NC, I'm terribly sorry to hear about your loss. If you're in eastern PA and your buddy can't get you out let me know and I'll get you in a tree.

A little deer hunting will be good medicine for a heavy heart.

Okay guys, here are the pictures of my buck.

Alive....

Dead...

My fiance Tiffany and I with my buck

He ended up scoring 57 2/8"

I put a post about it in the bowhunting section but the short version is he came into a clearing while I was focused on a bunch of doe. He spent over 40 minutes to close the distance from 70 yards to 17 yards when he gave me a clean broadside shot. My platform of my stand was well over 20 feet up so it was a fairly steep angle. I held a little high because of this but my shot was still a little high and my arrow hit him in the spine. My 125 grain Rocket Strictnine 3-blade 2" cutting diameter mechanical broadhead punched clean through the spine and down into one lung. The deer dropped instantly and started kicking. I grabbed my quiver, pulled another arrow out, nocked it, drew back, and by this time the buck was done. When he fell, the arrow broke inside him and the broadhead took a cut out of his other lung and sliced his heart. It was one one of the fastest deaths I have seen to date with a bow, and the shortest recovery I am still tickled about him, he isn't one of the many bruisers I have seen, but he is a 2.5 year old with horrible genetics that I had a history with and he needed taken out of the herd.

Great pics Buck Magnet, congrats again!!

I just got back from a great weekend of hunting. I didn't shoot anything but had the opportunity on several 80-100in deer! All in all I saw 7 bucks in shooting range over the weekend!

I'm pumped to say the least. When I first saw the 100 +/- deer I thought I was going to shoot him, I mean he was pretty impressive because he was only an 8-point so he had some pretty good length to him. He was walking my way and I'm thinking "here we go!" but the closer he got the more I thought to hold off for a bigger buck. This was at my honey hole and I've seen some 140-160 class deer in the past there. The one I shot last year grossed in the low 140's and he wasn't the one I was aftereither, that dude was even bigger.

So as he passed by at about 15yds I drew...waited.....I just couldn't pull the trigger. Any other year and I would have, he was a good...good buck. But hey I'm in this contest to try to get some good scores so even if I end up eating my tags, it will still be worth it. I've killed plenty of deer over the years so this year I'm hunting for a big deer.....doesn't have to be huge but at least bewell over 100in, this guy was borderline.

Like I said, I saw lots of deer and quite a few bucks, I was surprised, I know there are a lot of deer there, every year there is a lot, but this was unreal....

It's still early and in this area I've seen bucks rutting well into late December and even early January. I saw a buck chasing a doeon the last day of hunting last year so I'm not in a hurry.

Of course this could all blow up in my face and I might not see another shooter buck the rest of the season but again it's a chance I'm willing to take.

I will keep you posted.
