadthem and hated them?? also Rob/pabower and i was talking about this sight, im gonna go pick one of them up for 3d shooting. Anyhow I havent seen any bucks while i was in the woods, however i found a dead buck today while hunting a scrappy 6 point but the point is that it was dead of ??natural?? causes? diddnt look shot but i diddnt want to get too close. Im rambling on and on now.... So i'll hope to hear from you guys soon.

RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
Well thats good to hear that your seeing more deer this year, and where there are does there is always gunna be a buck or two. I dont hunt corn fields but id imagine they provide good cover and good warmth for the deer so id imagine they would hide out there, now you just got to find where they are goin in and out of the field. Good to hear you are all set up and ready though, and i too am down to 3 arrows
went to buy some more yesterday and they are all out of my arrow so i might try a new brand too. And hard to say what the deer died of, way too many thing out there that a deer can die from other then an arrow or bullet But good luck hopefully you can find that buck thats gunna be puttin the run on all those does soon. But im heading out on Mon and Tues for some big whiteys again and im gunna admit im pretty excited, ive been goin after mulies lately but there is something bout whiteys that gets me that much more excited, i guess its cause they are alot smarter and more of a challenge, plus the fact that i seen lots of huge bucks when i was out last time ![]() |
RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
Good to hear you gonna be getting out tomarrow and tuesday. I got a freakin cold haha so i guess im benched for a few days here maybe i can get out of school:D:D:D:D:D:D hahaha anyhow, i went to my archery shop picked up an easy hanger and some Dead Down wind the jug with the mini sprayer for 13 bucks!!!!! Crazy cheap. Anyhow. I need to shoot my bow more, i havent shot in a week or more, my target is pretty much junk now from all the shooting ive been doing over the summer. BTW im shotting a Hoyt Lazertec set for 63lbs and Nuge Arrows, Blazers Whisker Biscut im pushing out 245 fps. i wish my bow was faster but... ohh well cant get everything you want 100 grain Rages too im gonna give them a shot this year see how they work i shot them they flew the same as my Feild Tips did so thats a good sign. anyhow idk if i mentioned it to you guys but i had a stand stolen so i went to the Home Security store (brinks) and paid 30 bucks for this cable lock and they have a display one that you can take a hack saw to it and i couldnt cut it i tried for maybe 2 or 3 mins and i couldnt even get the blade to bite into the dang thing, so i went to dicks and got one of them 30 dollar lock on deals and put a ladder up to it. Locked them both in. Anyhow im rambling again Danget. i need to quit that Im on the market for a new rest also.... something other than a Whisker Biscut so im not replacing my Blazers so frequently. Anyone got any Recomendations?? Im gonna get a new sight too a Viper sight, not sure wich model yet im gonna look into them after i get back from my Fishing Trip to NY. Im rambling.... again....

Well went out for whiteys today and only seen one lil 2x2 about 80yds out so my dad took it with the rifle since they opened up today. Didnt seeing any other deer within range or any other whitey bucks, seen a couple mulie bucks but i dont have a tag for them where i was.

RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
a Deer is a Deer, you cant eat the horns, besides sometimes its just fun to hear the gun go bang after 3 or 4 months of hard hunting, Congrats to your father for shooting a deer!! maybe your day will be soon, (i have faith it will be) Anyhow. saw 9 deer by my new stand Location.... AND MY STAND IS STILL THERE PRAISE THE LORD!! haha anyhow, Good luck if you go back out Lethal.
Ryan. |
RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
Yah im heading out tomorrow. The only reason i didnt take it is cause i can only shoot one whitey buck a year and the season goes till Nov 30 so i figure i will give it a bit longer and near the end of the year if a doe or a small buck walks out ill drop it. I just think its a lil early in the year to be takin a smaller deer. Like ive shot lots of does and cows but i still have yet to drop a buck or bull, i have had chances but i tend to pass on the smaller ones.
Thats good to hear that you are seein lots of deer around your new location. Any bucks or all does? |
RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
Its accully the same place (well 50 yards difference) different locks
and i have my own little suprise incase anyone tries to steal it, im not gonna get into that, anyhow, I havent seen any bucks at all and just happened to see the deer i did by accidently jumping them basically. My new spot is at a cross roads kinda, like an intersection of two deer trails. Anyhow, Im rambling again Hope you guys are seeing deer too, what about the rest of the team.... id like to hear out of everyone for a change.Ryan. (post #200 also yay for me) |
RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
So far i am off to a slow start, season opened on the 15th and i have only been out once. I was out sunday morn and didn't see any, the spot i hunted is more of a night spot and i hope to get out there at least one evening this week. Friday i head down to SE MN, and there are quite a few nice bucks down in that area. Hopefully i will get a shot at one. With all the deer down there,i should have a doe in the freezer by monday.
good luck to all |

RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
Hey guys, Ive been doing some scouting lately and still seeing only does. All except for one spike buck thatI kicked up on my way to ready the duck blind for this weekend. Im sure I'll have plenty of hunting time this year being that tomarrow is my last day of work until Dec. 10. I took voluntary layoff to keep myself safe from mandatory layoff and loose all my benefits. (and to get more hunting time:D) Ill keep in touch, season opener is Oct 1 and its looking like Im gonna be hunting alot more. Unless I get this other job thats a lot better than my current job, in which case Ill be able to hunt evenings but Ill be making some killer money for my 2 month layoff.

RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
Good luck on the new job!!!! And good luck to all who are hunting from team 12!!!!!!!:)But time is drawing near to Oct-1 and then I can finally hit the woods!! Come on it's killing me!!!! Walt

RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
I feel for ya Walt, I cant wait for next weekend to get here. I think this early doe season that they put in effect for some regions in PAis absurd. I just dont understand why you would want to start throwing your scent all over the woods and educating every buck out there. I think that I would have to stick myself with a broadhead if I was in my tree stand and the buck of a lifetime walked broadside at 20 yards and I wasnt allowed to shoot him. Good luck to all, and be safe
Mark |
RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
I don't know about absurd W.T.F. The PGC has a reason for this early season. Down here where I hunt in 5c-5d we have way to many Does. I will be in the woods tomorrow in a tree with a bow in my hand and I can't wait. I have plenty of spots to hunt and see no harm in trying to put some early meat in the box. I hope I do see a nice Buck tomorrow, nothing like seeing a Buck in the deer woods even if I can't shoot it. Your best chance down here to shoot a nice Buck is the first day or two of Archery. After that the big boys are in night mode and don't show until the girls start stinking. I can see your point that if you know a big Buck is a spot you know I would NOT hunt that spot til the real first day of Buck Bow on the 29th. If I don't see 10to20 Does tommorw I will be shocked!! Goodluck next week and Be Safe!!

RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
WTG TODD! Well boys im not able to get out till next weekend but im hoping to at least put a doe on the ground next weekend cause im goi for whiteys again, or at least see a buck worth goin after. But i did see a herd of elk 15mins from my house with a nice big bull so i might go after him on one of the days. I was talkin to a friend on mine that lives like 5 mins from me and he's been seeing a few big whiteys in his fields the past few weeks so i also might have to go out there and try for them. But either way next weekend im determined to put something on the ground.
But good luck to the rest of you guys and stikbow, dont worry only 10 days till you can get out there:) but then again it seems the closer you get to opening day the longer it takes lol. |
RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
Went out this morning and did not see a deer[:@]I Think W.T.F put the Hex on me:Dlol. On the bright side today, I did pickup a 20 acre horse farm to hunt. The lady who has the farm said that 5 of her horses got lymes from deer ticks last year. She also said that she had 25 Ginnie Hens this summer, now all she has is 1[:-]The Fox had a good summer. I asked herif she wanted me to shoot Foxes and she said no. She likes them!!!! Go figure .Today also is the first time I ever hunted with a recurve. It's alot lighter than a wheel bow. I can't wait to draw down on a deer with it and release a arrow, Maybe after work Monday!!! BE Safe

Anyhow, sept. 29 cant come fast enough danget!![:@] I shot yestirday i still got it. haha anyhow, i havent seen a single rub yet and this concerns me... ORIGINAL: cptleo1 Seems to me a month ago you were worried you wouldn't ONE deer. Sounds like things are looking up. How are things going with the girlfriend ? He's a 180 class 12 point Bonner, with stickers and kickers everywhere, walked in 20 yards downwind of my treestand i gave him my best doe noise stopping him dead in his tracks, While at full draw my heart pounded as i settled the pin on his muscular quartering away body... I let it fly and double lunged him, i listened carefully for him to pick his final resting place, my heart races as i hear him crashing, i cant remember walking down the ladder out of my treestand, i felt as though i was hovering through the woods as i walked up on my lifetime achievement, The feeling i got as i lifted his head up from among the leaves were he laid, so peacefully...... then my alarm clock went off and i realized ohh dang i overslept.... (Prolly one of the better dreams i have had latley) I hope you liked my dream as much as i did, maybe its a preminition, prolly not, i'll deff. take that buck anyday. :D I decided it was best if we diddnt go out anymore, we dont have many common Intrests (i.e. Hunting) Im on the market right now, maybe someday i'll find the one, I dont know though, from all the stories i hear, after you graduate Highschool, You can pretty much forget about having one night stands, hookups, and pretty much seeing girls you know all together and most of the ones you do meet are already in a relationship, For the mostpart Though im pumped for hunting season, i may not see anything but im gonna be trying my but off to get a deer. well you guys opinions are valued to me, shed some wisdom on me, maybe some first hand experience, Im only 17 i got a ton left to learn.. And i will take any suggestions, thoughs, feelings opinions. Thanks, Ryan. |

c'mon man, not fair to get us all excited like that.
I was out over the weekend with less activitiy than i had hoped. The temps were too high. A couple of does, none gave me the shot i was looking for, and a couple little baskets. Hopefully i will get out this week and get after the bucks i got on my trail cam. shoot straight |
RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
went out and checked the trail cams yesterday and to get a couple more stands hung, had 2 shooters on the cams, one really nice 9 and the other was a pretty decent 8. the 9 seems to be coming in right at last shooting light. I also had a pic of a coyote that I really hope to see again. I will try to get some pics posted later. good luck to all.

Man thatsa nice buck W.T.F. That would be a good one for the team. Saturday can't get here fast enough!!!! Hey MY7 the only girls you should be thinking about during hunting season are thegirls the Bucks will be sniffing soon! Your only 17 and there will plenty of girls that come and go. Just be smart and take it slow, when the one comes along you will know. I wish my son had the passion that you have towards hunting. The best advice I can give you about Bowhunting is the same as with the Girls!!!! TAKE IT SLOW,and when you think you are going slow your NOT!!! GO SLOWER!!!!! Slow is good in the deer woods;)Be safe!!!!

RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
Haha i hope your right is all i can say. Last night i went for a walk in the woods (COMPLETELY RANDOM) and i was walking and my cell phone rang, i answered it it was my friend Chris i was like hey lets do something, i was standing at the bottom of this little hill anyhow, i wasnt really talking loud or anything, but i was like yeah come over, i'll be at my house by the time you get there bye, hung up, i decided i wanted to check my foodplot out real bad, and i walked up the hill, i wasnt paying any ANY attention, anyhow, i get to the top of the ridge, I hear that blowing noise, and leaves crunching i look up theres about 4 deer running away, and 1 MONSTER Buck standing there at 25 yards like ....... Durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... anyhow he never ran, and i was standing there trying to get a good look at his horns, but i couldnt cause it was that time of darkness where i couldnt see great, and i could see to walk around, and i squatted down, stood up squatted down stood up it diddnt help any he was staning on the horizon anyhow he had about 6-7 inches on each side of his ears... im GUESSING a 12 point, he was huge from what i could see. I dont have a treestand hung anywhere but it only takes me about 10 mins from the time i get home to get there and be ready to climb a tree with my portable, im gona hunt there EVERYDAY after school:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D im pretty stoked, anyhow i was standing there staring him down, and my cell phone rings:([X(][&o][:'(][&:][>:][:o] to say the least i was a little bit dissapointed, it was my BEST friend chris, he just got jumped i was like i'll be right there, i just turned and ran back down the path i came in on and oddly enough, the buck ran the same way as i did, anyhow i got to my house and got myself together, waited chris came and we went and i put the beat down on 2 of the kids friends who jumped into the fight and he took the one that did the jumping, so it turned out being a very evenful day. Ohh and i got 3 more girls numbers today. :D
Im rambling now Good luck and Just post if you got anything to say about that :) Ryan. |
RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
chris came and we went and i put the beat down on 2 of the kids friends who jumped into the fight and he took the one that did the jumping, so it turned out being a very evenful day. Ohh and i got 3 more girls numbers today. I went out today to my regular spot for elk and moose, see the odd whitey buck and when i do its usually a monster but they are like ghosts in there. But anyways, i was driving in to my spot this morning and as im driving along i see a cow elk standing right on the side of the road so i pull up beside her and i grab for my camera, cause i cant hunt on the land but just i turn back around to look at the cow i catch something out of the corner of my eye on the other side of the road. It was a massive 5x5 bull elk standing not 10yds from my truck, i go to take a picture but he hops the fence and kinda trots in across the road right in front of me then all of a sudden i was in a stampede of elk, elk in front and behind the truck, must have been about 60 elk, i almost crapped my pants right there. So now they are all on the other side of the road lookin at me so i go to take a pic and it didnt work look at the screen "Change batteries" NOOOO picture of a life time and my camera dies. So they took off across the field and just as i start going again look behind and its the friendly Conservation Officer coming, i figured he had been watching that herd just waitin for some dumb hunters to try and take one. So i get to my hunting grounds and as im pullin in i look in the field of alfalfa and at the other end there was a herd of 30 elk, so i pull the truck down a lil hill and behind some trees and quickly gear up. Im geared up and im walking up this lil, i hear a lil grunt, i look up and HOLY CRAP a Bull moose standing 30yds from me staring me down, of course my bull tag i have isnt good in the certain area i was hunting. So i decided to see if he was in rut. I put my bow above my head and started swaying back and forth and he started too, as soon as he did it i yelled at him cause i didnt want to get him too wound up and charge me so he ran off but the silly bugger ran right towards the herd of elk and spooked them[&:] So i go back down to the truck and finishing driving in to where i usually park. I get out and look up in this field about and about 500yds away there is four whiteys all doe standing in the field feeding. So i grab my bow and start moving towards them, the wind is right i got lots of cover i got to within 80yds but they were on the other side of the field so there was no way of me gettin to them so i just decided to pass on them and not spook them. So i end up to where i wanted to go finally which is where i had shot my cow elk last year but by this time the wind was blowing soo hard, but im up ontop of this ridge and i notice something bedded down in the field where the deer were. I couldnt make out what exactally it was but i decided to head there and check it out. Turns out it was the 4 whiteys, but they were about 80yds in and i couldnt move any closer once again so i started calling them so i messed around with them for about and hour but they only came to within about 60yds and then they ran away. So it was an eventfull day, lots of game, no bucks unfortunately, but its always good to see lots of game. Field deer were in ![]() ![]() The trees to right is where i always see that big double drop tine buck every year ![]() Place i love to sit and watch over all day see lots of game there ![]() They were gettin close ![]() A scene im sure all of us are way to familiar with:( ![]() A calf and behind it is its mother and it has a wounded right leg and i noticed it hoping around earlier in the day but it decided to bed down, told the rancher about it and he went out to get it right away. ![]() |

ORIGINAL: stikbow26 Be a lover not a fighter!!! Trust me there is always someone bigger and bader!! It takes a bigger man to walk away!! Good luck on that big boy you seen!! Walt TONIGHT i went up to were i seen the monster at, and i got up into my summit Openshot, and got my Thermocell going and sat down for about an hour and a half maybe 2 hours, anyhow, it was getting dark and it was becoming hard to see and i stood up, stretched COUGHED several times, started to pack my stuff up, not a care in the world, i looked up and theres a doe, 30+/- yards feeding....... I NEVER KNEW SHE WAS THERE. Anyhow, i unzipped my bag, relit my thermocell, and sat down to where i could watch her got my binos out of my bag, i <3 stupid deer, And i was sitting there, it was pretty dark now, anyhow she popped her head up, locked it in place, and stared, i was like shes running away damnit i started to look around for what she was looking at and when i looked back she was eating again, and i pulled the binos up zoomed em out and there was a little scrap rack six point walking into my feild of view, i made the mistake of following him, Come on im 17 i practically popped wood when i saw the little scrapper walking around, then i was like wow My monster might show up while i can still see, (we are well beyond reasonable shooting time by now) and for whatever reason i looked behind me then i pulled my binos back up to watch the scrap 6 and OHH MY GOD haha i was like wow he grew a new set of antlers since i looked away, well it turned out being mr Big, and he was standing there behind the little guy, and i never got a CLEAR view of his rack, browtines, etc, it was too dang dark, anyhow, i couldnt decide what to do, its 745 now and DARK, i called my house and got ahold of my dad i spacifically said Dad "im by my food plot the one we built you know it??" "yes" "I need you to walk up so i dont spook these deer getting out of here" "k I'll be up"...... i could hear them walking around but no way could i see them..........820........... Still no dad its a 5 min. walk from my spot to my house, so i call my house, did he come back yet? no.... ok..... 9:00 still no dad...... The weird thing is he says he was whistling and yelling, wich at about 8:10 i believe spooked the deer, but i couldnt tell for sure so i diddnt make a move to get out of there or anything, so at about 9:00 i call and he returned to the house i was like ok im not waiting anymore, i got down out never spooked a deer, but i dont like the darkness so the walk home felt like it took forever, anyhow, if hes got the same points on both sides, and browtines hes atleast an 8 if not more, but in my book he IS a trophy, i dont know how im gonna hunt him though, he was grazing acorns, Imagine that, but hes been scraping everywhere, and i dont really know what i should do, the spot i was in he made a scrape right next to it im talking 5 yards or less, Inexperience is my biggest problem in the deer woods, This spot is right behind my house and i'll prolly only really hunt it durring the hours from when i get home from school till dark, and the weekends i'll be heading down to the bigger woods of Death Valley, where my aluminum ladder stand is, if i had a better computer i could give you guys the pictures of my stands and things to get some feedback, your opinions matter the most to me. Ohh one weird thing was the Bucks were chasing that doe pretty steadily nothing really intense?? i dont think but they were running her in a small circle for the most part, seemed odd to me i dont really know a lot about deer. Anyhow, god im really rambling on and on tonight, I hope my "doe" search goes as planned. I talked to a great looking doe today though. Anyhow, Do you guys have pictures of yourself?? Post em up if you do. sorry this is so long Ryan. |
RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
Well if i were you i would stick with what you are doin cause you are seeing him and if he has no reason to be spooked from the area then he isnt gunna leave and he should eventually give you a shot, the only thing that you can really do with this fellow is have patience im thinkin. But im also thinkin if he is hangin around the food plot he is eating from it but another thing you could do is maybe find out where he is entering the food plot and set up closer to his main travel route. But i also dont have the most experience when i comes to whiteys, so maybe some of the more experienced guys might have a few better pointers for yah.
Me out elk hunting this year.:D Just for the record i dont wear the glasses while hunting, i just got really bored:D ![]() |
RE: 12- Official Team 12 Thread
*laugh* the Aviators!!!:D;) Anyhow, Im sorrta really dumb cause i made the food plot in their bedding area, well there was a fire and to save money they took a dozer in and stopped the fire that way its about 60 yards long and about 6-7 yards wide, the stuff i planted, diddnt grow that great so im gonna have to just stick it out i guess. Anyhow its prolly not gonna be a good idea to hunt in their bedding area but i'll hunt right outside their bedroom door by golly. Anyhow.
I just hope the 4-wheelers dont spook him out and noone else finds out about him being in there.... Thanks for what help you did give me :) Ryan. |

My7, I think you should stay ouy of that area the rest of the week and let things settle down til saturday when you can hunt him. It won't take long for that big buck to know the hunt is on. The less preasure on him before the hunt the better. You know the area and your spot is set up so let it be. The next time you should go there is the first day of Buck Archery!!!!!!
