Got back from Kentucky, an dnobuck...at least not a good one. I saw 8 does and 1 little funky buck. It was 94, 95 everyday, and extremely humid--not very good conditions, but the place has great potential. I also joined a 700 acre club there, compliments of TFOX. It has only 10 people on a private farm,so I will be headingback to Ky often!

BUMP! lol


3 days and a wake up till im buck hunting. well...if i get better. got a nasty ear infection/fever/nasty cold and the whole 9yds. got on antibiotics yesterday so hopefully tomarrow im starting to recover. today was terrible. im not the kinda guy that complains about much...but man was i miserable today.

so long as i dont get WORSE i will be in the stand as long as i can bear...if im 100% im planning an all day sit. dont wanna risk leaving and coming back in later...spot is too hot to ruin..first day hunting a spot is always the best. we will see. first legal buck that gives me a shot and im loosing an arrow. i thought i might be a little selective the first couple weeks..but i aint gunna risk it. first legal buck is going down. but its gotta have 4 on one side so it wont be all toooo shabby..cant risk it..my luck we will close on the house and i will be packing and moving and moving in and unpacking etc...hopefully the first one to gimme a shot is a nice one...alot of decint ones in the area i will be the first day...just gotta hope they head my direction...

ahhhh thanx hnt. im feelin better already today. figured i would. gunna chug me about a gallon of gatorade to rehydrate today....take another nap after class and i should be good to go. ear is feelin more itchy than painful...i kicked that infections butt..as well as the sinus infections! lol. not 100% yet...but i think i will be good by saturday...just hope i aint still hackin up my lungs...nothing worse than sittin on stand choking, trying to hold back a nasty cough

Glad to hear you are getting over teh bubonic plague! I am going back to Kentucky friday to find that elusive big daddy that didn't want to come out because he couldn't find his suntan oil last week! Taking myoldestson with me thi stime. Looking forward to it, and some cooler weather.

nothing worse than feeling like crap in the treestand......I am taking a young hunter out the first day. My buddy has a daughter and he is unable to take her so we will be in the blind bright and early sat morning. She is super excited......I will keep you guys posted. Glad you are feeling better.

mauser its good to hear your starting to feel better but I am sick as hell I caught that fever last night man its bad. My buddy shot a 15pt. last night and I all of the sudden just startedgetting all the symptomsof the Buck Fever. Oh its bad I'm leaving in a hour to go to the tree where Ihope tofind my remedy. :)

thanx guys...feelin pretty decint now...still a little "off" and congested...but atleast that fever and all that seems to be gone.

im pretty pumped for saturday. still dont know weather to try and sit all day or not. i dont know if i can do it...and if its worth lugging the gear in there. i dont know...really, i can sneak in and out of there REALLY easy...im only in the woods maybe 150-200yds. i dont know...i can sneak out around 11 and sneak back in around 2 and not feel like i missed much...exspecially since it will be 70 and there aint a creek around...but its not uncommon for them to come bed in the pines in the middle of the day...thats usually 10am or so though...i dont know...ive honestly never made an all day sit...an all day sit in 70 degrees will just be a tourture test i think. chances of me seeing one between 11 and 2 or 3 is slim to none id say...but you never know.

hoping the biggun steps out at first light and gives me a good shot then i have nothin to worry about:D theres a good number of legal bucks in the area...and my buddy seen a bruiser going into my spot one night spotting. we got corn up along the roads for the most part so we really cant see much by spotting...last year we knew what deer were living there, but so did 100 other guys. the spot is always good for atleast 1 or 2 good ones with a handful of smaller legal bucks. im pumped...i got the itch to fling some arrows right now. thats one thing i hate about being here at school...my bow stays at home...dont have anywhere to shoot here...but i keep shootin every weekend all year till the seasons over...never loose my touch...

I went back after the bears this weekend. I shot one on Sunday night. I will try to get a picture up tomorrow. I saw bear the 3 nights I was up there. I saw one coming in really early. He was only about 50 yards away and I was watching him come in and then I heard a shot and he turned around and walked away. I figured that is what scared him, but then I looked up and there was a doe standing about 50 yards in front of me (the bear was on my side). I think the deer actually scared the bear off. The deer walked over to where the bear was and milled around and then followed in the same path the bear took, but came back about 5 minutes later. The bear came back about 2 hours later. I actually had one bear on the bait and then he took off fast and another one came in 2 minutes later. I had on directly under my stand too....he smelled my pull up rope. It was an exciting weekend.

I used my bow and it was a slight quartering away shot (I wanted the shoulder open) and I got a complete pass through and he went 27 yards and died in under a minute.

I passed on a doe tonight.....I just got done cutting up the bear and didn't really feel like doing it again.

man im pumped....i dont think i slept last night. and woke up to MUCH colder temps and a crow hollering his head off....just like its fall;)

hopefully i can make somethin happen tomarrow. we will see what tomarrow brings. dont get me wrong...i love to hunt more than anyone i know. i log more hours than most people around here dream of...but i wouldnt mind it a bit, filling my buck tag bright and early tomarrow.

i cant wait to get home...i been itchin to fling some arrows all week. not that i NEED to...but i been itchin to..

good luck boys!!!

im pumped. thankfully, im still a little "off" and wore out so i will sleep like a log tonite...going to eat some dinner, take my DDW shower (i know i should do it in the morning....but ive found that doing it at night is better than not doing it...i will hit myself with DDW body foam before getting dressed and spray before i leave the truck..seems to work for me real well)

im pumped...my farmer buddy says he cant find a deer to save his life and its real wierd...that pumps me up even more. DUH that means 1 thing. they are in the woods hitting the acorns!! just so happens im surrounded by white oaks:D good thing im taking my climber and have a lock on in there. my lock on is in maples/pines...the white oaks are in the next saddle 100yds away. i should still get them from the lock on in the morning heading back to the beds though...or to the white oaks for breakfast...either way i should have them. planning to hunt till 11..then back on stand by 2.

cant wait...good luck guys...i need to get movin...im startin to crash already!

welp, incase ya'll missed my post, i had a shot this morning. 0840 here he comes from the thicket behind me to the right. i heard him, seen antler and stood up and got ready for the possible shot. seen 3 points on top immediatly. then caught a glimpse of browtines. solid 12-14" wide 8pt. nothin great...1.5 or 2.5..i couldnt tell...he looked 2.5 but when they are 12-14 wide, its hard to tell. im guessing 2.5 but i dont know...ALMOST passed him up. but thought about it in less than a second and know i gotta start somewhere...hes at 10yds...walks away/to the left..behind brush, i drew..MAYBE 15yds broadside, close leg forward...about to settle the pin when i noticed my arrow looked funny...

looked down and it wasnt on the string[:@] [:'(] :( when in my summit viper, i lay it across the front rail with the arrow nocked. the arrow falls onto the riser being i shoot a nap 1000. i never put it on the rest [:o] when i drew, the broadhead caught the riser and popped off the string. i never even noticed. he surely did. starred at me. thats how I noticed...i froze...he went back to walking left/away from me...i let down and got the arrow nocked again and on the rest. he gave me a picture perfect shot at probably 30. but i wont lie...i cant range from a treestand. im betting if i put my 30 on his heart i woulda smoked him...but i aint foolish enough to risk it. if i woulda had a range finder i might shot(most likely not he was semi alert)

just most the areas i hunt anything past 25 is generally brush or they will come closer anyways...i will get me a range finder sooner or later...

but that was my day...all i seen this evening was a gray fox.

rookie mistake....ive learned the way for me to keep myself calm is to take a breath, relax and focus on making the shot after i know its legal...well i knew he was legal quick...never thought of anything else but when to draw and where to settle that pin.

thank goodness i didnt touch that release..man was i close to touching it off too. i was just gettin ready to settle the pin and hook the release finger....that would been BADDDDD

im excited...onto legal buck already and its only the first day...

he might not be a monster..but id be proud of him for a first bowkill. i just know i gotta get deer under the belt before i start being more selective...heck i only ever killed 2 bucks with my rifle...(8 doe too)...and with the moving situation and school and all that, i dont have TIME to be too picky...

my buddy killed a little 7pt 300-400yds from me this morning at 9am. i got down at 10 and helped him drag and all that...i would never know his buck was legal. nice little buck...but man counting points on him would been tough. real dark horns too..

nite nite guys...im whooped...between the sinus and ear infection, and 0345 wake up, im BEAT. holy cow its only 915....i bet i sleep 12+hrs if noone wakes me..

ok just got back. Didnt see any shooters but with temps rising into the 90's during the day I was glad just to see what I did.Some does, a spike, and a really nice yearling. He was already outside his ears, had nice mass, and waspretty wide and very tall. He'll be one to look for in2-3 years for sure.:D

WE ARE ON THE BOARD!!!

I scored a nice little 8 pointer on Friday night. I shot him at 6:15, but didn't like the shot much. I got down and found my arrow and the blood trail. I followed it for 40 or so yards and then broke off of it and let him sit. I went back out and found him at 11:00 only 30-40 yards from where I broke off the trail. It was a pretty steep shot and quartering away. He took off fast and crashed into a couple trees. My friend that usually helps me drag them out was out of town, so I had a nice long drag...about 4/10 of a mile. I got him home and started skinning him. I ended up quarteing him and putting the quarters in the freezer. Cut him up on Saturday and now I have a freezer full of deer and bear.

I leave for San Diego in the morning...get back on Friday and then the following Wednesday I leave to chase some Colorado Elk.

man im getting haunted. hes pretty close to being the brother of the buck i seen saturday...pretty close to twins man...errrr i'll get him next time......but till then, its going to haunt me...



headed out tomarrow after class i believe. done at 11...going to have lunch..probably do some reading and an online quiz....DDW shower and headed out...not in a real rush since its gunna be pretty warm. but im gunna sit a creek bottom or hillside with oaks right near the bottom...not going into any of the better spots i found...just hoping something is thirsty...i know im gunna be sweatin like a pig...its a good mile back to there...forgot the digital camera at home[:@] :( [:'(] going to try to remember to pick up a disposable on the way...but im gunna kick myself when i score and dont have it....but will be happy if i DO score. we will see what happens.

urghhhh here we go already.

just got outta class. should be going to lunch, showering, and getting in the woods. but aint gunna happen today boys. i got 3 major quizes and 1 test between now and this time wed. none of which i REALLY knew about...well...knew of a couple but they snuck up on me [:'(]...all the dates were october...i cant believe its here already:eek: :D

im not too worried though....its gunna be a WARM one...i would rather sacrafice today for a better day....i gotta get ahead of this school work so it dont happen again though...next 2 days i will be burried in a book...no fun.


keep at it boys...might make it out wed after class...we will see...might not make if Friday either[:@] parents want me at the new house...its getting inspected. good news on that though, dads buddy is going to help with the whole moving process. we plan to do it ALL in ONE day...a SATURDAY...but ONE day none the less. we will see...

got lots of time..im not overly concerned...i always make and keep time to hunt as much as possible...AND it will keep me from overhunting my good spots...so i COULD turn out to be a GOOD thing...:) so have no fear....i got 6 weeks...

I went to Kentucky again, and did a lot of scouting. I put my oldest son in my stand that I found last week,and he saw the big boy I knew was there. It was a 10, 150ish---but he missed the shot! That's okay-- I know he's still there! I found another very good spot as well. I am going back the 11th thru the 14th, hopefully to close the deal. I am going to go back here in Georgia this weekend, and see if the poaching problem has been resolved. It is time for the bucks to really get active soon.We need some cooler weather and rain--serious drought here. Total watering ban, and I am in the landscape business--so pray for rain.

man...watering ban and in the landscape business...thats bad news...hoping you get rain. i worked in the landscaping business all summer...if i wasnt watering something, someone else was! lol. the trees and plants at the farm even needed watered once a week or so plus the sprinkler system daily because it was so dry for a while. up here, our fall is our busiest time for the company i worked for. we do mainly lawn installation and hyrdoseeding though...do a fair bit of landscaping as well..but lawns are our big thing..fall they get slammmmed.


feels good to have someone say im closing in already:) germ and rob and gmmat and the crew was my team last year...i didnt hear that for a couple weeks in;) first year as a bowhunter last year...i got winded every hunt my first week lol.

going to hunt that area SMART...i know i got a GOOD chance at a buck in there if i play my cards right. i cant decide how soon to go back. could hunt it saturday or monday or tuesday....i really dont wanna hunt it till it cools back off anyways. i just wanna hit it when they should be moving and get in there and get him dead.

figure i can burn a couple days hunting random spots at home till i get the colder temps and give it time to settle down...

didnt spook him...but he knew something was fishy...

weather looks great for next monday and tuesday thus far. major cold front looks to be coming from what they say, and what i can see on the charts in meterology class. IF it does come, im hopefully i can add some inches to our board..."fall breal" from school is monday and tuesday...thankfully. we shall see whats in store for me....

im really hoping the buck i seen, or another shooter gives me a shot. i can see the buck i seen beein 70+...i really dont know. at first he looked small...but at 30yds or so he looked bigger...proably 12-14" 8pt...just not quite to the ears so hes under 16" ....we will find out when i get him dead! i just gotta find a way to keep my spot...i think im going to PARK at my spot EARLY...just incase...and hike down the road a 1/3 mile and hunt the edge of a corn field saturday morning and evening...just to hunt and "reserve" my honey hole with my truck being there but me being 1/2 mile away, across the road....im a sneaky guy:D i just dont wanna hunt it saturday with it being 85...

we will see what the weather brings....

hoping to head out here at school tomarrow....we will see. as of right now i believe i can head out...

mauser wants his first bow kill and a buck to boot BAD...so bad he can FEEL the antlers in his hands....i just know i gotta hunt him SMART.

this evening im just going out to an oak ridge/point/hillside. going to hunt REAL high on the ridge. woods are clear for 300yds or so along the hillside and point and 40-80yds down till it gets thick and nasty...i want to hunt so i can see ALL of the hillside with the binocs...the area held the most sign...but i never hunted there...theres alot of possible bedding areas...i just want to "observe" and see where they are coming from etc....

dont plan on shootin tonight....i really am not setting up to shoot...i just wanna figure them out and SEE deer. if i see deer i will be happy...then next time i can slip in there and give em the shaft!!
