Sorry for not posting in awhile guys, I have been pretty busy lately, I start a new job tomorrow, plus I just got the new Guitar Hero III game over the weekend and my buddies and I have been "shredding"

A big congrats Muck, he may not score well but he is still a gorgeous buck and one to be proud of!

Muckland, congrats on the buck and that 10 point is a beauty that's too bad.

Hoosier, good luck getting on one of those big boys.

Well guys I went out to a spot this weekend to set up some stands for late season. This is a spot that a buddy of mine has permission on and said he would take me to if I helped him get set up. So, we set him up on a nice funnel on the field edge. He has great cover and is really in a great spot. I found a tree to get up in for myself that is in a good spot too. There are several converging trails that looks like motorcycle paths in the woods. There is a ton of good sign and several trees the size of my thigh that were shredded up. The best sign was the number of deer we saw. We saw a big buck and a doe right as we pulled in, two little bucks chasing a doe out in the field, another big buck crossing the field and 4 other does all while we were stomping around sawing branches, talking, and generally not being stealthy. We will be out of that spot for at least 2 weeks before hunting it. We will both be hunting other spots for the gun opener, and will be back in there with our bows. Nobody else hunts it (very rare in PA) so we have a good shot at taking a nice buck out of there.

Good luck to everyone (except Hunsucker, he's got enough luck already).

Hey all,

I was able to connect on a decent 8-point Thursday afternoon. I went down to my families property in southern Illinois for one day of bow hunting and then the gun season. I didn't see too much Thursday morning but I wasn't in my stand for more than 15min in the afternoon when this fella came strolling by. There was absolutely no wind and the thermals had yet to start falling, I was pretty sure if he didn't see me I would have a chance to draw once he passed.

He was moving from my right to left at about 15 yards away, as soon as he got to my left I drew and sent one through the boiler room. It was a double lung and the Rage 2 blades just tore him up! He jumped and kicked at the hit, ran about 30 yards then started to walk another 10 and fell over at about 40 yards away!

He's not too thick but he has good length and a nice spread. I'm sure he'll go over 100in but not too much more. I'll put a tape to him today and get him posted.....I'm stoked!

Edit: I copied this to the Bowhunting Forum

Ya know Germ...He really is a decent buck. Don't get me wrong he's no slammer and I havekilled way bigger deer before but he is decent.

The problem is I'm such a fat arse that none of my deer look big with me in the photo! I know he's not too thick but my fat fingers make him look like he has pencils growing out of his head!

This dude was pretty heavy (didn't weigh him) he was tough to put into the back of my truck. He has a big head (look at the photos) and his spread was way outside of his ears. I had been passing on a few smaller deer over the past few weeks and I said that if I saw something over 100in I'd try to kill it. I know he is over 100in just not sure how much, I measured the inside spread and he's just about 16in and like I said he has long beams for this young a deer.

While I'm not a proponent of letting deer walk so they can get bigger for the next year I will say that after putting him down and taking a real good look at him, this dude would have been an aboslute bruiser in the years to come. He has all the right genetics, big body, great spread and great tine length for a 2.5 year old deer (my guess).

But.......I love to hunt and like I have stated before, I will take a shot at what strikes my fancy that given day. I'm very happy with this deer. I still have another tag and I will try to see if I can put an arrow into one of the bigger deer I've been seeing up here where I live. Only time will tell, but for now I'm way stoked!!!!
